Ubear -> AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 17:56:26)

As shown here: http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=18118626
Only AQW, DF and ED can make unofficial clans on the forums.

But, players who posted in a (now deleted) thread in AQGD, want to make unofficial clans for AQ but have nowhere to put it. There were quite a few people who supported the idea and I would like to suggest there be a place on the forums for Unofficial AQ Clans to be made.

Why isn't there a section already?

necrolich66 -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:08:19)

i play DF and the bacon of hope is so big that they have their items in the game
i don't ask for items but making a clan of lively poeple and warmongers would be fine and maybe some apparitions like in DF

Lord Barrius -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:08:48)

There used to be. It was decided that such clans were unnecessary, since they only existed previously under the impression that AQ would eventually add a clan system to AQ. The result of that, after several years, was Paxia.

At that point, it became clear that AQ clans in their original form were not going to be implemented, and the board was eventually removed.

To create it again now would require having enough moderation staff to regulate the board without detracting from our existing numbers. I think our AK numbers aren't as great as they could be, already, without increasing the board's size even further.

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:10:08)

@LB: It could be as simple as to allow AQ unofficial clans here: http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tt.asp?forumid=331
Like they do for a few other games

Elryn -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:10:20)

I support this idea. I would like to add the following arguments in favor :

- With the coming of war kill records on character pages, this had lead to a rise in competition on the forum in regards to war kill counts and the like. As it may be seen with the recent war that activity is such that it has spark ideas of making warmongering clans. An unofficial forum would aid towards this. Consequently, I believe it would also increase war activity.

- The Paxia clans are good and useful in there own rights, but are too restrictive for the diverse uses possible for unofficial clans. Take the former for example, Paxian clans can indeed race between themselves in wars, however this is restricted to the existing clans. These clans are numerous in numbers and make it hard to have entire clans compete amongst each other. Unofficial clans make war races more feasible by allowing diverse types of clans to exist to fit diverse needs : small clan races, specialty clan races, this type of clan versus this type of clan, etc.

- The former arguments puts this one at hand : diversity. A number of different kinds of clans may exist, however that is not possible to incorporate in the pre-established paxian clans.

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:13:08)

I remember being part of a clan called The Black Hand, which was on the AE forums for AQ players to join. This was about 2 years ago and was created by chipmunkking. Why was the option of creating a unofficial AQ clan discontinued?

Chii -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:25:26)

The option was disabled because it was made clear that Paxia was the only way clans would ever be implemented in AQ, and the only reason the forum existed otherwise was under the assumption that clans would be added to the game. So once in-game clans were added, they replaced the unofficial forum.

As for why it couldn't just be re-made, the AK shortage makes that a challenge.

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:28:02)

I'm sure there are AKs for the section I am pointing towards, all it needs is to edit the rules and say that AQ unofficial clans can be posted there.

Lord Barrius -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:31:17)

I can't speak for Clan AKs, but I don't think they consider their job all that "simple", and yet you're volunteering them for more work. :P

Let me ask you this. What would adding unofficial clans for AQ inside these forums contribute that they do not already contribute by existing outside of our forums?

Elryn -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:33:41)

Sounds like the best way to go. It would be better than creating another section of forum which would be difficult. The only things that would change would be the rules (include Adventure quest unofficial clans) and an increase in traffic in that section. Would that be too much for the AK's there to handle? Would there be any other issue that comes to mind?

Barrius, more organisation and less disorder in war thread is one thing that comes to mind. Say for example TEEPOL and Mystical Warrior's clan were to go head to head in the next war. The only place to organize that would be on the war thread itself. Now, I am not quite certain two clans doing this is actually on-topic and if the back and forth between clan related discussions and war/event related discussion is wished. What more, should more clans be created that would put more load on the war thread. I am not quite certain if a single war thread is design to accommodated all that.

