Share and discuss what you think the most underrated skills are.

Mine personally are Atom Smasher and Surgical Strike.

Bludgeon is the bomb o.o Did a 37 rage with it at lvl 1 and the guy had 30-36 defense and I had only 14-17 strength. Assimilation is useless against TLMs because they gain the same amount of energy that I take from them -____-

People put skill points in it, but the don't appreciate it.

There are many skills which are underated; some being Venom Strike, Reflex Boost, Shadow Arts, Assimilation, Super Charge, Atom Smasher, Blood Shield, Surgical Strike, Static Charge, etc.
The list goes on and it may be due to the fact that players like numbers. By that I mean, if you don't see a high amount of damage inflicted on your opponent, the skill may not be so useful.

This is a pattern in the skills I listed above, they are not all high-hitting skills. They all serve different purposes such as stealing mp, regaining mp or hp, boost your defenses/resistance, reduce rage, etc.

Take a look at Artillery Strike, Berserker, Massacre, Firebolt, Bunker Buster, etc. They are all considered good because they deal high damage.
Which is why at this point in ED, there is no such thing as being solely defensive, you are either offensive or a hybrid.

I do think Surgical Strike is one of the most underated skills. I see so many Mercs and Tactical Mercs pass it up, but I like to include it in almost all of my Merc builds. Being able to delay someones rage is a huge strategic advantage and you can take advantage of that with only a single skill point.

Totally agree with you, Celest. It's the non-damage skills that are often overlooked. A lot of players take strategic play for granted and just try to get the quickest battles they can, but throughout the history of ED, the best builds have always been those using their defensive skills to their advantage. Strength builds never had the win percents that defensive and support builds did.

@Ashari: True at that. But, even when you say defensive and support builds have better percentages... I'm always liked more on going with full offence for reasons unknown. (I do use defense if I feel it improves my playing, but my style is being offensive) I do very well.

Of course, people tend to consider me as a huge strategic person (shown very well in chess), and a very quick thinker.

I'd say it's not correct to say it's just simply support and defense > str for percentages, but instead:

Well-created not archetype builds > copy&paste builds. :D

I'd say that Surgical Strike is definitely underrated. It's great for delaying their rage or for a sure 20 damage, if they have 18 health and high defenses my gun or aux may not kill them but I know that surgical strike will.

Adding on to what Celestine, Ashari, and Baron were saying:
I think that skills like EMP or Atom Smasher aren't as much underrated as they are just limited in usefulness. Not to mention that against a high damage output build that doesn't require the use of energy to do high damage (str build) using one of your turns to steal energy instead of doing precious damage can put you so far behind that you can't catch up.

Strategy builds do work great for overall win rate, but there seems to always be some build that completely annihilates it. I have run into this a lot. I'll use a build that works great against most builds, but just cannot do anything to beat a str abuse build, which makes it seem less useful since there are some un-winnable battles.

Plasma Bolt. Has A Fast Recharge and High Damage Output. Coupled with Reroute and a Decent MALF You Can Tear People Down If you good enough that is ;

I'm actually quite surprised not many upper-level mages use Plasma Bolt .

^ You're definitely right about Double Strike. It amazed me how many Merc strength builds don't use it. It's super cheap, effective and only a 1 turn cooldown.

Energy shield is quite underrated, when I was a str tech Mage it destroyed me. I regret when I was a str Mage also not to use defense matrix, with only 32 support it gives 20 defense at lvl 4

@zean zapple-- dude, no way on the EMP greanade, that guy saves me so much in Jugg battles [8D]

as for most underated, I can't really speak for any other class, but for bounty hunters, I'm going to have to say Cheep Shot, has awsome powers, ignores def, chance to crit, and is a teir 1 skill to boot
