megakyle777 -> Allow SOME LP and Poetry and stuff in war threads. (10/25/2010 11:13:38)

Okay, I have just been taking part in the recent DF War. Naturaly, we got into the whole making Poetry thing for it, and it was fun. Untill we got told this:

quote:

@Dragonman66: sorry, poetry falls in line with everything else. It too belongs in Legends and Lore.

Now, personaly, I don't see the problem with this. This kind of thing has always been what makes war threads in DF at least so much fun. The poetry and stories keep people motivated, thus allowing us to win the war when things look bleak. Noone seemed to have a problem with it before, and even a few of the AK's have joined in in the past. It creates a sense of fun and community. Plus, it allows those with creative aspects who have noting to do with L And L for any reason to florish and may lead them there in time.

So my suggestion is simple; Allow it, to an extent. By all means, tell people to lessen off it every second post turns into an LP. But if not, just let it roam.

I agree. It's nearly DF transitional. In fact DF war is much better than every other games just because of this. Maybe some people can't understand it (there are 2 cases, mine is I truly don't know much English...other is...) but in fact that helped many people and all those "people" supported the game, maybe, just because of those RL and Poetry.

In fact, RL and poetry never run off topic (topic is about War, ya, we write about War, what else? Red bull? Oh drinking is War supply too. STILL ON TOPIC[:@])

I'm never good at remember name, but this is the list:

4 staffs of DF team joined the games A LOT
at least 5 AK do it
20 member do it when I pass there to see, WE SUPPORT THE GAME
5 people get on DN because staff like IT

OK WHAT ELSE? BRING IT ON

I said this in the thread before they asked us to drop the topic, if we're not allowed to do this in the next war's threads, I might strike the next DF war. For me, the war-thread is the only thing that keeps me up hour after hour beating waves, and a very important part of the thread is the poems, and the RL stuff, like: "I'm going to take a break, see ya guys in 30 min, and good luck!". I do realise their point about the RP-ing, which technically isn't part of this thread's topic, but I'll mention it anyway. But some of the "Soldier" jokes there has been in these threads is some of the funniest I've seen, and I've seen an AK do one too.

What I have to say on this matter is that I think, honestly, that the minimal role playing, poetry, and speech making that had been so much a part of war threads is what made them so vibrant. I can understand the desire to keep it out of most threads, it certainly does NOT have a place in most of the discussions that take place in DFGD. That being said, the war thread has always been the place where everyone is urging everyone on. The manic frenzy of encouragement has always been quite fun, and brings a bit of vibrant life to the thread which actually gives the war a better sense of urgency. I agree that a lot of the random thoughts and comments that appear on the threads should be stopped, and I also freely admit that I am occasionally guilty of this too. Excessive storytelling such as went on yesterday, I concur, did not belong in the war thread. It was obvious that things would not end well with that. Storytelling such as that does belong in L&L. However, the occasional rp post, such as poetry and speech making, added a vibrancy to the thread and added a great deal of entertainment to the war. I suppose it could be looked at like this; DF is an on line RPG. The mentality of the person who would be attracted to DF, or indeed ANY AE game, is that self same mentality... that of the Role Playing Gamer. Indeed, some of the minor RPing that goes on is just normal behavior for many gamers.
By all means, if things get out of hand, a warning from the AKs is a good idea. When warnings have been posted in previous threads, they have been heeded. I realize the AKs have better things to do than just monitor the threads constantly, but at the same time, I also realize that gamers are gamers. It's just a part of their basic personality. I and many other gamers ARE gamers because we could not imagine not having gaming to escape into.

Thank you for seeing my thoughts, and I hope you at least consider them. The thread being the way it has been for the last several wars is what made the war time threads so much fun.

I don't know if this is something any of you would be interested in...

But if you are really this interested in Wartime poetry and such, we can always arrange to have a thread in L&L where you can post and then link to in the War Thread. As the Head of L&L, I would like to be as accommodating as possible to those of you who has such inspiration hit at this time. It can produce some amazing results.

Alright, here's the deal guys. I revoked the right as it got out of hand. DFGD always has had the policy of letting SOME rping and poetry. However, it should never get out of hand like it did yesterday. That was ridiculous. So, as of now, you can post again as long as it is kept to a minimum like it used to be. Is that understood? I like how DFGD's war threads are wacky, crazy, and a full community. However, they should never have long stories in them or always be rping. I'll go post in the thread and let the DFGD AKs know. Do not abuse this privilege.
