I've never been a big fan of the saying "show, don't tell" in writing because it doesn't really tell you anything. However, I found this. The former quote sounds like some it was calculatedly made as a bulletpoint, whereas this is from an actual writer and makes it sound much more genuine:

quote:

Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.

quote:

Darwin did not know what a bitter satire he wrote on mankind, and especially on his countrymen, when he showed that free competition, the struggle for existence, which the economists celebrate as the highest historical achievement, is the normal state of the animal kingdom. Only conscious organization of social production, in which production and distribution are carried on in a planned way, can lift mankind above the rest of the animal.
Friedrick Engels

quote:

The country is governed for the richest, for the corporations, the bankers, the land speculators, and for the exploiters of labour. The majority of mankind are working people. So long as their fair demands - the ownership and control of their livelihoods - are set at naught, we can have neither men's rights nor women's rights. The majority of mankind is ground down by industrial oppression in order that the small remnant may live in ease.
Helen Keller

Some people take pride in saying that they will never change. Change what is bad about you, and keep what is good.

~ Myself

To fear fear means to be afraid of reaching the point in which you lose control and your mind is in disarray, thoughts scrambled and lost.

~ Myself

I understand that disgust is a meaningless feeling. Why, when we came from the water, lived in the filth of others, ate raw meat...? There is no thing that is alien, as all is natural.

~ Myself

Why fear death with the possibility of not existing as a person when we are a part of the universe? We have used to be nothing! And that nothing was a something.

~ Myself

When it seems I can suppress the desire to be controlled by desire, anger, hatred and jealousy, greed... I could never suppress the impulse to feel despair.

So yall want some quotes? Here's a couple borrowed from SaveTheGuns.com

quote:

"Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us."
Thomas Jefferson (Declaration of the Causes and Necessities of Taking up Arms, 6 July 1775)

quote:

"Any single man must judge for himself whether circumstances warrant obedience or resistance to the commands of the civil magistrate; we are all qualified, entitled, and morally obliged to evaluate the conduct of our rulers. This political judgment, moreover, is not simply or primarily a right, but like self-preservation, a duty to God. As such it is a judgment that men cannot part with according to the God of Nature. It is the first and foremost of our inalienable rights without which we can preserve no other."
John Locke (1632-1704) English philosopher and political theorist.

Philosoraptor time!

Fear is proportional to trust. The more fear that exists, the less trust... and vice-versa.

~ I

There is faith in (and I do support in the basic essence of...) business, law, military, but add money and suddenly the human mind is wrecked with desire, greed, and dishonesty. As a whole society we can evolve to grow to get over this weak property that is possibly the cause of a loss of moderation. How can so few be so mighty while so many be so meek and ravaged too?

~ I

When you say: "I am proud of you", you really mean: "I am happy to know of your progress and wish you a continued success". To be "proud" from someone else's accomplishments is quite the conceited feat.

~ I

Symbols wreck the personality... or scramble thoughts into prejudice, mementos preserve. Use mementos to stay true to your goals in the grand scope of things. Memories are meant to serve in the present time from the past. If they form nostalgia, they may distract you, and potentially have you disregard your other memories that were not as nostalgic. Balance your thoughts.

And here's something that I said in response to something my friend said. It sticks out in my mind because I hate how brains and braun are so often considered mutually exclusive.

"Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string." - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

As little as I think Emerson would agree with me in copying down what he had said word for word, far too many forget nowadays that to doubt one's self is to shoulder the burden of a life dependent on others. It takes a wise man to listen and an even more wise man to admit that he is wrong, but one cannot attain wisdom simply by watching and following. One must follow their heart, and that is why this quote resonates with me so deeply.
Oh Transcendentalism. ^_^

quote:

[A social order] in which competition for private profit has been eliminated, and in which social motivations are more dominant, is certain to be a more harmonious community than can ever be created by economic individualism.
quote:

The consolidation of financial and industrial power in the hands of a small section of the people leads inevitably to more and more intense congestion of money.
quote:

The prevailing anarchy in production could quickly be replaced by scientific utilisation of national equipment if the basic industries were transferred from private to public ownership and if all other industries were subjected to drastic public regulation, and this procedure offers the only possible escape from the industrial chaos of the competitive struggle on the one hand and from the calamitous exploitation of the people by semi-monopolistic private industry on the other.
quote:

If individuals exercise the freedom to seek their own gain through competitive struggle and to acquire unlimited wealth and property, the result for most of the population will be bondage to destitution and insecurity.
quote:

Cooperation and mutuality produce goodwill and harmony, whereas competition for special privilege divides men into warring camps.
quote:

The wastage from economic conflict is so titanic under individualism that even if gross productivity should be reduced somewhat under socialisation of the basic industries, the mass of people would nevertheless be better off because of the diminished conflict and resultant devastation.
Kirby Page

I have two more Kirby Page quotations I would share, but parts of them were cut out, and I cannot find the original text. As a result, I do not feel comfortable sharing them until I properly understand what has been intentionally omitted.
