@Ubear: most strength builds are hard to play well and a lot of the time, if you go 2nd you got an uphill battle.
only mercs really have the ideal setup for a strength build but ideal and viable aren't the same thing.

im like you though, I could never get the hang of strength builds, but for bounty hunters.

It seems that people who defending STR Mage are just try it lately... or defending that ED staffs are doing right to make "creative" build or just try to troll other people that they can't make creative build.

The fact that STR Mage is just average, and average is nothing compare to other OP build those day. Mage gain nearly no benefit with STR compare to other classes

hard to tell what your point is. they ED staff HAVE made some major changes recently but hey, I wouldn't
want you to think I was just flapping my lips so I'll list some of the major changes and improvements.

3 new evolved classes.
lots of equipment for var/non var.
diminishing stats.
robot use.
removed defence ignore from artillery strike.
improved scaling for plasma rain and multi.
enhancement standard.
level scaling for certain skills.
change to percentage based dmg skills.
Juggernaut.
2v1 Boss battles.
Map Teleport.
New Central Station.
New Fortune City.
Old Fortune City.
Weapon requirements on mage skills.
ED Engine 2.0
Limited time/Quantity Items.
Mutating Weapons.
New hair styles.
Heromart Posters.
The adobe fiasco.
Many New Npcs.
reduced max block chance, improving value of shadowarts.
reduced crit damage and improved value of support.
Missions.
unplayed character pruning.
multiple security updates.
Interface changes.
Balance Team.
Player Suggestion Shop.

so what have you done in last 3-4 months thats impressive?

^I never said anything about what they did... I'm talking about Balance. I still find it's stupid when they make Poke allow Sword and people is all like "mage get better" "Mage is back". Just saying that mean they didn't use STR Mage at all in the past
Also about me? I know I did a lot of impress thing lol (I sure did... I dont' spend time to play game all day after all)

well mages never went away, they just didn't have the completely ridiculous heal loop build and also I haven't read a single post that
said mages are now amazing due to bludgeon now being usable with sword. the topic is about more people using strength builds on mage
and that is very true, plus their are now so many more plasma rain/multi builds because of the scaling fix. many of the changes in that
list effected balance. to me it looks like we are only a few changes away from greatness. support, tac mercs and blood mages.

and Ive been using different builds since I levelled my mage, 4 focus strength build can work even before the last update but too many
judge their build by how well it does against unbalanced builds, and thats a terrible way to judge it.

And I said you can look at this topic and the DN when Mage was updated
I pointed out that STR Mage doesn't get any improvement with that Update, I don't know where did Mage go, but surely it hasn't come back

it wasn't a big difference but now mages who only use swords, like those who class changed to mage, can use bludgeon, which in turn allows them another option in a strength build.

so Yes their was a change in the DN, regardless of how small it was.

you say strength doesn't benefit mages like the other classes but I don't think thats entirely true.

assimilate and malfunction do the same damage as strike, which uses strength, bludgeon does 28% more damage on strike at level 1 and is physical.
deadly aim increases the damage from gun, which is also a strength based attack. and ofc just regular strike. I concede they don't have a big hitting
skill that scales with strength, but mages aren't a fast kill class anyway yet they hold their own, strength build is no different. they will never have a
fast kill strength build thats effective, but they can have a more balanced build with high strength and that definitely is viable. I enjoy it too.

Why Mage don't use STR:
Support give more on Maf than STR
DA increase Gun damage, which with low Support will get a lot of deflection
Mage has no DEFENSE PASSIVE so they must cast it, which on STR Build, casting is always waste you huge advance because you won't hit

And by STR build I always mean Balance Build with STR, no Mage use high STR...
I used STR Mage for almost 2 years (since I like it) I don't say it's weak. It's balanced, but never can surpass anything powerful these day. That's why I say people who say good stuff about STR on DN thread and this mostly just leech on the Update reason while rarely used STR Mage for a long time.

Mage gain no benefit from this update beside class change and with Energy Sword... which...sigh I won't call and improvement in balancing but whatever

deadly aim has a high support requirement, meaning your gonna have 42 support with max DA plus any extra from your stat modifiers on items so malfunction will be fine.

bounty hunters don't have hybrid armour either and do fine. they do have blood lust, but mages have reroute so they could afford to buff with defence matrix or technician if forced to.

the guy who made the topic never mentioned the update. he just said he has seen more strength mages recently, and I have too.

so your saying the build is balanced but doesn't compare to the OP builds...isn't that the whole point? those OP build aren't OP if all other builds are equal to them.

use DA with Support build (the super common Support Mage) will be a lot better than with STR

The problem that we must use reround and then cast defense skill, which take a turn, then heal (most likely) which take another turn (and won't heal much with such support). So on that wasted turn, enemy, especially STR build will damage you horribly.

like I said, you have enough support from requirements and stat modifiers. if I used the current items on my mage for a str build, id have 38+18 [56]
I can only use level 8 DA because I use charfades blaster but when I change my items to the new ones I bought just for a strength build id have 42+13 [55]

thats more than enough support to not be deflected regularly, except against support builds, which makes sense.

if you go first you won't use matrix/technician and if your 2nd you might or you might not, which is the same problem they will have.
your saying str builds will damage you horribly, but I think you really mean mercs who have hybrid armour, which I believe is a completely ridiculous skill to have in the game at all.
most str mercs have lower resistance than normal and you would have malfunction to take advantage of that, so your gonna be doing impressive damage too.

That's just decent Support. As I test around Support Mage still use DA better than STR so it's not really that exciting.
About the build, STR Mage is ok, mean can be used. It's still weaker than Support Build and Robot Build, idk about Caster and Charge Build. I only lose to Charge build if they block (possible with more Dex)

About the Defend, remember that we must cast it, which take turn while enemy build a lot of Rage in the mean time and they hit a lot of damage already. The amount of damage your Mage can do with maf and Defend won't surpass their Damage (especially with other STR build) since they hit more, have more STR (they have less requirement) and rage faster.
Defend on other STR build are a lot better with SA and smoke which block and HA (which is stupidly strong skill) and BL (work effective against such poor STR build like Mage's.
On the other hand, STR Mage won't work well against Tank as you can't ever do enough damage to kill them before they do 2nd Robot or even 3rd Robot and Robot is OP with 14 more damage than any other weapons. With lower Heal and Shield it's surely a disadvantage

So STR Mage fail agaist 2 most common build around while good against other (if they ever balance STR and Robot then...) it's just an decent and fun choice. Maybe there are more STR Mage around but I doubt if anyone stay with it

Well support mage and 5 focus bot build are the best, I agree nothing has changed in that regard.

you will have more than double support of your average strength build, so no guarantee they build rage faster.

well I think that after all that debate, we actually agree :) the build is fun, can work, but doesn't cut it against the OP builds and isn't as good as BH or Merc strength build.

Well i never seen a tech mage str but I have seen lots of Blood Mage str and i am one of them
130 str 74 hp decent dex around 80 :P!*cough*

And Done only need 2 turns to kill a player :)!

Coming back? Strenght mage was never an option... And im here from the beggining.

Im trying str mage now tho... Seems its a descent build. But if you dont like fighting npcs, dont bother switching.
