Cataclysm -> Linking Problem? (6/4/2012 0:17:07)

I was trying to link to some images in the AQGD. However, the link that was turned into this:

http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq301/Teh_Ownz/AQ%20Screenshots/Awesome/?action=view¤t=Nighthunterstill.png

That odd symbol and "t" after it were originally "& current" (no space), which somehow changed when I posted it. Any way to get around this? I had to use a different link given to get it to work right, which is fine, but it's just unusual.

You can force the whole text to be a link by setting it in between [url] tags like so:

[url]http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq301/Teh_Ownz/AQ%20Screenshots/Awesome/?action=view¤t=Nighthunterstill.png[/url]

Producing: http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq301/Teh_Ownz/AQ%20Screenshots/Awesome/?action=view¤t=Nighthunterstill.png

As an added note you can instead use the direct link Photobucket provides rather than copying the URL address. So for example for the first image:
[link=http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq301/Teh_Ownz/AQ%20Screenshots/Awesome/Nighthunterstill.png]Nighthunter[/link]
Results in this: Nighthunter

And so forth for each image you wanted to link.

Maybe I should make my problem a bit more clear.

The page I was TRYING to link to was thus:

http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq301/Teh_Ownz/AQ%20Screenshots/Awesome/?action=view& current=Nighthunterstill.png

Without the space in between the "&" and "current." Trying to put the two together produces this: ¤t

I'm mostly wondering just what that is. I know I can get around it, and I did, I'm just very curious as to what causes that change.

It is a problem with the forum Interceptor (the part that handle and filter external links). It does not do well with complex URLs.

You have two options:

  • Replace special characters with their HEX notation, like this:
    [link]http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq301/Teh_Ownz/AQ%20Screenshots/Awesome/?action=view%26current=Nighthunterstill.png[/link]

  • Or, use a URL shortener like http://tinyurl.com/ to pack the complex URL into something that does not confuse the interceptor http://tinyurl.com/74hbnyf
