MrBones -> Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 8:36:41)

Well a couple of recent posts made by Elf priest Jzaanu about the game made me think.

If you look at the game closely, I find that it is not a game for kids at all. If you look at old videos you can see blood coming out of characters, the infamous 'hump' at the end of the ''giggity'' action, the way the female are drawn and the armors they wear, the rude environnement and just the simple fact of killing everybody just for the sake of it.

Now that was all before the merge. Now they have to obey the big company rules and make it 'clean' for a younger audience. But it is not how the game became sucessfull. The game was a hit because of the reasons I mentionned above (and some more I might oversaw).

They need to go back to their roots.

Any thoughts on that ?

GreatWarrior08 -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 8:40:34)

Yea i have to say i mean in Beta. when i was there girls had the Umm what would i have to say Butt? Idk. But it was showing and all the guys ran to girls and did the gigity which was Hump.

Haha brings me memory when me and skyline2793 now called as just Skyline was going to handshake and i pressed gigity By mistake Hahaha Awkward Moment Right there

T.600 -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 8:43:12)

The old giggity was definetly not the reason for Epicduel's success...I think that they should leave the rating as it is, there's no need for it to be changed to M. Most of the Epicduel players are under the age of 17, so applying an M rating to Epicduel would just be plain stupid.

Razen -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 8:45:38)

@T.600: Or financial genius. Considering that a lot of people who see a game with a M rating REALLY want to play that game. [:D]

Lenofor -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 9:01:13)

Like you said yourself, they have rules to follow. As long as they are with AE, they can't put mature content in the game, at least, mature content that isn't kid friendly.

Wraith -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 10:33:17)

Xendran HAS posted some M-rated armor suggestions on EDR lol. Why can't we have sexier females? Or at least some Gender custom varium armors.

1st Horseman -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 10:35:51)

Aplieng m rating wouldnt comply with aes rules. and anyway the staff dont care what we think.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 12:01:15)

I think Artix should have selection of game(s) for adults.

The term best example of how this game was is Muddy. The characters had imperfections and it had the presence of a world in real chaos and struggle.

Many had mentioned the Giggity action, I had spoken to a elder player mod about that Action right after the merger. He had told me, when it was initially added it to the game, it was, more or less, a gag. Many people knew the origin of it, and it was not abused, because the audience for the game was college students. When the younger demographics entered the game from Artix, the way the many children were using action became truly disgusting. My first post on edf was specifically about that action, and it needed to be removed because the game's demographics was changing.

Adults can handle themselves much better and more responsible, yet with children, sadly many behave as they see the world on their tv/internet.

This game can be gritty and responsible at the same time. The story board can mimmic our real world events and truly make a positive statement in living and learning. This is the #1 reason many of us players stayed. The opportunity for responsible growth, a true community game.

The transition will continue to be difficult, because you can't mix pvp within a world of conflict and add a bow tie/ tiara and waltz with it.

The only way good quality entertainment evolves and grows is by word of mouth. When Epic Duel was first introduced to me, I would honorably say, this game is amazing and opportunity in the positive direction is infinite. Now, it is just another "Artix" game with a clean healthy look that is deceptive, because it is pvp in a world of struggle.

The game doesn't need profanity, nudity or carnage to be considered adult. The content of the story, and the feel of the game should feel like we are all suffering, yet we want our world to improve at any costs.

This game now has become a Marketing tool for instant sales, and it is left in a odd middle ground of either hardcore pvp for dominance or clean entertainment. Sadly, this game looks out of place. AE better decide exactly what they are going to do with this game. If they don't know, it is best to scrap the game, and not let us as players pay for a failing product.

IsaiahtheMage -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 12:14:14)

I see no point in this. If you do that then what? What about all the high level varuim users that are kids? They will now have to leave all their hard earned work behind and forget about their characters? No. I dont support.

Sipping Cider -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 13:28:45)

What if there were graphics for those that are over 17 and for those that are under 17? I would think it would be easy to program, just like there are different quality graphics (high, medium, low). This would keep those young players and please the old players.

Fatal Impact -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 13:32:11)

Atleast make it rated T for Teen. lol

Have a language filter too that you can turn on/off for bad language.

