I'm going to be completely neutral in this first post. My question to you is this: How is EpicDuel's evolution similar to, or different from evolution in real life? Are Weapon designs changing? Are Releases getting better... or worse? Are different Builds and playing styles continuing to evolve? What do YOU think?

Oh, and just in case you're not too familiar with the term "evolution": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

edwardvulture -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 0:51:59)

OMG I'M christian. Nah JK. So evolution... Yes I guess focus is something humans had to develop to be the kings of the world. But agility stayed with the monkeys.

tigura -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 0:52:51)

I think the releases are getting better. And from a personal point of view, my builds and playing styles are evolving for the better (although some do fail; 140 hp and high support just does not work for me).

Lectrix -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 1:06:35)

Well, I figured that if the schools are teaching us about evolution, then it's ok for me to mention it here.

In my opinion, EpicDuel is, without a doubt, evolving... slowly, but surely. The artwork is changing (for the better), and Releases are... kinda hard to tell. I think EpicDuel's updates are becoming more frequent, which, in a way, is bad. One false move, and Balance is completely ruined (although ED isn't what I would call "Balance", ATM). The more often ED has an update, the greater the chance that that one false move could happen.

As for Builds and playing styles... those are DEFINITELY evolving. It reminds me of Natural Selection. The weaker Builds "die off", and we're left with the strongest, most powerful Builds. A Player who's creative with their Build can be compared to a Mutation, because it gives Players a new way of thinking, and opens the doors to newer (and possibly stronger) Builds.

King FrostLich -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 1:19:03)

We just need to remove agility and our evolution will be faster.

Goony -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 1:55:05)

Yah, it's evolved... There are some old videos on youtube that shows the late Alpha stage! Huge improvements in lag and interface, graphically better (some of these have just slowly become part of the game) and the best is yet to come... o.O

helloguy -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 16:49:32)

we need to get rid of enhancements

Arcanis -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 17:02:48)

I have over 10 weapons enhanced. Do you plan to refund me varium spent on those?

helloguy -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 17:09:04)

Add up all the varium you spent on your enhancements and tell me thats not allot of money.Enhancements killed this game.the value of varium went down.its like epicduels own depression.

Arcanis -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 17:27:06)

Money is not the issue. Removing enhancements would just be plain cheating on customers.
Imagine if F2P farmed like crazy to get amount needed to max upgrade his/hers weapon, and then it gets removed. That option,no matter how expensive it is,is one of the rare things they implemented to try to help F2P.

helloguy -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 17:29:45)

i forgot to mention that of course you'll get your "varium" back. its not going to happen, but i want ppl to know that enhancements is part of why this game became corrupted.

Arcanis -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 17:40:32)

Not as much corrupted as it is starting to backfire.
Basically its a lose-lose situation. Constant demand for regular updates has brought to this, gaming population has become spoiled.
They should take time and make gameplay improvements in general(2v1 anyone?,for example),and not just focusing on releasing new make-up weapons each week.

Larcell -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 17:41:51)

From Alpha to Gamma, yes there is great change. Titan and Nightwraith are always coming with new ideas to make the game better.

edwardvulture -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 19:26:06)

I definitely agree enhancements was a step back for our brains, it leaves lots of Oped biilds just perfect.

IsaiahtheMage -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 19:30:46)

@Helloguy get rid of enhancements? No.i have some and i love them that will make EVERYONE get a HUGE NERF no one wants to be weaker.Enhancements are in no way why this game is "Chaoruppted" its because of stat requires on skills and passives thats why.Why would you wanna get weaker?I think ALL WEAPONS even robots and bikes should all have enhancememnt slots and the credit cost be 500 so everyone could enhance all there stuff and become beast.[:)]

Lectrix -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 19:42:15)

@Above: Interesting... that actually sounds like a good diea. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em... right?

IsaiahtheMage -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 19:47:36)

@Above Yep.That way we all be beast. And when we fight it will actually take REAL skill to see who wins excluding the luck of course. And make retraining cost 0 credits it should cost credits to make a new build.

