Every artist has a different idea of what makes a piece of art great, and what really doesn't mean as much. What's your opinion on the most important part of a piece of art?
For instance, I always take the "first glance" of an image to be a big part of its success. The first impression of a piece of art means a lot, to me at least, because it always leaves a mark and affects how someone views the art every time afterward. If the image doesn't seem to fit together well, it almost never will even if a closer look reveals that perhaps it does work well as a whole; if it gives an appearance of being dark and macabre at first glance, even if the picture is a tea party where people are eating strawberry shortcake, there will always be that 'dark' tint to it. It all ends up being a "What has been seen, cannot be unseen" kind of thing, and that's why I think the first impression of an image is the most important.
