He Who Lurks -> Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 19:54:59)

By rewarding kindness, I don't mean giving a player moderator status. Why don't we have some sort of system where we can reward a player positive/negativity points, based upon in-game actions? I've just been through a 2vs2 where both opponents mocked me, calling me a noob when my partner ran away about mid-battle. We should be able to reward these points so the community would have reason to be kind. What do you think about rewarding players for their positive actions?

Atomic garden -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:01:55)

For every time you say
"noob" -1
"gg" +1

or

leaving partner -4
staying though match even after dead +4

veneeria -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:04:04)

cheaters might abuse that... Also the kind are not always the fair...

voidance -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:13:02)

Lol what if i say "good game noob"?

IsaiahtheMage -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:14:16)

I dont see the problem.

Ashari -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:17:06)

This would just turn into a popularity contest.

You can't judge kindness with in-game mechanics anyways. It's part of a person's personality... if someone is naturally kind they don't need a reward for it. This would just turn kindness into a competition at which point it's not genuine kindness anymore.

veneeria -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:20:50)

Let me explain it clearly:

if it goes like you guys are saying.. then that means that:
By spamming..... "gg" over 9000 times, makes me mod.
BRAVO ..wow! I am now a mod and i am gonna ban people for no reason at all!

Although, good behavior is different.. if the player never was muted/reported... or alike.. he could have a reward.. but NOT Mod-ship! perhaps 1000 credits or something... fro every month.

This is what I have proposed, why not grant players level 29 and above the ability to add/deduct points away from players as they see fit? This way, I doubt a player would want to waste his time leveling up all his account to level 29 just to increase their own "notoriety"(i guess you would call it that). Not only that, but how about players only being able to do this once a day so they'll think before giving?

Ashari -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:28:55)

^ Again, that's hardly rewarding kindness. That's just creating a popularity system -- one that is very easy to abuse. If someone held a grudge against someone (justified or not), it wouldn't be hard for them to get their faction & friends to deduct points from that person.

This would become a major griefing tool in faction vs. faction competition.

veneeria -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:32:59)

^Yep... in which i will again quote myself... the closest thing might be:
quote:

Although, good behavior is different.. if the player never was muted/reported... or alike.. he could have a reward.. but NOT Mod-ship! perhaps 1000 credits or something... from every end of the month.

He Who Lurks -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:36:41)

Ashari, quote below.

quote:

I find that to be incorrect. Before you reward "kindness" or deplete it, you'd have to find that person first. Why would a player spend all day searching for someone he/she hates just to lower their "kindness" level? I agree, a few more precautions could be added to this system, but other than that I don't see a major problem.

Ashari -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 20:40:26)

^ Ok, but what's to stop players from saying "Let me win or I'll deduct kindness from you"? People already beg to win... this would just give them ammunition to use against you when you don't let them win.

This is after all a PVP game. While it might be "nice" to let someone win, if I want to get anything done I have to win my games.

button33 -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 21:10:25)

So for helping people out, there could be a reward
Also, if we were to insult each other, we would lose points.
Players cannot deduct points, but only add points
Meanwhile the system can add or deduct points. This way people cannot abuse points by threatening to take some away

Giras Wolfe -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/3/2011 21:14:03)

Because it is impractical and difficult to quantify.

charwelly -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 5:23:14)

It won't work players will just abuse it somehow

helloguy -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 9:36:33)

Why don't we just award hackers??

Cinderella -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 14:34:53)

The general concept is good, but in EpicDuel as in the real world, impractical.

This is the common response of someone who has yet to find a problem with this. By the way guys, I'm not saying there should be a prize for being kind, but the prize is that your just kind, like have it show some sort of status.

Nailboss -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 15:04:42)

adding an achievement when you get to +1000 rep would be nice ;)

Matgon -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 15:47:40)

Imagine all the beggers.... It's a good idea but no one will take it seriously. :/

AzZratuSS -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 16:00:34)

heh guys the pigs are not flyin but everithing can happen and sure this can be an very good ideea but why not to reward us idk with money in game or vaarium for veterans players who were in beta or who beats the npcs titan nighwraith ,etc u know to give us some more money like 5k credits if we beat every hard npc now seriously guys!![:D]

drekon -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 18:01:50)

To be fair, it's important to acknowledge that ALL aspects of the game is subject to abuse. So, try not to silence this idea just because it has potential for abuse. Personally, I think the concept is great, with the addition of Nailboss' idea of adding an achievement. It just needs to be refined a bit further. How about this...