Lectrix -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 19:51:11)

Of course, people who paid Varium for Enhancements would complain... that's the main reason why there isn't a Varium sellback feature.

eragonshadeslayer67 -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 20:23:03)

ED is not evolving at all, their trying to (I guess) but not hard enough

enhancements r not "evolving" they're practically a Ponzi scheme

Let's see ......... in alpha: NPCs, 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2
NOW: NPCs, 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, war kills(wow utter fail here why not jsut buy an achievement with $70), enhancements/robos ("Ponzi schemes", nothing more)

Algorithm -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 21:27:48)

@Lectrix:Only the admins can say that with enthusiasm.

Epic Pwnser -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 21:50:35)

This is what I think...
From a coherent 15 year old.

Epicduel is evolving, in the past few months, way too slowly...
There are updates only once about every 2 weeks.

The lvl cap hasn't risen, there is no new battle mode yet, there is not a variety of splendid weapons to choose from in the low lvls, everything is way too expensive for non-variums.... and more etc. But then there is the money sucking options that ED implemented to obtain more profits.

In a positive outlook, yes, its great because we are giving the ED developers more money to make the game better, to pay for our servers we play on, to hire workers to come and make ED even better.

Oh....but negatively, this has slowed the pace of ED's growth even further. Options that the developers were going to implement, that they promised us last year, from the beginning of 2010 even, like new battle modes, character pages, etc......... have been painfully slow.

Varium enhancements, the war cannons, and all the nerfs came because it was what we protested about in the forums, what ED thinks is the "best?" for ED.
Hmm.. I hope this game grows a little bit more faster in the next few months because I really like the model....

Soooo comment away?

Practel -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 22:01:33)

Wow this made me think... a lot... and if you know me, that is somewhat unusual.

Well where is it to start? I mean I remember the day I joined EpicDuel. It was December 12th 2010. That day I met my first mod. His name was J6. At the time I didn't know what green names where, and spent almost 3 weeks googling how to make your name green in EpicDuel. Then I found out it was mod only, that was a waste. Haha but anyways, there are very distinct details that I would like back, and changed, but not one I can complain about.

The feature when someone joined a 1v1 match or a 2v2 match it would project a green or red banner saying "A player is waiting for another player in 1v1". I would love to have that back. Anyday.

As features in EpicDuel progressed, I loved the game, but issues came about making it un-enjoyable some times. Part of the reason why I dont forum to often now is because of all the stupid flames. I mean honestly, the game is a game, I love it, you may love it, but dont go over your head about it. Enjoy it. Play it. Live it.

The evolution has come a long way, from major changes since beta, to expansion in gamma. The game is my favorite game on the internet, and I will not quit. Titan, Nightwraith, and Charfade are a well running team, who try to help as best as they can, but not everyone is entitled to helping everything. In terms of ingame evolution. I think the periods of time between the mage heal looping, the merc supporters, and the bounty shadow artists has been the most evolution to the game. Everything else has been steady and secure.

Atomic garden -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/15/2011 22:33:22)

Epic duel has come a long way and still has more to come... however its been about a 11 days since our last update. And Hopefully some st. Patricks day weapons!

But that's beside the point.

Ive been here since beta and have poured almost (if not already) over a hundred dollars into this game and so far i like it. But as stated before with the natural selection thing... There are some serious dominance issue.

However i still do have hope[:)]

FearRipper -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/18/2011 22:29:35)

If you were here in Alpha you would know that varium did not exist. And that we had once a month updates, but they were good. Tons of weps and new features.

Now we are paying them more to make lesser quality updates... What happened?

Its bad now but I hope it gets better.

ND Mallet -> RE: The Evolution of EpicDuel (2/18/2011 22:44:27)

@Fear The updates may come larger every month but every week with smaller updates is much better. The current player base whines about waiting 2 weeks for an update. There would be no players left if it went back to updating monthly. And balance was terrible in Alpha. Mercs could tank like crazy and had no rage or crits. Mages could one shot you with 150 energy and Supercharge and BH's got a damage boost for each of their strikes.
