tigura -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 0:47:43)

Actually, I'm more arrogant in the game than IRL lol... I guess it's different for everyone.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 1:08:20)

@Tigura: most people are far more arrogant online than anywhere else in their life.

Joe10112 -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 1:13:00)

If I sat across from them in a duel, they would not be arrogant. I'm huge!

Okay, jokes aside,

Probably. Face to face is different. Like, from a distance, it's totally easy to say something like "Asking that girl out? Easy". But when you get there, it's really hard.

Shao Kahn -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 1:13:06)

Due to the fact I've managed to burn through a couple hundred on varium and still suck, I pretty much act grateful whenever I can ever win at all against other people. In short I try to act respectful whenever playing. If some is to tell me not to heal I won't even though my build is really built for it, but it really does hurt when you follow their demands and then they screw you over with healing and such. Acting nice is just the nice thing to do online or not.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 19:45:33)

Just to note I am a very forgiving person in ED but if i showed that in RL i would get the snot kicked out of me so it is my true personality while RL is my mask so I the oposite of alot of ED

supermasivo -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 19:52:57)

i'm very arrogant too, i think that is not a problem here... i think real problem here are "insults"...
I can be very arrogant like "saying: Yes, i know im better" or "yes, i know my build rulz"... but insult is far away.
Anyway, i know i'm very very very good xDDDDDDDDD joke.

IsaiahtheMage -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 21:04:18)

Or maybe people act how they want to act in real life or act how they would in a fantasty. Because not everyone acts a certain way just because their behind a computer maybe their digital character reflects apart of their personality they dotn show in real life. Or sometimes some characters are just made to troll. Especially low level noobs who just march into yulgar or party on AQWorlds and just troll away.

Sparticus -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/12/2011 21:15:36)

People sit across from me all day, some are rich, some are not. Many have power and others have little. Some are younger and many others are older.

The way I treat them all is the exact same way I treat all of you and the way I act in game.

While I understand many people say they act different when they are online, I have learned long ago that that is more of an excuse and less of a truism.
Be mindful of others and have respect for yourself, no matter what name you choose to hide behind.

Shadronica -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/13/2011 16:12:30)

Well said Sparticus. I couldn't agree with you more in that statement.

To me the people who do hide behind their online identity shows they have little respect for themselves.

Be true to yourself and you will form genuine relationships and gain respect for who you are.

I also deal with people from all walks of life and I also treat them all exactly the same as I treat anyone online.

MirageD -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/13/2011 16:26:06)

shad & spart....i would have to agree....same goes for me....the only place i tend to get irritated in this game, is in these forums...but i would have to say...even when i get mad...i react just how i would in a face to face encounter ( i'm not terribly afraid of forum mods.....much to my disadvantage :( )

Fay Beeee -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/13/2011 16:30:39)

I also think we have two different words that are getting confused.

I happen to think that anonymity and privacy are different.

Anonymity gives you a chance to 'act out' in a fantasy game.
It is entirely up to you if you choose to 'abuse' this privilege and be nasty. Although I would hope that your genuine nature would show through.

Privacy to me, means exactly that, keeping my real life persona private.

Short explaination (I could have put much more)

Privacy, as the term is generally understood in the West, is not a universal concept and remained virtually unknown in some cultures until recent times. Most cultures, however, recognize certain forms of hidden or personal information that is not shared with wider society.

Anonymity is derived from the Greek word ἀνωνυμία, anonymia, meaning "without a name" or "namelessness". In colloquial use, anonymity typically refers to the state of an individual's personal identity, or personally identifiable information, being publicly unknown.

Not sure if I have got across what I am trying to say.
Hope so. No offence meant here.

Matgon -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/13/2011 19:40:03)

Obviously people are more arrogant ingame because they can get away with it. In game someone calls me a noob or w.e and I can't do anything. In real life no one calls me a noob and gets away with it, no one.

Also one of my theories is that "problematic players" ingame are this way because they are some kind of victim in their daily life, for example I'm a nice guy ingame for the most part and I am not saying I am a tough guy or anything, but everyone I know respect me fully.

@below: Thanks PD, dunno what is wrong with me o.e

PD -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/13/2011 19:43:48)

^^ Might wanna fix your grammar. You say people are more arrogant in game because they CAN'T get away with it. Should be can if they suffer reprimand for their actions.

And in response to cinderella's response to my response to this thread, I'll say that the system isn't totally idealistic, but it's more or less effective to the goal at hand.

