The Doctor -> RE: A Comprehensive Balance Discussion II (5/16/2011 18:23:07)

A lot of people seem to have an odd idea of what balance actually is. Just because your class gets better doesn't mean that the game as a whole does... this is undeniable truth. Let's break this down to a simple equation, shall we? Figure this: The Doctor- 3 credits The Master- 3 credits The Silence- 2 credits So, The Silence is obviously unnaturally poor in this scenario. The Silence decides to take two credits from The Master, changing the numbers. The Doctor- 3 credits The Master- 1 credit The Silence- 4 credits By focusing on only one of three groups, you tend to break what you had previously "corrected". Now... if we had, instead, taken only one credit from The Doctor and The Master, what would we have? The Doctor- 2 credits The Master- 2 credits The Silence- 4 credits Do you see now how easy it is to appear to be balancing something while actually worsening the problem? What you have to do is equalize the game as a whole, not individual classes. The Doctor- 1 credit The Master- 1 credit The Silence- 1 credit From here, everyone has an equal base and an equal chance to succeed. Oh... and it also happens that ones are very easy to understand. Thank you, ~The Doctor
