One of the AKs (I forgot his username) told me last year that grammar is negligible.

Grixus Faldor -> RE: AQ Encyclopedia Info Submission (1/16/2012 10:02:26)

Frankly, grammar is important, but shouldn't be policed to the point where a single error is unacceptable. If it is comprehensible, coherent and makes sense then it's good. Policing grammar is highly unnecessary and would just add needless bureacracy to the AQ Encyclopedia, I speak from experience as a Wikipedian. If there is a mistake, there will always be someone else who will pick it up and notify the appropriate persons, making it a requirement for users to post absolutely flawless write-ups would leave Info. Subs empty.

zippy2010 -> RE: AQ Encyclopedia Info Submission (1/16/2012 10:59:35)

yes grammar is important while posting but the least the write-up should be able to do is make sense for the info-searchers. That should work and then if an AK say,Balu found out any grammatical mistakes while adding entry then he may correct them while copy pasting. THe write-up dosent really need to be perfect because English is not primary language in many countries and pointing them may offend the original posters unless there is a huge mistake. AQ pedias are more flexible from others from my observation and as long as they inform about proper characteristics about the item then it's more then sufficient.
Off topic: Are you like a Ph.D in literature or someting?(plz dont get offended if u do by this ques.)

UltraGuy -> RE: AQ Encyclopedia Info Submission (1/17/2012 3:28:29)

I get corrected most of the time. Do I get offended? No. Why? Ego vs. Knowledge, I don't want be egotistic and think only of myself.
The thing is, it's the AK's job to correct his fellow members' mistakes. And if they are to correct their fellow members, they'll correct them the nicest way possible. The advice given by AKs are not meant to offend members, they are meant to make us improve ourselves, not only in the forums but also in real life.
And I'm not a PhD in grammar/communication arts/literature.

Grixus Faldor -> RE: AQ Encyclopedia Info Submission (1/17/2012 22:41:22)

Yes, but how does that relate to your point? You shouldn't propose something for the purpose of being aesthetically pleasing or to achieve perfection, making it a rule that 'Pedia AKs MUST contact users for every single error in punctuation, grammar, spelling etc. is creating needless bureaucracy and it's a waste of everyone's time. Insofar as grammar in 'Pedia submissions is concerned, there've been absolutely no problems in understanding the write-ups themselves, trivial errors such as an extraneous space, linebreak or comma doesn't make the info. sub unintelligible, it just makes it look aesthetically displeasing.

zippy2010 -> RE: AQ Encyclopedia Info Submission (1/19/2012 10:47:28)

hmm this discussion can go on and on. Yes I agree that sometimes the info. sub look rather aesthetically displeasing but not always since those who post try to look at other previous post if posting for the 1st time or even sometimes a regular poster. maybe its best till one of the staff posts here. then may be you will get a proper answer WITH a valid reason supporting it[;)]
//sry for late reply. This week is getting a lot busier

Grixus Faldor -> RE: AQ Encyclopedia Info Submission (1/19/2012 11:47:16)

'Pedia AKs have posted and there is general consensus that aesthetics is irrelevant as long as the submission is intelligble and contains all the essentials. There's no need for staff to put their foot down on such a trivial matter. Also, you completely misconstrued my post, I said that such incidental mistakes MAKE the 'Pedia aesthetically displeasing, not that they ARE aesthetically displeasing, furthermore, I also stated in my previous posts on this thread that posters WILL check up previous posts in the topics in which they post in Info. Subs for the general look and layout of the template, pardon my bumptiousness but what you're getting at?

zippy2010 -> RE: AQ Encyclopedia Info Submission (1/19/2012 12:29:58)

no i didnt do what you think. I remember that when I was new to the forums few years back I had seen some(maybe it was just 1/dont remember that) entries that were not that appealing to the eyes. I understood what you said and did not misconstrued your post. I just remembered my exp few yrs back and so I said it.
I agree that infos which provide us intelligible and essential things in an understandable way is enough to make the pedia entry. Ak's are just people like us and may/may not do mistakes but mistakes by staffs are rare atleast in the forums. thats why I just thought that staff would help to permanently settle this. They sometimes make rounds in the forums so if by chance they just happened to reply here.

I hope I'm not creating more ruckus. I was just put forwarding my view and not getting anywhere[;)]

Grammar errors will happen as not everyone uses perfect grammar due to age , level of grammar expertise or English as their first language. There will be slight grammar errors that will be made and can/will be corrected in time as they do not directly effect the understanding of the entry. If there is a grammar error that directly effects the understanding of an entry then PM me and I will look into the issue and adjust the issue as need be to make sure the entry represents what is trying to be conveyed.

Aesthetics of a post , general look or formatting , is not some that needs immediate attention unless it is a missing / in a link causing it to turn the entire post into a link. We are not to concerned with formatting as our main goal is to make sure we get the information for the entry accurate and understandable. If we meet both those goals for an entry then the rest in not to important but can be adjusted as need at a latter date and time.

Remember that if there are slight grammar errors or nonimportant formatting issues then you can PM myself or any other Pedia Personel and we will check on it as we get time.

As this thread is has turned into the rehashing of the same statement repeatedly I will now lock it down. If you have other ideas or concerns please feel free to PM myself or any other member of the Pedia Staff and we will discuss it amongst ourselves and decide if we will use the idea/siggestion or pass on it.
