So, I would like to start by asking what makes you want to join a faction. Why do you want to create one? why do you feel the need to be a part of one? As of now all a faction represents is a tag below your name in-game. As far as depth, no matter how long I look I just can't see it.

I feel that epicduel has a weak in-game community, which should be the life blood of any multiplayer game. The moment I finished the steps of character creation and clicked 1v1 for the first time I noticed how bleak the community is. Two or three sentences may be exchanged during a battle, and thats on a good day.
So! I decided I would strive to find where the ''true'' community feel is. My first Idea was ''Maybe it's in clans like most games?'' However, I was so very wrong...

First off. There is no need to even speak to clan mates. The only goal a faction has is to...you guessed it! Battle! Oh, and donate tokens from your solo battles to a flag that you will probably never capture. If you do capture the flag, you don't even feel a sense of accomplishment.
On the other hand if you don't enjoy soloing and donating tokens to a pointless flag you could instead spend your money to click a button for war kills.

What epicduel really needs is community, conversation, and enjoyable goals for players.
One of the best ways I see to bring these things to light, would be Faction Vs Faction battles. This would give a sense of ''Team''. People would join together and have true goals they could share with other players. We would actually find out what factions are best, and we would all know the names behind them.
Whats the point of a faction if not to compete against others?
ED has already developed the 2v2. I don't see it being difficult to introduce 2v2 faction battles. To keep things fair, it would be best to make this a totally different battle pool then the normal 2v2. Everyone knows two experienced players in a team would dominate in normal 2v2. However if it's only against other faction teams, then we are all on even ground.

Thoughts, Flames, Ideas?
Shoot!

I wouldn't ask for flaming; you should be more careful what you wish for. Probably. [;)] ~eVentus

EDIT Here it is.

If I ever wanted to join a faction, it would be because I wanted fame and recognition. My first faction was Alpha Dogs(?) founded by Alpha Testa. He was level cap but apparently he was busy or bored and became afk. Another member and I conspired to leave and start our own faction [8D] (how epic). I'm crying here trying to remember its name... Anyways I was varium he was f2p I bought and founded the faction he was co-leader and helped organize flags, messages, and win battles. We got up to Coalition I believe. You know what our main goal was? To rise above as Exiles and prove that being the good guys is, if not, the same amount of fun as being a villain. I became afk first I'll admit. Later the co-leader became afk for a month +. I disbanded when I felt the faction was broken.

Later on I created a new one which I have today known as Disciples of the Void. No we are not religious in the sense that we act like a cult. Members still have to drink the purple kool-aid though. Why did I do it? I appreciate Final Fantasy but more specifically Kingdom Hearts' nobodies. We are those forgotten people sharing the similar trait. Every member I've asked if they sometimes feel empty inside. I want to be part of a faction a bit because of community and having a common trait. Every member of a certain faction usually has something in common. Its just a family sort of feel when you communicate.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 21:54:42)

I made a Faction to train noobs even though i started as a noob I have this natural ability to be a stratigest(it might have something to do with writing a report on Sun Tzu's Art of War) so i learned this game very fast and passed the knowledge onto others and still do to this day

Joe10112 -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 22:06:11)

I'm very selfish. First things I ask:

World Dominations?
Flag Captures?

If you have one of the above (like, current WD or current FC), I'll join. If not, next.

revenn -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 22:15:48)

@joe10112

See thats about as much depth as current factions can offer. Jump from the losing ones, to the winning ones. Because at the end of the day it's all the same boring garbage. Out of the factions you join, you probably don't even get to know the staff before hopping to another one out of even more boredom. We need competition. This is a PvP game. So where is the faction PvP?

AQWPlayer -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 22:38:47)

I join a faction because I want to battle for a purpose, not just battle over and over again pointlessly.

