frogbones -> Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 21:39:13)

Simple question, but first the scenario:

Two level 34s, full Varium. Bounty Hunter vs. Merc.

No crits, no blocks, no deflects.

One of the players (Player A) chooses to boost two times and wins with 18 health left (the equivalent of one attack from the opponent). The other player (Player B) doesn't choose to boost.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so I ask you:

Who is the better player? And more importantly, why?

Wraith -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 21:43:16)

Did a BH seriously have trouble with a Merc? BOO. *thumbsdown*

The BH needs some practice.

The Merc is the better player.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 21:43:37)

clearly Player B had the build advantage over Player A but Player A dragged out the battle just long enough to beat Player B because of the boosters.

Build wise Player B

tactics wise Player A

SMGS -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 21:44:21)

Well, I think of boosting as a strategy to turn the outcome of a fight around.
Basically everyone, or almost everyone, has the credits to purchase boosters, carry them and use the when they need it.
Personally, I'd think that Player A would be considered 'better' in this battle due to the fact that he was able to use the booster to his advantage.

Stabilis -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 21:50:49)

We have them or we don't.

Boosters are a "backup" device so I may as well search the meaning:

quote:

1 help or support: no police backup could be expected
a person or thing that can be called on if necessary; a reserve: I’ve got a security force as backup the filter is an excellent backup to other systems [as modifier]: a backup generator

2 Computing the procedure for making extra copies of data in case the original is lost or damaged: automatic online backup [as modifier]: a backup system
an extra copy of data from a computer.

3 an overflow caused by a stoppage, as in water or automobile traffic: there are long backups on all routes

~ Oxford library

Boosters are auxiliary sources for having multiple options. They do prolong the battle (and sometimes end it if energy is used to deal a lethal skill). I have no problem with boosters at the level cap because credits are aplenty. If someone boosts against me when I do not have boosters I think "oh... snap, I forgot a tool to my full-scale strategy, its MY FAULT".

Wraith -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 21:54:53)

@Depressed: I can buy a gun. I CAN SHOOT YOU. I HAVE THE MONEY TO.

Why don't I?

Why don't I go through cosmetic surgery?

Why don't I buy steroids?

Why don't I buy insane pills that boost every nutrient?

Why don't I take 666x 5-hr-energy instead of eating or sleeping?

Stabilis -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 21:56:46)

@Wraith,

Because you're a good guy!

Joe10112 -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 22:33:56)

I've lost many a battle like that. At the end I say "lol booster" and then they get all in my face and claim they won because they were better, even though they won with barely any health left and stuff.

But what really ticks me off is when they boost TWICE and they win off of a block with like 4 HP left and claim they were better. Gawd I hate that. NO YOU WERE NOT.

rayniedays56 -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 22:40:33)

Miss me Froggy? :)

Well, I must say that Player B had the advantage. He managed to get the boosting Player A down to 18 health without using a booster.

HOWEVER, I am in support of boosting.

If you are having trouble winning a battle, Kudos to your opponent for the apparently awesome build, unless it's a strength BM. lol

And like Wraith said...a bounty having trouble with a mercenary! :O That merc MUST be awesome :)

Mr. Black OP -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 22:44:03)

I am not for boosters. If you can't beat an opponent fairly then you should not be able to buy yourself the fight. Unless you were at a level or weapon disadvantage.

Algorithm -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 23:24:14)

Player A in my opinion is the better player, he apparently understands that boosters do no harm and can be used to ones advantage in PvP.

midnight santa -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 23:27:16)

Ya, player B is weaker player. He no use booster and he just lose. So he is the loser literally.

frogbones -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 23:35:49)

So algorithm,

If Player B also boosted, and therefore won, you would consider him/her the better player, right?

So in the end, all things being equal (if they both boosted equally), Player B would be better.

And thus, if neither boosted and Player B won, he/she is the better player.

Ergo, strip away the BS to find who *truly* is the better player.