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:38:56)

@LB: When TEEPOL is re-created, they will have their own forums (which someone is working on right now), and every member will have their own TEEPOL signature. So to stop people spamming where-ever we post asking "what is TEEPOL" like last time, we will just link to the thread which explains TEEPOL. Plus, why not do it? It's only a few more threads to look at for the AKs. Guess the best job would be to PM them, then?

necrolich66 -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 18:50:55)

we could start with a small start and let a few clans
let's take teepol as example and let 1,2 or 3 others and see if it functions well and if it does making it bigger after finding AKs
i totaly support the idea of an even greater link between members than being warmongers or even helpers but a clan makes a sort of bound and also help friendly rivalery and for some maybe pride to deffend
it can just make a betther sphere on the forum and i don't see any troublemakers like in AQW that could harass others or such because of clans

Lord Barrius -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 19:04:42)

I don't think you understood my question.

I did not ask "what benefits do AQ clans offer?". I asked "what benefits do unofficial AQ clan threads in our forums serve that cannot easily be better served by clans outside the forums, on their own boards?". So far, I haven't really seen a sufficient answer to that.

In fact, only one answer has really been provided. And things like "organizing head-to-head events for wars" can be done on each other's clan forums. There's nothing keeping you from allowing members of other clans to join your clans' forums, just alter access levels if you feel like some things need to be kept secret.

Remember, "why not" isn't sufficient reason to change something. Policies exist for a reason, and while we may defend those policies, in the end a change of policy should only occur if the reasoning provided is better than the reason for the policy existing. The burden of showing forum staff why a policy should be changed is on you.

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 19:09:28)

I don't get it.. Why is it a problem for AQ to have unofficial clans but not other games?? Just because they don't have official clans in game? >_>

Chii -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 19:11:04)

The other games don't have integrated clans already in-game (aside from MechQuest, which you'll notice doesn't have unofficial clans either).

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 19:12:54)

I see. If everyone who wants to make a unofficial AQ clan could make their own forum then this would be no problem. But not all people can do such things. Unofficial clans on the forums will bring the community together, and there could be unofficial contests between clans on the forums.

Chii -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 19:15:52)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but last I knew, unofficial contests between clans aren't allowed at the moment regardless. Certainly, I see very little of it in the unofficial clans forum which you linked (in fact, absolutely none). All of that takes place off-forums.

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 19:36:28)

Okay okay, don't come moaning to me though when there a few TEEPOL sigs about linking to our forums :)

Lord Barrius -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/17/2011 20:17:35)

That would be advertising for a clan that hasn't been approved by the clan forums, which is violating forum rules.

If you want to recruit for your clan, you'll have to do it outside of these forums unless the policy in place is changed.

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/18/2011 4:23:27)

Seriously?? Just putting a signature, with no advertising words or anything, which links to our forums, is against the rules? I don't see how that's against the rules it is only linking to a different forum and it's not telling people to recruit or nothing. We've got a way of recruiting people.

Mordred -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/18/2011 4:36:48)

@Ubear: Guess dem's da rules. :( However, it's not impossible to do the clan thing. You could PM those members you wish to join. It would be a super ubear secret clan for the elite!

Ubear -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/18/2011 4:46:05)

We've got a way of recruiting people and we don't need the forums for that. Having the clan siggy as my signature will show I am proud to be in the clan, not advertising at all, nothing wrong with that. Just because there will be a few doesn't mean we're advertising.

majesticstar3800 -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/18/2011 15:05:18)

Hey, my clan siggy is a LEGAL way to advertise, actually. My clan leader said so.

Signatures with links to offsite forums are allowed, but your last comment was in fact advertising. Removed. ~Everest

Lord Barrius -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/18/2011 18:21:27)

I think a lot of the problems with this discussion stem from the apparent fact that almost no one in this thread has read the rules in that section of the forums. I would suggest you all read them over before resuming this discussion.

Advertising a clan that has not been okayed with the clan staff isn't allowed. The only kinds of clans allowed are DF, AQW, and ED. That means advertising an unofficial AQ clan is not okay until you provide sufficient reason that the policy should be changed. And again, "why not" is not sufficient.

Also, you may not advertise your clan in PM, either. That's been against the rules at least since I first came to these forums, so I'm not sure where you would have gotten the impression that it was okay. It's irritating to some of our players to be pestered to join a clan in PM like that.

Mordred -> RE: AQ Unofficial clans (4/18/2011 18:25:25)

Okay, I'll say I did not know about the PM thing. *goes to read the rules*

Seems like a moot point, since AQ already has clans. :/
