Stabilis -> Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 1:00:15)

Should we start working on ED to be more realistic? Do you think we can work on balance by using this approach? Yes? No?

If we worked on realism in ED these would be examples of change: Guns improve with tech or dex. Auxiliary improves with tech or dex. Intimidate improves with strength. Defense matrix improves with tech. Technician improves with energy. Overload improves with tech. Malfunction improves with tech. I'm not going to touch super charge because its broken. Smokescreen improves with support (because smokescreens are support/tactic devices, techy as they may be [helps with malfunction buffs as well]). Multi shot improves with tech. Reflex boost improves with energy. Stun grenade improves with support or tech.

Lets face it, ED can be messed up. Majority of our skills are products of technology... so why aren't most influenced by it (requires tech/improves with tech)? Also, why oh why is there MAGIC in ED? I thought this was scientific warfare with a touch of fiction and fantasy... NOT pure mythology in ways.

Lets have a momentous discussion of ED's current status against realistic measures.

drinde -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 1:06:08)

1. Shouldn't Intimidate be affected by HP? The larger you are, the more intimidating.

2. I feel like guns should improve through DEX, as in the term "Quick Draw".

3. Exactly why would Malfunction improve with TECH? SUPP is logical since you have technical support, but technology doesn't help you break a machine.

4. What magic?

Stabilis -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 1:33:17)

When I say malfunction improves with tech it is because as normal technology grows so do its glitches and hacks. But yes malfunctions can come from a support unit administering the bugs.

When I say magic I mean using your energy for spiritual abilities (firing a bolt of plasma from your hand) such as plasma bolt as it is nearly impossible for humans regardless of exposure to "varium" to control and manifest levels of plasma in the body.

The brain can't monitor plasma so it is very unlikely to be casting it freely from your actions. Do you understand where I'm coming from?

drinde -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 2:04:17)

Then maybe when we play the TechMage class, we are actually the energy controlling a human body to act as a channel to flow out from? I don't see where we channel plasma through our palm though. 'Sides the battle icon, we launch it through our Staffs.

Algorithm -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 3:44:43)

Nope.

Wootz -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 5:49:09)

Someone uses Surgical Strike and marks a circle around your character.
Why don't you just move out of it?
Someone uses multi, why can't you just move 'cause you see it when it is moving towards you.
Why don't the torches and chainsaw like weapons cut you open and/or burn you to death?

Xendran -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 6:42:43)

Why are the guns the size of your thigh?

goldslayer1 -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 6:44:35)

@xendran
they must be 50 calibers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEi_m5jqak0
its pretty huge

Midnightsoul -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 11:58:19)

with this kind of discussion, this game needs to be more like a board game. so, everything is the same except we can now move around and have action points to see how many spaces we move (improved by technology or dexterity) and u get 3 times the amount with a bike. i think the game would be more fun like that. this can actually lead group vs group battles. ;D

The Death Trap -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 13:17:13)

Uhh not really Since its a future based game

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 14:44:58)

the game is set on an entirely different planet, considering the current constraints on space travel for the human race, I'd say their is a possibility we evolved,
and now can handle the effects of varium, like we can with radiation [yes we can handle a lot of radiation contrary to popular belief]

nico0las -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 16:38:52)

ED? Realistic? That's like taking dragons out of dragonfable.
@below Exactly.

AQWPlayer -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 17:40:26)

^
Or taking mechas out of MechQuest lolz

ND Mallet -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 18:09:07)

What makes sense the least to me is the fact that EpicDuel takes place on a distant planet yet it still has people from Earth talking about how unrealistic it is. How does that work even? It's so far away from us we shouldn't know it exists let alone complain about its physics.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:04:24)

Girls can fire bazookas as accurately as men? no way you will ever get realism on ED.
most women can't even fire a handgun without smacking themselves in the face....just saying

Stabilis -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:07:50)

I heard people talking about handling "varium" radiation, relating DF to ED and MQ to ED...

Even if the body can handle a "lot" of radiation how long until we get cancer? Boom.

I'm sorry ED doesn't have dragons or goblins and other assorted ugly creatures unfortunately [:(]. Plus no, hazards aren't ugly they just need some tlc.

And MQ, you say it is not realistic? Gundam suits are not too far away!

EDIT: Wow psi that was insensitively sexist. Now you've gone and made some random girl cry.

Aere -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:11:30)

Why do we respawn after death.

Stabilis -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:14:00)

So we can be entertained!

Aere -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:19:31)

That's not realistic. Even if we were only knocked unconscious, I think the brain damage that would occur over time would surely put our characters out of commission.

Retrosaur -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:30:01)

That was sexist. Just saying. You should watch your mouth kid.

Also.

quote:

Tell that to the Japanese. Tell that to those guys over at Fukushima. Tell that to Pennsylvania's Three-Mile Island incident. Tell them that we "can handle a lot of radiation".

Here to further prove my point that we have brash and arrogant forumers:

Stabilis -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:30:36)

@Aere,

That would be extremism! I want to still be playing even when all of my particles become dark matter.

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:35:06)

@Greenrain: can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs [or a borderline sexist joke without insulting a feminist]

we are exposed to radiation everyday. no idea how long Delta V's inhabitants have been exposed to varium, or how similar it is to radiation. just saying it is
not out of the realm of possibility that humans evolved to be able to somehow get energy from varium and channel it, similar to how we do now with food.

its not like their are any hot dog vendors

Retrosaur -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 19:36:53)

This is a sci-fi game for a reason. End of argument.

quote:

we are exposed to radiation everyday.

Yup, that's right. We're exposed to UV radiation daily which is deadly to the skin and can cause melanoma or skin cancer. Also we're exposed to many radio waves and many other waves from the various electronics that may also cause brain damage as stated by scientists in some studies. Sponsored by the government. What now?

PD -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 21:00:05)

I think ED should start becoming more real.

Let's start with all the weapons. Not all of them need to look shiny and heavily detailed, and heavy in general.

I like a simple sleek style to my stuff. You know, so it doesn't take a FIVE yo EIGHT hours to make ONE weapon...

PivotalDisorder -> RE: Realism Discussion (10/2/2011 21:09:04)

I wouldn't mind that idea applying to armor. seems a shame the last cool looking armors were the varium 29 sets.
now they are overly detailed, bulky, unisex [except Tesla wasn't unisex] and not class specific.