System Controlled:
Players gain +3 rep points for logging on every 24 hours.
Players gain +10 rep points for defeating Boss NPCs (One time ONLY!)
Players gain +1 rep point for every win achieved without critical damage. (Optional, but a fair rule.)
Players gain +1 rep points every 24 hours they are with a faction.
Players lose -10 rep points every time they "leave" a faction. (Not removed from it)
(Note: This will be a good deterrent for faction hoppers seeking easy achievements.)
Players lose -3 rep points each time they call others "noob", "nub", or any other insulting word or phrase.
Players lose -1 rep point for being inactive every 24 hours.
(Note: Logging in doesn't count as being active. At least not for factions. Players' activity log only updates after getting a win. So if you logged in today you get +3 points, but if you don't get a win you lose -1 point.)

Player Controlled:
Players can be awarded up to +5 rep points (max) daily from other players.
Players can give up to +5 rep points daily, but only +1 rep point (max) to one player.
(This can be done for any reason the player chooses, but presumably for getting help with something or just because a player was kind to them. Limiting the number of rep points that can be given to any one player is key to preventing abuse. An example of this would be if a player asked where to find a weapon, and you helped him/her locate it, that player can "choose" to reward you with +1 rep point for your help.) (Edited: This "rewarding" feature could be in the form of thumbs up for easier use.)

I spend a lot of time helping players with their builds without a reward. It would be nice to be rewarded for my time and effort.

Achievement:
Players with 5,000 rep points will be awarded with a "Community Player" achievement worth +2,500 rating points.
(Other names for this achievement could be "Nice Guy", "Nice Girl", "Community Helper", etc.)

Note: Players who gain this achievement may feel it's now okay to taunt other players or start faction hopping, so it's best to allow this achievement to be removed if the player's rep points fall below 5,000 due to deductions. Also, since players can continually receive rep points even after getting the achievement, a tier system could be implemented. Upon achieving the rep point requirements for additional tiers, players will get additional achievements. This may raise some concerns about players getting too much rating points from this new system, but it depends on how you view it. Please note that it could take months to complete the first tier (5,000 rep points). In that time, players will be giving back to the community in many ways. (logging in, being active(factions will benefit from this), helping others, and most importantly building a more respectful community) I think this is well worth the rating points. If the admins feel otherwise, then consider using a system similar to the current Ranking system, but instead of upgrading ranks based on wins, upgrade reputation based on rep points.

I would like to know what my fellow players and mods think about this refined concept. If you see areas that can still be abused, please point them out. Feel free to share any additional ideas. It's good that we initiate discussions like this. I have a strong feeling that a system like this could help make Epic Duel a much more friendly, respectable, and active community.

Algorithm -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 18:03:45)

Rofl this would so be abused if it was implemented.

eragonshadeslayer67 -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/4/2011 18:14:22)

Kindness is a choice. If your trying to be nice with other intentions then drop the act. Please.

Giras Wolfe -> RE: Why Don't We Reward Kindness? (3/5/2011 13:37:55)

Kind people are rewarded by having friends and the knowledge that they are good players to be around and spreading positive attitudes. I help new players make builds just for the joy of giving them help and their gratitude. I don't want some obnoxious "score" for doing it. It just isn't possible to make a system that won't be obnoxiously abused to death. It would be reasonable for players on the forums who are helpful and kind, like Ashari, to recieve an achievement, but this is just not doable. Also, gaining rep points for not critting is not fair at all, seeing as that implies high support players are bad people.

Also your player controlled thing would be just awful. "GIV MEH POINTZ! PLZZZZZZZZZ!! OMG GIV MEH PNTS I WNT ACHEEVMNT!! PLZZZZ!!!"

Also whether or not you are a nice player has NOTHING TO DO with if you log in every 24 hours.

Also, I am overusing the word also.

Eragonshadeslayer makes a great point too. Whats the point of kindness if the motives are totally selfish? Could you really trust anyone to be sincerely kind to you if they're just looking for some stupid achivement?