Luna_moonraider -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 22:58:11)

well i joined faction to be closer with friend and to work together with friend to win something(eg 2v2 wd ect).

well since in the topic of factions a 2v2/juggernaut faction will find it hard to win world domination without doing 1v1. while a 1v1 faction can just easily do 1v1 and enjoy making their 1v1 rate higher. for a 2v2er or a jugger it would feel weird and it would be a waste of time for them to do 1v1 when it does not even help them in improving their 2v2 or jug records.

some people like 1v1 faction some people prefer 2v2 and well little prefer juggernaut but there are still juggernaut faction but sadly they are not noticed. well i prefer 2v2 because it 1) we can chat with 3 other players. 2) 2v2 is fun(well fun if the battle is balance but u rarely get that now a days so Nvm). 3) 2v2 gives gr8 credits and tokens( this help non vars and the tokens help my faction).

Sad part bout being a 2v2 and a juggernaut faction is the influence gain yes this has been brought many many times in loads of different threads but the devs are choosing to ignore the complains. i m just too lazy to do the calculation again so just click here if u wanna see what i mean by unfair influence gain.

Also juggernaut faction do not even have a system to calculate their total jug wins and there is no medal for the faction to win if the have the most jug wins on for the day. good thing about jug is there is no chance u can every meet a faction mate in jug mode( well unless the fella presses 2v2). more bout unfairness of jug faction in this tread here so u can just click here for more info.

As mentioned above u can never meet your faction mate in jug mode if every single faction member is doing jug and jug only. but this is a different case for 2v2 and 1v1. Do u find it very annoying when your are battling your faction mate? i certainly find it annoying to a certain extend.in 1v1 u still get 1 win. while in 2v2 well the side with the better partner will win and still 1 win for the faction. In 2v2 there is a button call refresh or change servers,well in all modes there is a button called refresh or change server but these button are use more often in 2v2. eg the match up is like this X+Y vs Z+ T. if players X and Z are in the same faction either player X or Z will hmm lets say "accidentally" disconnect kinda annoying huh but it happens almost everyday because players X and Z want to make things fast. it i worse if player T is from the faction on which is either 1st or 2nd and players X and Z are from the faction which is either 1st or 2nd. Player Z will automatically disconnect. This has got to stop because it is like cheating the devs should make a filter preventing faction mates from vsing each other.

summary

well there alot of things which are not right in the faction system the devs should get to fixing them as soon as possible. here are the points again:

1)Influence gain by 2v2 and jug should be increased.
2)jug faction should have the same benefits as 1v1 and 2v2 faction.
3)the devs should make a filter to prevent faction mate from vsing each other.

well that all gonna add the links and have a nice day. Luna out.

edwardvulture -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 23:11:33)

I made mine faction for free players to work together to try to win 1 vs.1 or 2 vs.2 badges. Right now its in the baby stages. PM if your interested.

Death Gigas -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 23:18:32)

As you said, factions barely communicate. My faction does a lot of communication, I mainly talk to the founder or the officers. The members won't talk to me, so no need to try a conversation. Some factions will communicate with each other, some are only around just to win 1v1, 2v2, World Domination, or capture a flag. The factions that only wants titles barely communicates. If a factions around for fun and competition, they'll communicate. It's a rare occasion to join a faction that communicates. I'll never join a faction that won't talk to me. I'll get bored of it and leave.

When you mentioned about what makes people want to start a faction, well I started a faction back in October 2010, some people; like me, starts factions just to have fun, while some wants to start a faction just to be mean and boss everyone around. My faction I made last October was Still StAnDiNg, we captured a flag in November, we got a World Domination on April 1, 2011. But I disbanded in May, I disbanded at 1,400+ Flag Captures and 1 World Domination, we would've had 3 World Dominations, but Legion won the daily war them 2 days. I started my faction just to have fun and be competitive, I always talked to my members, I may have been there too have fun, but I had rules and I enforced them. It's a fun experience having a faction, I enjoyed it while it lasted, when I disbanded, I couldn't believe I actually disbanded, but if my faction goes really inactive. That faction will return.