Acient J -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 13:36:46)

Certainly the intended audience has changed; I don't think it would be okay to have a game targeted at college students when it's under Artix Entertainment's belt. Still, no one can deny the fact that it is more violently inclined than the swords-and-spells feel of other Artix games (even bullet-blasting MechQuest), and, as JZaanu pointed out, it has a more real world, so I think keeping the game as it is and putting a T rating on it would be fine. Of course that would not realistically stop younger kids from playing, but they would at least know what to expect.

redxtra -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 13:41:40)

@isaiah
im guessin u dont catch the thought or its not said good enough (no offence)
but like basicly you know when you make your account how you have 2 give your dob and like basicly 17 and younger have what we have now then 17+ has stuf added on like battle dmg and blood and stuff

xxmirxx -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 13:42:02)

Game was very fun because there was no enhancement, no robots ,no fame, there was no agility. Oh and it was cheaper to play as well giggle button or blood had nothing to do with ED success.

Lenofor -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 13:50:03)

Can't say i wouldn't like a bit more of blood and nudity to this game, but remember this is a CHILD's game and the story is pretty much non existant so the "mature content" that you see is probably your interpretation of the game's chaotic atmosphere and the stage scenarios.

hauki -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 13:53:19)

nobody wouldnt mind if theres some blood flowing

MrBones -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 15:14:44)

The point of this thread is not asking to add more blood, nudity or fowl language. It is about choosing target audiences for the game. It is about discussing the direction the game is taking.

This thread is directed to the adult community of the game. Time for you guys to be heard.

DillBagel -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 15:18:33)

This game used to be T, and the language filter didn't used to block every word that could possibly be used for anything. Why do we have to stoop down to Artix's E10?
I miss when the game was 13 and up, we didn't have so many losers. People playing were made to understand that it WAS 13+ and you shouldn't be complaining about content. I guess Artix didn't read those terms. :P

Infinity Everlasting -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 15:30:24)

Yes, I was coincidentially thinking about the same thing just a day earlier. Though rating it M would be a bit too much as its violence, humor, graphics are just minor so it would be T. I personally never regarded ED as anything too mature, though it is the only game where people flirt with each other constantly and "females" are harrased. I think the only thing this game should change is:

1) Armors- Female armors expose too much, and it shouldn't be a problem, but it usually results in harrasment and such.

2) Humor- Not sure if this would qualify as "mature" but Valery says things such as "I would run you over" and the all the NPCs ever do is flood you with trash talking.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 18:26:12)

the main problem with ED is now things are being funneled into the E10+ rating which is restricting the game ebcuase origanaly this game was most likely a T rating and that minor drop in rating is actully a huge difference in whats allowed

Lenofor -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 18:32:21)

I have a very long, many years history with AE games, and i can assure you that this game IS the most mature one they have, but still, after playing Witcher 2 my concept of "mature game" is a bit different. Well, they are blocking certain words now adays on the game, maybe to lower the age rating a bit? I would say this game is E13 because there still a bit of virtual violence in there with all the bazooka explosions and pistol shooting, there are little to no nudity themes or suggestive ones on the game beside a few low level mage armors, so i belive this game, while being the most mature one they have, is ranging for the 13+ community

Like it's worth spending time for making the game for kids.
Almost all the first graders in the Primary school knows every curse word, knows about killing, knows about sex.
So, not worth the time.

Lenofor -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 18:50:43)

Tell that to Artix not to me

Wootz -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 18:51:29)

:P I think he already knows that. We all live in this world.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: Rated M for mature (7/27/2011 19:15:09)

One of the fun elements of this game I remembered was actually seeing Hank for the first time. My first thought when I had seen him, I honestly thought he was a butcher. He had the kind of aura one would see in a world of struggle of how a butcher would look like. Oddly enough, I was close. Later we all found out, he is a baker.

This game can market it self for players who have grown out of their previous games and looking into more serious content.

It would be a nice contrast from AQW where their content is light-hearted in their stories, and Epic Duel would focus on serious events like Famine, Poverty, and Corruption.
