A while back I was directed to an AQ character guide detailing the best equipment for each level, as well as general strategy. Apparently the thread was deleted, as I cannot find the post. Can anybody point me towards something similar? This might not go here, but I didn't know where else to put it, so if anybody could shed some light on the matter, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Beginner's Guide for Super Character Development should be the guide you are looking for. For character guides on individual builds, try the Training Academy guides ( Hybrid, Mage, Warrior and Ranger).

I think it got split into a few different Training Academy guides depending on the type of character. Here's the links:

Ultimate Hybrid Guide
Ultimate Mage Guide
Ultimate Warrior Guide
Ultimate Ranger Guide

It's got equipment and stat progression as you level up and some strategy as well.
