barneypwnsu -> EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 1:49:55)

For those of you who've been here a while, you should know that before, we used to have to really think about our builds and calculate and get specific weapons and armors to make it all perfect, ect.

Do you think if we put as much time in our builds as we did before it would be worth it? Would the very cliché builds just ruin our time spent on thinking?

The reason I believe it's like the Rubix Cube of PvP is because it really is like one. It's hard to get it if you don't know how and you have to think a lot for nothing. But once you learn how, you can do it easily and without even looking if you had a good enough memory.

I believe everyone decent makes sure there stat points add up perfectly toward there progression.

SugahBaby -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 2:35:29)

Not until you get that one guy with max Surgical Strike and they only have like 50 energy and im like holy frik whats up with your build you cant even use anything you dont meet the requirements for bunker or heal and surgical you dont have enough energy.

Its like did you even think this build through lol.

Master Volcon -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 2:44:45)

i think that is game shouldn't rely on weapons and stuff. It shouldnt be a rubix cube at all. It SHOULD be something that all people can come to and have fun playing. You dont need all types of fancy weapons to be good (proven by Barney) you just to be creative and have time/patience.

edwardvulture -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 2:49:26)

Are you saying 5 bonus ruined everything? I agree.

Vick Vega -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 9:38:18)

The only thing I don’t like about things like (Nerfing classes, Agility, Focus) that are intended to keep balance is that they can potentially make this game feel like a glorified game of rock paper, scissors. I would rather see the logic reversed. If a class is underpowered, buff it. But, people will complain either way. I don't envy the ED team in that aspect of this work. You can never make everyone satisfied and that is a tough position. The reality of what’s going on in the big picture doesn’t always match how an individual feels about it. For example, I could say “STR mercs always beat me, they are over powered.” But, if I were to change my build to specifically win against them I would be the guy saying “5 focus support mercs beat me, they are overpowered.” Reality is that they are probably looking at spreadsheets of data with overall wins by class and type and every other combination you could think of. They do a pretty dam good job despite of all the flack they get. Do I hate that my tech mage cant heal and live to fight another day like it used to? Yes. Has it been fun trying out other builds and classes until my favored class evolves again? YES! Battle on!

Except for 5 Focus builds (the predominant build in the game?), which can get away with having imperfect stats, abyssmal Strength, and low mana.

barneypwnsu -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 18:09:46)

@above, that's kind of what I was getting to. For 5 focus they don't need to think at all for stats or the skill tree and it will work ubber well. Would thinking just lead to another expected loss from builds like this?

@Vick Vega, I agree in a way because if a class is majorly underpowered they should just keep things the way they intended it to be and buff the other classes so that they can stand a chance with the "over powered" class. And the point of this thread was exactly what your talking about :D If you were to think about a build for an all-round strategy, lose often to a specific build then re-trained to make sure that mistake doesn't happen again, would there always be one type of build that can beat you? Will the 5 thoughtless builds end up getting the best of you.. All. The. Time. ? Is it even worth thinking over a build anymore?

PhoenixGladiator -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 18:39:21)

Have you ever played a PVP game where it's not like that though? I haven't.

The good thing about Epic Duel though is that a great player using an under-powered class can, for the most part, defeat a skill copying player who doesn't understand the game.

I do like the rubix cube analogy though. I love playing around and testing new builds. I'm using a tech build right now that I've never seen anyone else use before. I lose maybe 1 in 50 games with it. And it's unique [:D]

barneypwnsu -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 18:51:53)

@above; I have seen other PvPs that weren't like that, actually.

For example; I'd start out not really knowing (like epicduel) then understand it 'fully' but, it's just as hard as before because everyone else understands it fully, you know what I mean? for epicduel, once you get to a high level you don't need to understand it fully to be good, you just need to have the basic knoledge to copy someones 5 focus build and read the 2 lines that explains their strategy and BAM. You can defeat almost everyone.

That's true and you forgot that under-powered classes can also beat the OP classes that understand the game if they are good enough :P

Thanks :D and me too, it's what I'm most known for, I believe. I retrain atleast 5 times a day. And nice, I try to use builds no one has seen before as a testing phaze in the extremes (extreme str, dex, ect) then molding them to be even better and integrate focus and what-not. But, the bad thing about doing this is that a lot of people copy my builds and if I ever stumble upon something really good, people will use it xD

The good thing though is that no one will ever know how to truly use your build as good as you. I find it funny when I run into people who use builds that I made, and then watching as they struggle to use it correctly. People don't understand that the order in which you use skills plays a HUGE role in battles. You really need to take energy and cooldowns into consideration.

goldslayer1 -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/10/2011 20:26:15)

i have to agree with this. now its more about 5 focus builds and alot of real life luck (insane blocks, crit, and deflects. which i dont have)
back in beta i had no idea what stat progression was, however i did some studying on ED, and stuff and how damage works against certain defense and stuff, and now that i can think of a good build, it isn't effective because now its basicaly about luck.

this is why i think they should remove ingame profiles so that nobody can see our builds

goldslayer1: or maybe only show it to your partner in 2v2?

Quote removed, please do not quote the person directly above you. ~Illuminator

barneypwnsu -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/11/2011 23:34:02)

@goldslayer1; Exactly! It's all. About. Luck! If I were to use my 2-day-thought-out-support-build back when there was only like 2 support builds, it would be completely demolished by the basic support builds of today because it's not completely spammed...

PRIMAL ASSASSIN -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/12/2011 11:08:22)

every build and class has a weakness and every build and class has it's power. nothing is perfect and u just have to ecept that.

ND Mallet -> RE: EpicDuel; The Rubix Cube of PvP? (2/12/2011 11:45:54)

Be happy people aren't putting huge amounts of effort into their builds. You can be overpowered by just dumping points into strength or support. Adding strategy to it and covering weaknesses will make things worse then they already are. It is fun dumping huge numbers of points into one stat and winning with it but using your brain and covering the weaknesses is even more fun since you get the "Oh Crap!" reaction from your opponents.
