I think that there should be a alert when your inbox is full, maybe a pop-up like the kind that tells you have new Private Messages. The percentage until full inbox gauge is not that obvious and because at is located at the page it is not seen well.

You already receive a pop-up notifying you that you are out of inbox space when someone tries to send a PM to you while you have a full inbox. Additionally, if you try to send a PM to someone even though they wont receive it due to having a full inbox, you're informed so. It's a bit more awkward than being told beforehand but it works, and all it takes to avoid such situations is the occasional glance at your PM inbox's status bar.
