Wiseman -> RE: Titan, NW, Charfade, and Cinderella (5/22/2011 15:48:47)

It may be an old thread, but communication is still an issue. I agree that many things could be communicated better between developers and players, keep in mind thought that Charfade post quite often and she is a developer. This game has three big problems that are intertwined. 1. It has an extremely small team for a full MMO game. (Understaffed) 2. It has a Bad Community. 3. The lack of communication. With that in mind, each of these issues need worked on, however each of them is preventing the developers from working on the others. 1. Understaffed - They have tried to get a larger team, however at this time everyone in AE is already assigned on separate projects, and there's just nobody to spare. They could hire someone new, but they would require training, and it would be awhile before they are able to help a lot. 2. Bad Community - The community has become very bad, players seem to be insulting each other in just about every battle, fame is spammed everywhere, and there is a lot of scamming and account sharing going on. It's our job as mods to punish these players (minus the fame spam), however there's another problem, many players have lost faith in the current report system, or they are too lazy to take the time to report to "The Lawman". Because of that most of these problems are never seen by the moderation staff, and what we don't see, we cant resolve. The developers do plan to improve the in game report system in the future, so reporting would be much easier for the players, however until that happens, the big issues should still be reported to "The Lawman". Remember, improving the community starts with the players, and taking the time to report can make a difference. 3. Lack of Communication - The ED team does not have a marketing expert, or a customer service expert at this time, so the communication issues also takes us back to the understaffed issue. Cinderella is the new PR, and I'm sure she will do a fine job, however at this time she is still in training, and as with anyone in training she will make mistakes, and learn from them. Give them time, they are trying to improve the communication problem as best as they are able. I agree that the developers should at least give a day are two notice on the features and their cost, they could still keep things like weapons/armor stats secret till they are released, or even the equipment itself. However prices for the wanted features, and the details around their release should indeed be announced before they come, so players have time to prepare and decide. I'm sure with time the communication will improve, maybe not to the point where the developers post all the time on the forum, but at least to the point where full details are announced on the design notes ahead of time (before release day). And hopefully any changes or problems are also announced so they don't surprise everyone, I also think the developers should stop saying things like "coming soon" and replace it with "future items" or "planned features" or even "Epic Things To-Do", just to name a few. Anyway I hope that brings some insight to the situation, and hopefully in the near future, things will begin to improve. Just remember, a lot of it depends on the players support and patience as well (especially the community issue). Thanks for reading.