ND Mallet -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 23:41:43)

@frogbones The better player strategically would be the player who boosted. If the other player doesn't booster and he has them then he would be at the disadvantage and wouldn't be considered the better player because he put himself at a disadvantage on purpose.

The only things I have against boosters if they're used against lower leveled players or non variums(assuming you're varium). If you seriously need to booster you should just give them the win out of respect for their skill(if they had the same level and/or gear they probably would've won anyways).

Stabilis -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 23:46:10)

@Sir Frog,

We only really ever despise boosting because credits were or still are difficult to accumulate, random chance offsets some matches incredibly, and that free-2-play do not have as much PvP opportunity as one who pays.

Frost Snake -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/1/2012 23:56:55)

Boosting isnt bad nor is it good it can help people win battles but at the cost of credits so say in a 1vs1 a lvl 34 uses 2 boosters and they winv they have just wasted 58 credits on boosters and in a 1vs1 you dont win over 50 unless its powerhour, so what im saying is if you use 2 boosters in a 1vs1 you have lost credits instead of earning them

frogbones -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 0:22:31)

I give up. No use belaboring the issue.

Boosting will always be an indicator that you've been outplayed.

I'll end it with my siggy.

Joe10112 -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 0:27:49)

I mean, I just find that Boosters is just annoying and personally I take it as "Oh look I'm going to use a Booster and beat you." It's not really a battle of builds now. I can say-I probably would have won many battles if I boosted. But I chose not to. I choose my pride and dignity (not saying if you boost you lose dignity, in my view, if someone else on the brink of defeat boosts, I personally view it as annoying and a sign of weakness) over just a won battle. If they acknowledge that without the boost they wouldn't have won, I'm fine, but most people I go against who boost are arrogant and overconfident. When I beat someone I technically wasn't supposed to, I give credit to the lucky RNG giving me 5 blocks, early rage, a couple criticals even though I have no SUP, etc... because I won't be that arrogant player saying "GG noob".

MrBones -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 7:09:54)

Like in a chess game, you sometimes need to sacrifice a piece in order to win.

By boosting at the rigth moment, a player shows that he can anticipate the coming moves and show skills and strategy.

I HAVE SPOKEN.

NUFF SAID.

drinde -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 7:12:57)

Boosters are a part of the game.

You can choose to use them in a fight, or you can choose not to. I don't know why people condemn those who use boosters as weak, since they are strategic enough to know when to use a booster, and whether it would help secure a win. I only boost when the reward outweigh the usage of the booster, if a win gets me more than 28 Credits, I consider the booster well spent.

However, I dislike those who boost just to show off. xP

RageSoul -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 7:22:51)

I agree on Drinde here .

My answer :
Boosters are fine and actually puts a very good yet challenging twists in battles . But i find the people who say "boosters are for noobs like FM" . Ah , so you're saying pros like Fay , Turk and the others are noobs , eh? If so , here's my rating :

FACEPALM!!

P.S : I'm not pointing / referring anyone in this forum , just the huge amounts of players who're say that .

Darkwing -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 7:32:45)

mercenary is the better player. bounty din't win the fight, the booster did. Players can use boosters all they want, it just shows they are weak and can't win without help.

i like bounty hunter -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 7:44:58)

Player A Was Smart For Boosting But Boosting 2 Times Is Wasting Credits For No Reason Unless Its Power Hour Then Its Strategic.

MrBones -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 8:17:39)

The credit point is irrevelant to most pro players as we don't need credits.

Generally, pros have over 100k. So to me, when I go to battle, I go there to win. I don't care if I spend 56 credits. I am not here for the credits, I am Here for win.

Boosting twice in a fight is very rare anyway so the 24 credits lost (if you win 56-32=24) is too small to be taken account for.

midnight santa -> RE: Question About Boosting (5/2/2012 8:22:36)

yeah, pros don't care about sum cheap moneys.
we just win at any cost, dats how we roll dog.
