edwardvulture -> Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 0:47:11)

I am not trying to flame here but just to point out a few things I feel that I should say.
This behavior here in the ED GD is just a reflection on the negative feelings caused by the game. It is not how Lord Barrius has been handling it. In fact, I think he has been doing a splendid job. There are several things wrong with this game that causes players to leave it feeling unhappy and even ripped off which eventually leads them to quitting.
#1 Pay-to-win
This happens way too much. If the other side doesn't even have a chance there is no point of the competition in the first place.
#2 Nature of Pvp
This one is obvious. When doing actual pvp's there is only one side that wins and one side must always lose.
Although there are certain things to make a lose or win more deserving such as removing or reducing the effects/chance of weapon specials.
#3 Not worth the money
As you know, weapons get outdated just like that. Also, you spend a bunch of money on enhancements just to compete. Its gone just like that. They need to reduce enhancements and make more ways to spend varium.

What are your thoughts on why this community is so rude?

Zeoth -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 0:58:46)

mostly its the resentment for the community believing that they arent heard. I dont think they are but well its just the overall frustration of being gagged

ND Mallet -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 1:03:37)

There is one thing from LB's post that still sticks with me. The fact that people play ED but try to avoid the forums because of fear of being attacked. If I ran a forum and I heard that, let's just say LB is taking it easy compared to what I would do.

Zeoth -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 1:11:33)

well you cant always take drastic measures immediately u have to wait, if it gets worse then u gotta act. what i saw on that DNs topic was just another typical day.

ND Mallet -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 1:21:31)

@zeoth LB tried tightening up the rule enforcement a couple months ago. When DNs are getting deleted because people can't control themselves, it's time to step in. A typical day in your view point is absolute crappy day to most other people. Yes I know it's a good day if a thread doesn't get locked because of rule breaking, but if that's the definition of good for one section when every other forum section aside from ours has extended periods they can go without locked topics or deleted posts then something needs looked at. EDGD had a chance to straighten up and fly straight. Most people didn't heed the warning call and this is where we ended up as a result.

Zeoth -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 1:24:13)

i must have missed that warning call. EDGD imho will nver fly straight. There will always be flamers and trollers as such. u cant really expect to stop them

ND Mallet -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 1:28:19)

If you ban them all and set a standard for dealing with rude players and trolls then you can. One does not get a good forum without enforcing the rules. Not some of the times either. All of the times. If you lack rules and punishments then one of two things happen. 1. We expand but the population of flamers and trollers increase, eventually leaving a forum of pure flame or 2. It tears itself apart and dies. Either one is not pretty.

Aha, so it isn't just me.

However, often it is not another member that attacks me, but someone higher, which i find even more disturbing.

xxmirxx -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 1:38:08)

#1 Pay-to-win thats like in reals like USA they got money Iraq doesn't. ND ban people doesn't set any grounds especially if they don't ee the wrong I have been ban 6 times on ED forums and yet I didn't see wrong in my part. My point here is in order to change community you must be able to understand why people are mad. personaly I like way wiseman deal with things he doesn't good job not feeding flamer or making worst.

Calogero -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 6:57:47)

Let's just say I'm very cautious when posting replies on a thread.
Last time I posted a 'concern ' when the new rules got posted via pm to LB it got me banned.

Not being able to post what I feel, feels wrong to me. Shure it has to be in a polite manner
but it'd feels to me that Any negative commentary = warning/ban/whatever.

Xendran -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 7:36:37)

xxmirxx: People play games to either get away from reality or live in a simulated reality where things are better or more entertaining.

Remorse -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 7:49:53)

I agree edward vulture.

The main reason why I leave this game unhappy, is the nature of pvp like edward said.

Nowdays you cant use anything stratgical without losing to someone that takes spamming to a whole new level on strength who dont even try to win the just do because their is nothing we can do about it.

But I do apreciate the focus of fixing balance by the devs and the balance team in which I am greatful.

But ever since they created enhacements the nature of pvp has been getting worse and worse.

I know alot of players like going these strngth builds that can take people down effortlessly some of the time.

But personally it has slowly ruined enjoyment of actuly playing the game and playing the game is PVP.

Im not saying that strength builds should not be allowed BUT i just wish they were braught to a level were thay had to think to win and be possible to beat by strategies from all classes, and by stratgies that dont reaily on going all out on power and killing before you are killed.

xDx -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 8:04:21)

I agree with the weapon enhancements it requires too high amount of varium . For example you buy a weapon with 995 varium when you go to enhance 10 slots it requires 1700 varium that is more than the weapon itself and thats too high compared with the weapon varium required>

what are you talking about

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 9:35:45)

@Mir what Xendren said is why video games are so successful it lets you not be you while you play, but someone completely else as to avoid your own reality or just blow off some stream. Also you can play for entertainment but if you entertain yourself you are escaping your own reality.

@Edward you are completely we are an angry people because of the nature of the game. Studies have shown that for gamers your attitude changes on how your character is portrayed. In EpicDuel we are all portrayed as fighters we are supposed to be cold and heartless and for some of us the way our characters are meant to be has become our nature when we talk about the game and possible in reality this is why Lord Barrius had to step in and it is a shame that he had to step in at all.

