I'm noticing a lot of decent points that should be brought to the dev team's attention, but in a forum as busy as this one, such threads could easily fall to the second page or lower. There's also a degree of caution that has to take place with discussions like this, since while most of our users can handle themselves well, there's always a few rotten apples who want to spoil it for the rest of you.

As such, I'm making this thread to allow you a place to express your thoughts to the development team. It'll be harder for us to lose track of a big tagged thread, and we'll be able to keep the handful of bad poster from ruining your discussions much more easily this way. Feel free to post your thoughts on how the team might be able to improve their update speeds, or get things done in a more efficient fashion.

Remember to be constructive and to be respectful of each other's viewpoints.



The only stipulation here is this: none of those "just hire more people" posts. The reasons....
1) No team in AE needs to be told when to hire more people, we're all aware of our individual teams' own development crunches.
2) The process is much more involved than people seem to think it is, it's not as easy as "just pick some people and give them enough access to the game to be able to break it and ruin all of your hard work" and I doubt you want the team just picking people without the proper analysis.

EpicDuel itself is quite a fun game at it's early stages. There are always new contents being added, but I feel the devs should not be posting around what time they will release these new contents. I feel they could also be more upfront with us. I respect their tenacity, after all, they did stay up for quite a long time trying to get the release ready. But what I did not understand was why there was such a huge gap between their Twitter posts. Despite the fact that they are working hard to release, a couple of minutes used to Tweet isn't that hard. I'm sure the players would rather stall the release for a couple of minutes and know about it then rather stay up for 4 hours thinking the release is soon. Also, if they could not get the release ready by 8 pm EST, they should tell the players that and try again the next day. This way would be much more efficient due to the fact players won't have to wake up at 3 am in the morning and neither to the devs. Of course people will be mad, but atleast they were given prior information about it.

I have an idea for the devs. Based purely on an assumption (If i'm wrong however you can disregaurd this idea but it might still be worth considering)

Well my asumption is, like me, You guys might put things off a bit longer and longer until eventuly the update is almost here and you don't have enought time to complete.

What I found useful to fix this problem would be to write a whole list of what should be comleted in ONE DAY, and the days requirments must be reached as long as thier is no specific problems (eg. flash crashes) and the next day repeat so you never end up wasting the whole start of the week only to really start working until the second half, making it become stressful and full of late nights. (sound farmiliar??)

I got this assumption from this weeks update. They said it would be released last week. Then somehow it get delyaed agian when their given anoher whole week. One would assume that the first half of the week must of been less productive if their was to be a further delay to the due date.

Anyway thats my idea, I hope it helps you as much as it helps me

Hire an additional programmer at some point in time to help guarantee ACTUAL "Releases" every other week.

If only the community could....

Stop pointing fingers at everyone else instead of themselves.

"Oh but I stayed up all night for this release" Whose fault is that? They stated they were having issues.

Pay more attention to varium players, and add more varium players perks that cost credits.
More suggestion items round and more player/mod interaction in forums and/or in-game.
More appreciation for players and more features and improvements for factions and tournament with awesome prizes.
A free style to express their feelings in forums, not flaming but posting ideas than need to be develop between players.
And my last suggestion, no more delays, I have been waiting patient and haven't flamed but I have been waiting to long and I will appreciate that no more updates were delayed. Thank you!

well.....what we do with development projects is use a "resource loaded schedule"....this lets you know that if you haven't met necessary milestones.....like..."we finished this many lines of code on schedule"....you aren't going to make your release.....seems there needs to be better planning/tracking on the development side....so as to not constantly disappoint their user base

Player Side: We anticipate release times based on prior releases and attempt to schedule our lives around those times. LQS and LQ Items promote this type of behavior. Incorrect guessing and delayed releases cause scheduling confusion in players lives and adds a level of frustration which is likely preventable.

Game Side: Developers and testers are working long hours to repair game features and test new features prior to launch. Unforeseen issues always occur including issues outside the developers sphere of control (Adobe) which delay release times/dates.

