NOTE: I am using the known DF universe to help start this off, but as the stroy expands and progresses past the main continent, I will dip into an inferred DF universe. I will try my best to keep the geography and history as accurate as possible.

BOOK 1: The Ebon Prince

Ivin walked among the ruined buildings of Willowshire. The sky was a mix of purple and orange as the sun slowly passed below the horizon. The smell of charred homes and bodies filled the air. Smoke stung his eyes, seized his lungs and gave him a horrible cough.

He was completely unprepared for the attack. When the attack happened a few days ago, he was still in his fine robes and had no sort f protectin from a dragon's breath. He lost many good men in the attack-

"Your Highness!"

-But they were still here. His babysitters. The inquisitors were supposed to be guardians of the royal family, but they were akin to prison guards. "Captain, I'm down here, right next to the pile of dragon-thing corpses"

Between the pile of the humanoid reptile corpses and the rubble, a woman in a brilliant steel plate armor walked gracefully towards Ivin. She carried an ornate broadsword, along with her beautiful stern face and flowing raven black hair; created a force that would make any hardened warrior tremble in his greaves. "They're called dravir, Prince Ivin. Didn't you learn about them in your studies?"

"I only paid attention to the exploding bits. Who needs to know their anatmy when you can blow them up?" Said Ivin, complimented by a cocky smile.

"I didn't see you use any of those exploding bits when the dragon appeared."

"Did you see that thing? He would char me and swallow me whole."

"Hmph. Child." Her expression grew graver and more irritated, "We need to leave here. Now. The rest of the inquisitors have sensed something very odd."

"Oh no, a mage hunter has sensed weird magic, someone must be using magic to light candles."

"Hush, and let's be off. The rest of the brigade are waiting by the gates. We are going back to Verteroche."

"What about 'my responsibilities coming first'?"

"My responsibilities come first. Specifically the responsibility of keeping you alive and safe."

The rest of the inquisitors were not to far off, after about fifteen minutes, the pair reached the main group. One of the more nervous looking inquisitors was shaking and said when the captain arrived, "Thank the lords your here! Something really weird is going on. There's dark magic everywhere."

"Keep yourselves still men. We will not be taken surprised again."

Ivin walked in the middle of the soldiers, feeling a cold sense of honor. These men were sworn to give their lives for him if the need ever arose. He never felt worthy of their sacrifice.

"It's here!" One of the inquisitors pointed to a dragon shaped shadow in the sky.

"Guard the prince!" ordered the commander.

The dragon swooped down and landed before them. It was the same dragon from before, but it was-different. It were dark armor and it felt - darker, corrupted somehow.

The captain stepped forward, sword drawn and stance ready to strike. "You will not take them!" She jumped at the dragon, but it easily deflected her with dark flames.

The squad all screamed, "Captain!" The group charged at the beast, but were defeated easily by fire as well. Ivin was defenseless. The dragon breathed in for the final attack.

Ivin in a last attempt for his life, threw out spiraling flames to counter the dragon. But it was useless. The flames consumed him.

He was overtaken by a paralyzing cold. He felt his soul being slowing torn away from him. And finally he felt himself immersed in darkness.
