An Example:
quote:
Do not bump "dead" topics If a topic has not been posted in for 5 days or more, the topic is finished. Please don't post in it.
~AQW GD rules
So can a dead thread be automatically deleted? Would that work?
Chii -> RE: A Forums Suggestion! (3/14/2011 22:33:55)
Threads which are inactive long enough do get automatically deleted. The inactivity period before delay is dependent on the specific forum.

But why not just after the 5 days? It's already dead right?
Chii -> RE: A Forums Suggestion! (3/14/2011 23:40:46)
It depends on the forum and the particular thread. In AQW GD, where many, many new threads might be made in a single day, 5 days without activity is equivalent to a week or more in another forum. In another forum, 5 days is a lapse, but not necessarily enough to even get it to the second page.

Also, old threads can prevent a lot of rehashing that occurs if threads are deleted too often.