Luna_moonraider -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 23:49:40)

lolz i some how remembered a plan to take down dsx(death syndicate X). well 3 faction of exile side discussed about taking down 3 of dsx flags well dsx had 3 flags at that time and winning loads of wd. lolz sadly the plan was not initiated because the dsx some how stopped and when inactive. but all the 3 faction were ready to atk dsx's flags. would be nice to see how dsx would react to the atk XD. ok now back to topic: well it was fun and gr8 that 3 different faction can put away their differences and work together to bring down a faction. just wish that we could work with other factions of the same side to bring down faction from the other side instead of each faction for themselves. group war or something where 3 faction fight against 3 other faction which is from the other alignment would be nice and would bring spice into the dull and tasteless faction war.

Nehal007 -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/4/2011 23:52:22)

I made a faction in which evryone is invited....bt they must be active

Basicball -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 0:23:26)

the communty is at oz world 6 epic server btw

Death Gigas -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 4:08:16)

@Luna: That alliance was named Totalitarian Rulers. It consisted of, Legit, Still StAnDiNg, Truly Clutch, and The Girls Of Buffy. I was an officer of Still StAnDiNg at the time, but we later left the alliance. It was 3 Exile factions and 1 Legion faction. That alliance failed, big time!

GoldenNeo -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 9:54:54)

Well apparently, I really really wanted to join 'The Dixie Chicks' since I was a noob.. because it's the only top clan I see as active.. I wanted to join DSX also, but eh, I aint that good at 1v1 and they're not that active anymore, I saw one officer active like '132 days ago' and I was like.. "Wtf happened to this clan? o.e".. And then after that I got on to the Dixie, but I got kicked, re-joined by New Hope, then got kicked again.. I probably lasted like.. 2-5 days on that clan.. Wasn't my fault that I got school, (reason of being unactive)... but gladly, I joined the Xx SuPErIorsssS xX, which is really my kind of clan... good the Merc King Sid understands that I need to be offline for school, and now, I'm with the clan for less than a month, but I'm still not getting kicked.. I'm planning on never leaving this clan, until I become an officer and until I see my name on the All Time 2v2 Leaderboards... Then after I joined the clan, I met the founder, who was really nice. Even tough it isn't much active atm, I still believe we can get the 1st place on the All Time 2v2 Faction Leaderboards.
And btw, I really felt good, when I defeated Morrigan on 2v2. We we're the last ones standing that time.. the battle didn't take that long.. but I got shrunked like 2x.. I think. XD
It really feels food. So yeah..

MirageD -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 10:47:43)

i think factions are a great way to make longtime friends and work towards common goals as a team....i have been lucky enough to be a part of great groups of ppl.....unfortunately, sometimes .....there can be some bullying when you are involved in a competitive faction and you don't have enough time to play....but there are always non-competitive factions available to just have time to be with friends....i think factions are great :) i am proud to have been a part of the factions that i have been in :)

Wraith -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 13:52:00)

Though my faction is very incompetitive, I still feel loyal toward it, as a result of staying it for most of the time I have played.

I do look for competitive factions, but I do have second thoughts about joining another faction.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 14:09:45)

Faction support has many layers of possible interest and motivation. The faction system/ war needs a overhaul. The decisions that were made to alter faction wars have not been exciting. There are less people today who wish to invest an abundance amount of time into a system that can easily be swayed by money or perks.

Though Eternal Paradise faction is passive, I feel our faction, once the system shows improvement can compete with the most recognized in the game as it always has. And this doesn't mean wins per hour, I am speaking challenge vs challenge battles. There are many factions like Super Freaks United, Renegade Masters and others who have quality personnel, but they do not wish to invest constant time for a broken system. Undermining quality for speed is very easy, and sadly it is rewarded in every aspect.

I am proud of every player who entered our faction. The focus is on the individual goals over team goals. This means players can invest in themselves and their own achievements. Competitive chore factions sacrifice this aspect, and if that player leaves, they will only have a possibility of 2 achievements. Everything thing else will remain in the faction domain and most of the glory will fall with the Founder of the faction.

