I feel the min-modding rules should be loosened up a little bit. There's 1 rule that should be loosened: Off-Topic. What I mean is we should be able to tell them
quote:

"doesn't this belong in a different thread?"
etc without being warned. It's just a thing that we're telling them where they need to post it. Per sides I believe we are saving the mods a major job.

To which forum is this referenced? If it's with a specific subforum, it would be best just to bring this up in a PM with the head moderator. Or ... if you're having issues with a specific issue, you could just contact the AK/mod involved.

However, I don't see how anything could be changed ... I'm not familiar with the moderation policies of each forum, but I don't believe warnings are issued anywhere for directing a person to another thread/forum (granted, it has to be done somewhat politely :P). We encourage people to help each other out, but there's a difference between helping and demanding, and that's what is and what is not considered and mini-modding. Posts that just point out mistakes and don't actually do anything (eg "this doesn't belong here") are considered spam anyway ...

The following will contain quotes from the Key Definitions and Other Forum Notes thread, found within the Forum Rules and Resources forum.

As you know, your example is considered mini-modding, therefore ArchKnights/Moderators have the right to send you a warning depending on certain circumstances (such as your forum history and tone of post). However, cases such as this one usually do not result in a warning, especially if it's the first occurrence.

Now, I'll shamelessly copy a paragraph from the Key Definitions thread so as to show you why the quoted example is considered mini-modding:
quote:

As a community, we should all work together to help each other out. Posting to tell someone where to find something or where their post might belong is one of the ways we can function as a team. But it's a fine line between trying to help someone out and trying to tell someone what to do. The only people with that authority are members of the moderating staff, and it's important that they be allowed to do their job. When posting to help someone out, make sure the tone of your post is friendly - everyone makes mistakes or has to ask a question so it's important to be tolerant and accepting - and be sure to provide links and quotes so that the question or issue is addressed. Your post should not consist solely of direction, it should also answer the question or address the issue that caused their post in the first place. Posting merely to instruct someone as to how they should behave is mini-modding and is prohibited behavior.

I, for one, believe this rule is fair and adequate. The forums are moderated by a highly skilled team, ready to take action in case anything is wrong. It is their duty to make sure the forums are a safe place for everyone, and not the other way around.

If you, however, wish to help other users instead of simply instructing them, and are willing to follow the guidelines quoted above, I thank you deeply! We all appreciate your will to help! Seeing forumites assisting each other everyday is truly awe-inspiring! But please bear in mind there's a line between helping and moderating.

To tell the truth, I have had the same problem, although I was lucky enough to not get warned. I had devoted 4/5 of a post to helping a player, and, as a side-note, linked them to where their questions should go into the future, which was met with a PM from an ArchKnight telling me that such things should be left to mods in the future... Eh, what'cha gonna do?

Locked per request. If someone wishes to continue discussion, they are welcome to PM me or another FR AK with their concerns.