LatinLover/Martini -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/13/2011 20:24:10)

I dont think Im arrogant (responds to comments farther up the page) .. I think I have a unique personality and Im definatly not like anyone else in the game.. ED's party girl? prob :3

mjhehn -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/15/2011 14:03:05)

I would say very few of the players on here would talk the same way to my face... And if they did, they might regret it.

I for one am very quiet on ED, other than occasional comments on my partners hits in team fights and the obligatory "GG".

So some might think I'm arrogant due to my silence, but I find the loud mouths really annoying...

Until I kill them with my Cyber.

9001WaysToLaugh -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/16/2011 14:07:43)

People do this so they can boost their self esteem without consequence. Now if they sat across from me... boosting their self esteem in that manner could cost them their dignity, causing more harm to their self image, than good.

DeathGuard -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/16/2011 15:49:06)

People since long time ago, has been searching in many ways, how they can get peace and their objetives are the same but the paths they go through are actually different. Is the same here, patient people and troller people search for the same objetive: the best for ED, but one path is the correct one, the one of being patient, is the hardest of the two but the one that will bring the objetive in its full potential.

nico0las -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 0:11:21)

I've learned there is no point trying to act as anyone on the game. You play to face other people. If you want to socialize, I suggest facebook. Just log in, win battles, speak rarely, log out. Very easy.
My personal belief on a person's identity over the internet is as follows: No one is good. Some are bad. Maybe they aren't mobsters, but no one is good.
Seeing as you don't need to be nice on the internet brings out the evil in someone. Blame it on whatever you want, but that's the way it is.
All those dark aspects are brought out. So, again, I suggest you don't even speak online, unless to a friend of yours.

Stabilis -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 0:26:20)

No consequences.
Abstract freedom.
Abstract law and justice.
Unclear identity and personalities.
Many potential targets and victims.
Few authority and people of good practice.
Golden rule does not apply here.
Only pleasure and entertainment.
There is no society, no order.

Seems like the Christian hell to me.

EDIT: Feels appropriate:

---(Note 1.5 second pause between each line)

Confiteor Deo Omnipotenti
Beatae Mariae semper Virgini
Beato Michaeli archangelo
Sanctis apostolis omnibus sanctis

Beata Maria
You know I am a righteous man
Of my virtue I am justly proud

Et tibit Pater

Beata Maria
You know I'm so much purer than
The common, vulgar, weak, licentious crowd

Quia peccavi nimis

Then tell me, Maria
Why I see her dancing there
Why her smold'ring eyes still scorch my soul

Cogitatione

I feel her, I see her
The sun caught in raven hair
Is blazing in me out of all control

Verbo et opere

Like fire
Hellfire
This fire in my skin
This burning
Desire
Is turning me to sin

It's not my fault

Mea culpa

I'm not to blame

Mea culpa

It is the gypsy girl
The witch who sent this flame

Mea maxima culpa

It's not my fault

Mea culpa

If in God's plan

Mea culpa

He made the devil so much
Stronger than a man

Mea maxima culpa

Protect me, Maria
Don't let this siren cast her spell
Don't let her fire sear my flesh and bone
Destroy Esmeralda
And let her taste the fires of hell
Or else let her be mine and mine alone

Hellfire
Dark fire
Now gypsy, it's your turn
Choose me or
Your pyre
Be mine or you will burn

Kyrie Eleison

God have mercy on her

Kyrie Eleison

God have mercy on me

Kyrie Eleison

But she will be mine
Or she will burn!

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 6:27:48)

God speaks latin ? ^^

MirageD -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 7:34:18)

^lol....i think He's multi-lingual [;)]

Basicball -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 8:23:45)

i think he doesn't exist, but let's get back on-topic :)

seeing as some guys play as girls, i'd say they act differently in-game

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 8:27:35)

but do they act like girls ?

I also don't think god exists but many do, so who really knows :)

Fay Beeee -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 8:40:53)

OK. I will open myself up here (not with information. lol)

But I expect you all know, I am a female playing as a female.
I do not feel the need just to be nasty because it is a fighting game.

I find the fighting competitive not vicious.

Most of the guys playing as females still act like guys imo.

There you go. :) Now pick that one to bits.
BUT
No flaming or trolling

Celestine -> RE: Peoples Personas (9/17/2011 20:30:13)

This will occur in most, if not all, multiplayer games. There are just no strong repercussions to prevent this. Your account may be banned, suspended, etc. but will any of these affect your state of being? Not likely. Immature players will take advantage of the anonymity the internet gives.

You see, I think of respect as an inalienable human right. When you are playing, you don't see a human being behind all these "pixels". Therefore, he/she deserves no respect. That is a sad way of thinking, but it is true in most of these cases.

I would just advise to anyone to simply ignore it.
