Wraith -> A Comprehensive Balance Discussion II (5/15/2011 19:37:08)

After Ashari deleted my thread...I'm making one to fit the topic.

Right now I think Hybrid Armor needs a buff. Mercs are too easy. All you do is smoke and Reflex Boost. The game gets boring.

Original Topic, =ED= Comprehensive Balance Discussion, was created by The Doctor, not me. I was merely re-bringing up the topic.

But what if you're a tech mage? What do you do as nonvarium? How do we beat all of those guys?

IsaiahtheMage -> RE: A Comprehensive Balance Discussion (5/15/2011 19:50:03)

This is not a balance discussion this is clearly stating I can pwn mercs they need their hybrid armor buffed you didnt look at the perspective of other players. I do agree our hybrid should be returned to its original state its unfair how our ONLY PASSIVE AND DEFENCE got nerfed. I find that completely unfair.

Wraith -> RE: A Comprehensive Balance Discussion (5/15/2011 19:50:26)

It isn't that hard. For tech mercs malf, for str mercs technician, for support mercs dm and heal. how hard is that?

EDIT: Isaiah you agree with me and you say this isn't a balance discussion. I am confused.

I beg to differ. Mercs are overpowered in 2v2, and any Balance Update that weakens them and/or strengthens Tech Mages is necessary, in my opinion. Bounty Hunters are somewhat Balanced, even with Tech Builds, seeing as they can't tank as easily as Mercs (Bounty Hunters don't have anything like Hybrid Armor).

And if anyone disagrees with me, for any reason, I have one question:

Why are there so many Mercs in 2v2?

merc is most used in 2 vs 2 because its the easiest to use.
and because they are in mass numbers people think they are OP.

any skilled tech mage can win daily 2 vs 2 champ at 80%+.
i know because when i was a tech mage i did it at 85% but couldn't play the last 3 hours so the guy behind me won by like 10 wins.

i was lvl 28 when i started and the cap was 31 at that time.

No Class should be "the easiest to use". If our goal is to achieve Balance, then all Classes should be roughly equal in terms of power. Right now, we're close... but not close enough.

Tech Mages do need a buff. Something like a revamp of the skilltree.

How is that? You can figure out the skills yourself.

Hopefully the Stuff in my Signature can help contribute to this discussion

@Lord Sinastar - Don't mind the Spreadsheet. It's an unfinished thing of mine that I accidentally left public that I should've made private again. What really matters for this discussion are the two pastebin things.

EDIT: Deleted Spreadsheet stuff.

^Throw in that Bot eventually weak thing PD, it was very important to me.

Right now I still think Strength is the most powerful stat. Thinkabout my scenario vs a STR Merc.

He Mauls me for 42 damage, while my energy bot can only do 38. He berzerks me for 12 12 37.

The Doctor -> RE: A Comprehensive Balance Discussion II (5/16/2011 18:23:07)

A lot of people seem to have an odd idea of what balance actually is.
Just because your class gets better doesn't mean that the game as a whole does... this is undeniable truth.

Let's break this down to a simple equation, shall we?
Figure this:

The Doctor- 3 credits
The Master- 3 credits
The Silence- 2 credits

So, The Silence is obviously unnaturally poor in this scenario.
The Silence decides to take two credits from The Master, changing the numbers.

The Doctor- 3 credits
The Master- 1 credit
The Silence- 4 credits

By focusing on only one of three groups, you tend to break what you had previously "corrected".
Now... if we had, instead, taken only one credit from The Doctor and The Master, what would we have?

The Doctor- 2 credits
The Master- 2 credits
The Silence- 4 credits

Do you see now how easy it is to appear to be balancing something while actually worsening the problem?
What you have to do is equalize the game as a whole, not individual classes.

The Doctor- 1 credit
The Master- 1 credit
The Silence- 1 credit

From here, everyone has an equal base and an equal chance to succeed.
Oh... and it also happens that ones are very easy to understand.

Thank you,
~The Doctor