Celestine -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 16:29:32)

Even back in Beta up until now, most players will search for a faction that they see on the leader boards very often. It's human nature, winning equals success. Even I'll admit the faction that I am in now was the cause of me wanting a successful faction. I've come to realize success comes in many different ways.

It is not solely based on how many medals you've earned, how many wins you can get in a day, and how many flags you've captured. It's about having fun leading to that point. Which is exactly what my faction has done and that is why we no longer feel we must win every week or every month. One medal means as much as having 70 medals.

A faction will mean as much to you as you and your faction members make it. I definitely agree that adding an incentive to factions will help in communication and overall make a faction....a faction.

Elf Priest JZaanu -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 17:38:59)

In regard to faction selection, one must decide what they want in a faction first. Do you wish to have community or competitiveness? Community factions are able to communicate better and have a wonderful experience with their fellow faction-mates. There will be less conflict and more communal care. Competitive factions are the one's that succeed or fail based on wins. There have been many fabulous factions of players, but once the winning stopped, there was nothing of substance to hold that faction together, in-turn, they disbanded. How ever you wish to enjoy the game make sure you find a faction that fits your needs over your wants.

MirageD -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 17:48:04)

i think it is possible to have a community based faction as well as a competitive one...but it takes a lot of work....they are few and far between....all must be supportive of the ultimate goal (and that should be a community of friends)...and....i think if its possible to create such a faction it would ultimately be the most successful

a faction that provides both, friendship and challenge would be great....everyone contributes to competitive events, when able...but no one is dished for not being available at the time....what a concept...hehe

but i do understand that when competition is most important.....well...it's at the cost of individuals

revenn -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/5/2011 19:19:23)

@basicball And thats the thing. Do you think a new player joining the game knows the one place to look for that mediocre community? The answer is ''no''. Most will play for a few days, maybe even weeks looking for a community that happens to be hiding at an npc on a select world. Some don't even understand the game good enough to switch worlds and find it. So, they will instead quit and move on to another game that is more community based. I see it as the person right after character creation should be communicating. They should be receiving help from more experienced players, and competing with the other less experienced.

@JZaanu

I agree with your views almost to the fullest. It seems you see things like I do, for what they actually are. Clans should be competing clan vs clan. This would make it possible to be at the top based off skill instead of time spent. Quality over quantity. This would make the faction so deep that it would end up being a major draw for all ED players. People who have quit would return to play again. Even people who work and go to school could be just as competitive. The core point of ED seeing as it is completely PvP based, is of course to master the PvP system. I assure you the clan leaderboards would change if this were to take effect. The top factions now are simply the people with the most time on hand. Which I and many others just don't have.

These are the Pros of the change towards clan vs clan PvP:

More experienced players will return. This means more Varium bought. More funds to hire ED Staff, and continue to grow. Not to mention more factions would be created, and factions cost varium to create. Although I would eventually add a credit option.
Other avenues for items introduced. Such as PvP items that play off one another. More or less only effective for faction vs faction battles.
The pool of builds would change drasticly. People would come up with new interesting builds that are made to boost the effectiveness of the counterpart.
The community would Erupt. It would be 100% required to communicate with one another, when that very person could be fighting beside you constantly. People would communicate for builds and strategy. People would communicate to set up Faction vs Faction battles & the rules and caps placed on that battle.
Leaders of factions would actually be able to lead from the frontlines. They would know every member due to this.
Officers of factions would actually have a purpose other than recruiting. They would lead skirmishes, devise strategies with the leader and the other officers in more of a council based way.
These very forums would explode with even more activity and new faces.
The list goes on......

MrBones -> RE: The Faction Attraction (9/6/2011 17:14:55)

I used to be in faction to compete.

Now i am semi retired and I am in a faction because of friends.

For now, factions doesnt mean much anyway. Let's see what the future brings
