No Brainer -> Image Tags for AKs/Mods ONLY (6/22/2011 10:58:22)

Recently someone posted a very in-appropriate images using Image tags, I'm not sure if this is the first time that's happened ( I highly

doubt that was the first time) so I think it would be a better idea to make image tags for AKs/Mods ONLY. Some of you may ask "What

about signatures?" True signatures are a nice function to have but what is more important? The forumer's safety or the forumer's

happiness? Parents that let their children use these forums trust that there will be no in-appropriate images, bad language, etc.

The Pros of this idea:
Forumer's are more "safe".
There will be less and less trolls, true some people may make hate threads but at least they will not be able to post an image.

The Cons of this idea:
Signatures will be hard to use/cant use at all
Normal players won't be able to post Design Notes.

True, people would be able to just place links in their post but that's what the link interceptor is for.

Thoughts?

I like the idea and in the same time, I don't like it... If they remove the Link Tags, we will be forced to post LONG LINKS sometimes with the posts. But in the good side, the Forums will be Cleaner and more trustable. I mostly think this idea is a success! ;)

I think you have the wrong Idea, I mean image tags like
[image][/image]
I think those shouold be an AK/Mod only function.

but you also have to note that the image tags are used all over the forums
for example i know that places like the showcase, people will put up banners and examples
its much easier to look at them rather than actually clicking on the link.

besides, its not that difficult for an AK to remove the image tag if nessecary

Signatures is the only customizable thing we have. :/ Taking away the image tags won't make

. I'd probably leave the forums if they took away the image tag, as a signature maker I'd be a rebel without a cause. o.o

It's a wealth of information filled with a group of good people with the same intrests. Of course when factoring in the "others" (you know what I mean), you'll get horribly, horrible cases like this. Really I have to disagree with this as it's common both on the internet AND in real life. It's trully up to the parents if they want their children to be on here or not. You just have to look at everything with a positive outlook and hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. You never know what could happen.

I take happiness, no offense, but its the AK and Mods job too take care of this, we shouldnt pay a cost becuase underaged kids visit, I will quit/rebel against the forum if it happens.

Supertails -> RE: Image Tags for AKs/Mods ONLY (6/23/2011 14:38:35)

I think that the image tag should definitely be for everyone. Inappropriate images aren't common enough that they should have t be taken away, really. XD

This would also put a whole lot of extra strain on the Archknights/Mods/KoO for the various Enclycopedias on the forums. Normal users generally are the ones who take the images that are used for the pages.

I've only seen a few images over the years that are inappropiate (though then again I visit what are perhaps some of the most regulated boards on the forums), so personally, I don't think it's that big of a deal for such drastic action.

Everest -> RE: Image Tags for AKs/Mods ONLY (6/23/2011 15:23:38)

I will admit something here. You might be surprised how many times we remove inappropriate images, both in link form and in image form. Though it's quite obvious the image forms are worse. :P

However, I'm quite happy to see how few inappropriate images the members speaking up in this thread have seen over the years. More importantly, it shows me the system works relatively well as it is. While there are always members who seek to cause disruption by posting images, allowing image tags serves many purposes on these forums, among them information, creativity, and a sense of uniqueness. If things became so bad that the ArchKnights and Moderators couldn't keep up with the posting of inappropriate images, the capability would likely have to be removed, though I would be reluctant to suggest it. Safety is our biggest priority for the members of this forum, of course, but enjoyment is right up there as well and removing the latter to improve the former is only done when completely necessary.

That many of you haven't noticed many inappropriate images posted here supports the idea that in this case freedom need not be restricted to increase the safety of the forums. And it also shows how admirably and consistently the ArchKnights and Moderators patrol, I might add. ;)

So! It's terrible when images like that are either linked or embedded, admittedly, and I thank everyone here for their agreement. Therefore, on the rare occasion any member sees something inappropriate like that, the best way to help is to let a member of the forum staff know immediately. We monitor the boards extensively, but an extra hand or two to point something out we haven't yet seen is always appreciated.