Renn100 -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 9:48:15)

Uhm guys, not just the varium enchantement cost more like xDx said 995 var for buy a weap and 1700 to full enchance it to +10.But see the non-vars now really... buy atleast Ice Crusher which cost 15.000 credit and if you enchance it already with + 4 you need to waste more money than u bought the weapon like 20-25k cred. But if u full enchant it with +10 (idk if there 's a non-var weapon with 10 slots)u need atleast 100.000 credit now really wth?so comparate the varium and credit price 1700 varium versus 100.000 credit thats just not balanced.I wanted to make a good str build(2HIT KO kramp tech)and needed to add +11 enchantements and i do not enchanted onky 1 weapon cuz that shud taked like 40k cred i enchanted +3 to gun +4 to maul + 2aux +2armor and costed 25k ...uhm what?a stupid enchance so better mae it or lower or make a system where to get more xp and cred(depends on lvl)

DestruRaGe -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 10:20:48)

You got my full support Edward ^^

nico0las -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/16/2012 19:32:56)

-You are fully aware that several problems the game has stems from the community?
It takes two to salsa dance. The man leads, the woman follows. Just like the Team and Community.
In this example, the men are the Team, and women are the community.
If the men dance poorly, the women have to deal with it. If the woman starts dancing, the man has a hard time dancing well.
If neither can dance, then the dance fails entirely.
We, as the community, need to accept flaws and MOVE ON. Trolling, flaming, and being generally poor sports about
not getting what you want will help no one.

-The pay to win concept is ridiculous. Obviously, he who pays more should receive more, right?
Let's say two men wanted to buy a car. If one bought a better car than the other by spending more money,
well that makes perfect sense. The non variums CHOOSE to not buy varium. I understand some simply don't have the means,
but generally, I doubt the average ED player can't pay 50 dollars for 10 000 varium (not to mention AExtras).
There are non variums who are incredibly powerful even without it. ED is unlike any other AE game. AQW for example
doesn't base on gear, but a story line. The gear is complementary. ED, being a combat engine, needs no story, but a variety of gear.

-PvP is fine. Perhaps it's unbalanced for non variums (read point above, they can choose to become varium). Admittedly, 2v2 is broken,
(hudelf did some work and it's working better than usual now, the level range is better), but that's the way it's been and will be. 2v2 isn't fixable.
Juggernaut is basically a way for us variums to enjoy ourselves. I can't take it as seriously as 1v1 and 2v2.

-If you feel that ED is not worth the money, well don't pay money. You are not bound to having to spend money on this game. If you don't like to lose
often, but don't want to pay money, you'll either have to farm a LOT, or choose one of the two options given to you.

+1
People can be mad and angry but to live in any community (real or virtual) you need to have manners and learn not to burst your frustrantion in someone else.

nico0las: agreed.
The company behind ED needs to make money from their games. To convince more people to hand them money it needs to be more attractive to them compared to what they got before paying.
By more attractive I mean better, far easier or both. This may be up for discussion and I also agree balance needs to be dealt with (and it is !) BUT the discussion needs to be civil ALL THE TIME, not only when you are "on the mood".

Fay Beeee -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/17/2012 10:16:40)

@andy123
May be your solution is one of two choices.

You could reply directly to the originator of the thread in pm (private mail)
Or
you could ask any mod to check your post for you and see if any of it is considered against any of the rules.

I am not saying do not post. Just trying to offer a way for you to be able to get your words across, so that none of it can be read the wrong way. I have a bad habit of typing how I am thinking my thoughts and when I read it back (if I remember to lol) I try and see if they will understand my point.

It is not always easy because when you speak to someone 'face to face' they can hear your tone of voice and see your body gestures. This is what helps it make sense. When typing we cannot, so imo, we assume others will know what we truly mean to relay to them. Does not always work.

No offence meant here. :)

Now I will read it before I post. lol

Calogero -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/17/2012 12:49:44)

@ Fay

Let's just say it was a PM to Lord Barrius that got me banned lol...

marleytime -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/17/2012 14:10:26)

this forum is boring now

Many people play video games because its fun there are small amount just do it escape reality of there own lifes. Those people shouldn't play ED because start think ED for example community and tend to blame others for there mistakes.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/17/2012 18:49:54)

@Mir you are prolly right about that but even to some people ED brings joy, most likely those who use Epicduel as a chatroom in my personal opinion

Lord Barrius -> RE: Response to LB's Reminder of Courtesy (1/17/2012 20:49:33)

Locking as this is relating discussion of forum policy. I understand that you want to post about this, but please, PM me if you wish to discuss forum policy.

I do, however, support a thread that discusses the community's concerns and where things might be improved, which I believe is what you were trying to do here, but I feel as though it's been bogged down by its focus on forum rules. Let's focus that energy instead on trying to figure out what's gone wrong and what steps we can take to make it right, and leave the forum rule discussion to PMs.

Other minor details:

@Zeoth: I don't agree. AQGD was much the same as here, a long while ago. It dramatically improved as new rules took hold and the good, honest people who love the game emerged and overtook the flamers and trollers. EDGD can easily do the exact same thing if it wants to.

@ND: Glad to see that someone realizes how much I'm trying to avoid heavy-handed enforcement. I am certainly capable of doing that if I need to, but I don't want to have to do that. I'd much rather allow the community to fix itself with my help than to have to be Big Brother.

@andy: While I am required by privacy rules not to reveal the reason or details behind a user's ban, you and I both know that you were not banned for "speaking your mind". Let's not be dishonest with people to earn their sympathy, if you please.