Proposed solution is more frequent but less specific release information released in several places for maximum exposure. Designate one person to hourly post to the forum in a fixed, permanent, closed forum thread and to a single twitter account not attached to a game developer. Announce the release date only initially in the DN as usual. Post in the closed forum thread and twitter account only on the day of the proposed release. Hourly release information about where the release is and the odds of its release on schedule/late/not at all that day. Never give a time for the release until 1 hour prior to the release time and be sure the release is absolutely going to be released at that time.

The thinking behind this is to prevent players from holding the staff to a fixed timetable, to allow the staff to frequently shift their timetable without apologizing for missing a promised timeline, allow players to obtain frequent updates on launch progress and get a sense for when things are going well or going slowly. If testers were working hard all night, why not tell players all night. Let the players suffer along with the testers. Empathy will breed patience and comradery.

Ever heard the story "The boy who cried wolf"? Well if you have you will understand this, although it wasn't the developers fault when adobe's flash player caused all these current problems it is their fault they are being blamed for it. You can only "cry wolf", in this case delay promised updates so many times b4 the community doesn't believe you when you have a legitimate excuse on why it's being delayed. So to simplify my metaphor the developers is the boy and adobe is the wolf.


Keep in mind this is not a flame just clarification on why the community is in a uproar on said issues.

Get a back bone & ask for help. This game sure as hell needs it.
This game is going downhill, yet non of the Dev's see it. This game needs help.

Seriously all you guys from the other games in the "underground Lab" don't see what's happening to this game?
There's no harm in asking for help or even asking the ED Team if they need help.

I totally agree with Sparticus here and to add to what he said so nicely, I think we need more information on LQS restocks when they happen without a server restart. An ADMIN notice would be nice...I know people would probably rush to them, but at least, we would be informed correctly for once.

Many players are angry, yes I get that, but try and step into their shoes.
It isn't just work on updates and content, they may also be working on account issues, bugs, etc.
Let alone the whole Adobe Flash issue. They also have families too, they aren't robots ya' know.

Communication is also a problem, mainly on their side. I'd like to know, and I know many of us would, how they are progressing on a release.
Posting the day of the release about what is going to happen is inconvenient for the players.

I'm in no position to ask this, but I would like to see better communication skills and management from the devs and better understanding from the players.

I agree with all these points, but let me make something clear. If they release today, it won't make anything better, they will just do it again as they have for the past year. The developers need to come out and apologize to their community, and get on the ball. They need absolutely crystal clear communication, they need pristine timing, and they need a good content:time ratio. However, week, after week they disappoint us. How would you feel if you were told you were going to get a package in the mail, and the UPS tracker kept delaying, but saying "almost here", and you waited by your door for an extremely long time. Finally the UPS guy shows up, and told you..."Sorry, but your package will be coming tomorrow, I was just too tired to pack it." Now imagine that happening every week.

The developers really need to come out of their shells and let the community in on what is going on, because this is absolutely unacceptable.


Also, LB, I think a more appropriate name for this thread would be "If the Devs Would...", because I'm pretty sure they can do all of this and are just choosing not to.

Seriously though, i appreciate them posting timings, because the timings at least, if taken as a rough guideline, are correct 99% of the time. And it is worth it to know when to expect items/first to excitement/etc. I still think it is worth it, even if in that 1% they are wrong by a large amount due to unexpected circumstances. The problem that has been bugging them has been sorted, but bugs in the new release have to be expected, and with a lot of their time devoted to the major problem of adobe flash player problems, bugs in the actual release will have had less chance to be addressed. I appreciate their time, if only the devs could sort out all my wishes to do with the game (make the release release now, give me amazing and free items for being me, sort out (or at least see) balancing problems), the list can be almost endless, as is the demand from eeryone who plays this game on the devs. I appreciate all the manic time and effort (a hyperactive friday continuing into a hyperactive sunday) the devs put in the game, and only wish they were superhuman enough to sort out everything i desire at the time. But seen as that is quite difficult, ill just stick to appreciating every release that happens. Just giving another two of my cents.

(with the amount of cents I end up giving in an average day, someone following me could put their children through college. Just saying, i have many opinions and are not afraid to express them, no matter how correct or incorrect they may be. Do not take everything I say as true and inarguable fact. Enjoy your gaming experience!)

I like this. Communication is key. It will hopefully prevent people from complaining, and talking about everything negative they can possibly talk about.
