With the increase in members and member activity, would adding an automatic post merger for double posts be feasible for the forums? Something like what vBulletin and iP.Board forums have.

I'm not familiar with the technical feasibility of a post merger but there are certain boards that permit double posting, like Legends and Lore, so this would have to be on a board basis if it were to be implemented.

At the moment, double posting doesn't really present that major of a problem. Boards are equipped with ArchKnights to deal with it when it occurs and dealing with it really is a simple matter. Manual handling of double posts also has its own benefits. Removing the existence of double posts underlies removing the rule against double posting itself but if you're double posting, you either haven't read the rules or you've forgotten them. And in that situation, the person can probably do with a nudge in the direction of the rules. Rather than automating their upkeep, leaving enforcement of the rules in the hands of board ArchKnights provides said AKs with the option of reminding people about them.

It is possible. The EDReborn forum has this feature(it only works if the posts are within an hour of each other, but that can be adjusted)

@Stray Cat: Generally modifications such as this work within a timeframe as Zean Zapple pointed out. Also, as far as I'm aware these can be board specific. Why create more unnecesary work for AKs when a modification can easily do away with this problem? You do have a point that warnings serve as a reminder and so forth but a lot of forumites tend to neglect the rules and get into off-topic nonsense, look at AQ Suggestions... it's one of the prime examples of forumites posting useless crap in some topics. The automation of merging double posts could also send a forumite a PM reminding them that it is against the rules to double post and only few forums allow it.
