T.600 -> Restore the glory of mages while maintaining balance? (5/15/2011 2:00:00)

What do you think could help mages return to their glory because right now mages are clearly the weakest class in the game.

Heres some possibilities to discuss:

Bring back the field medic cooldown to 3

Remove agility

Revamp the mage skill tree; make overload ignore a res %, give plasma bolt a crit %, buff technician ( how much points it gives or add 15% bloodlust to it), make plasma rain do more damage, increase the damage of super charge, make the energy amount taken away by assimilation unblockable.

Better weapons with stat modifiers to suit mages. ( Armors, auxillaries, guns, primaries, robots,)

(If you have anything to add to the list please tell me).

yes, and nerf bunker (take away crit percent), make supercharge more on par with massacre and SS (25% ignore instead of 20% and 35% life instead of 30%), and possibly buffing other multis to be on par with artillery (make plasma rain life stealing) (multi shot take away 10% of rage)

while u are at it lets bring back no stat requirments to all skill. lets see diamon blades,tatics, uber super charge,1st turn mass, iron skin and 20% ignore dif artilery strike and also remove agility. this would really make the very fun but unbalance. a purpose of a game is to have fun while playing it. actually not really unbalanced because all classes have thier oped builds so it be better that way.

Mages would not be OPed because agility would weaken their defences.

name an OP tm build... tm only had heal looping now its gone and while keeping agility they wont be at full str
merc have: tank, support, and str builds
bh have: 5 focus and str

so ur fine against unstoppable support merc in 2v2, a quick kill merc that if he goes 1st cld stun u and kill b4 u get a turn, a str bh that is very hard to beat, a tank merc that u will be lucky to do any noticeable dmg 2, but yet ur not even fine with a heal loopin tm not even at full power?

i would rather have agility gone than have the 3 round cooldown back. a three round cooldown will allow a form heal loopin to come back. but if agility were remove or altered in some form so it was like the diminishing returns on skills instead of being penalized for havin high health that would allow for more versatile builds, and maybe encourage a little more creativity, and hopfull drive people away for the stupid and boring bot builds.

Nope +4 cool down on field medic is ok, most of my fight I can heal twice.

Oh I like this....However it won't float. Supercharge and some other mage skills do need a buff, but lowering the cooldown, just means more heal looping which the devs really want to avoid. So I don't see it happening...I am all for it though :)

I think the game would be balanced if the field medic cooldown went back to 3 or if assimilation,overload, plasma bolt, plasma rain, technician and super charge got buffed ( yeah most of the mage skill tree is pretty useless). If you go above 140 health you get -4 defence and resistance, so the current builds could still destroy a mage with high health thanks to agility. I would just like for more strategic gameplay and not just boring 5 focus; everyone is using 5 focus. Boring...

ehem if u bring back the old sc that build is also and oped build. i m saying we should bring back all the oped build including heal loop. read my post properly next time.

well 5 focus BH still beats heal loop. so it be pointless if half the varium BH population is 5 focus.

A 5 focus bh against a heal looping TM ( with 3 FM cooldown) would be an interesting battle.

When I say "heal loop" I mean a new era of heal loop with 110-140hp.

thats the one im talking about.
i had a heal loop build with 136 hp
the only build that easily teared it apart was 5 focus BH.
even str merc after stunning and doing berserker couldn't kill.
also includes str BH.
they were by far the easiest to beat.
but 5 focus BH was very complicated.
if i get into details of why 5 focus BH beats heal loop. its gonna be a long post.

yea alot of the mage skill tree need a bit of an adjustment.

what ur saying it that you r sick of seeing 5 focus bot builds. if the FM cooldown went down to 3 that would just make those builds better because they have low hp so being able to heal sooner would benefit more than just about any other build. but part of the reason sooo many people are using 5 focus (besides the fact its very powerful) is that if they try to use a build with more hp they get penalized. So ur statment here is totaly bass ackwards. so no agiltiy would be far better than 3 round cooldown

Maybe you could of won if the field medic cooldown was at 3?

@blood: No I mean that it could make builds with 110-140 hp more competable against focus builds.

exactly. all agility is doing is denying players the abiltiy to access high hp and INCREASING the power of 5focus builds
