Remington -> UPvote/DOWNvote system? (5/10/2012 9:30:36)

Could we instate an UPvote/DOWNvote system? I think this might help improve the flow of things. The website reddit has instated this system and it works well for the most part; it can really help stomp out some nonsensical posts that nothing more than thornberrian garble. Currently, you can get posts you want to stay on the front page by posting there and giving the post traffic, but you can't give a negative of this, which has made things a bit imbalanced.

We used to have one of these but it made the forums into a popularity contest. Probably not happening again.

Like Hopeful Guy said the problem with those sort of systems generally bring the "Popularity Contest" issue which brings things such as spam and hatred all over the place. Not to mention that other threads/posts would become useless which is also not good, what makes a person opinion better than the other? I could see this working in Help request forums but little more.
For Battleon forums I fear it will only raise more issues than actual help.

reasonable issues.

EDIT: but isn't it sort of a popularity contest anyways, only less official?

If I understand correctly, a page is located higher on the docket depending on the number of views and posts (essentially the activity that the page sponsors). If it were redirected to an UPvote because I like this and want to see more, DOWNvote because this is asinine, and no vote because I don't care, then I think maybe we could eventually improve the community overall.

I can see the downside though.

@Remington
Not by views or posts. The order of the threads is by which was posted in last. Say we have Thread A, Thread B, and Thread C. They're in the order (starting from top and going down) A B C. If I post in thread C, the order of the threads will become C A B.

Hope that clears it up.

thank you. That is actually quite helpful.
