Grixus Faldor -> A warn function (6/29/2012 2:38:00)

I understand post-forwarding is a way of reporting posts to staff, where those posts contravene any rules. However, I believe the addition of a report function and report control panel, similar to what Zetaboards and other forum software providers have, would make it more convenient as users can add in a reason for the report and any staff member who is available at the time can handle the report allowing for them to be processed faster than say contacting the one staff member. Would this be a feasible addition, or one that is at all possible, as I am unfamiliar with ASPPlayground.NET

I cannot address this from a coding perspective, so I will stick with the feasibility of this suggestion in practice. I can certainly see the merits of such a function as a report would be viewed by all moderators as opposed to just the one receiving the PM, but the issue lies more in the additional workload this could provide coupled with the limited benefits this would yield. One must account for potential abuse of such a system by virtue of reporting others being more accessible.

As you mentioned, dropping a simple PM to the relevant AK or moderator would suffice, especially since you can just add the forum staff of the boards you frequent most often into your address book to see who is online at the time. If there is someone online, there is nothing to worry about. If there is nobody online, chances are nobody would be online to check reports either.

That is true, however, my experience with these is that generally users are sensible enough and of sound mind that they won't abuse the system and they have some "fail-safes" in place that require the reason field be filled out, not much for a human but it'd stop a bot for sure. I don't think there's any hour of the day where at least one AK or Moderator isn't online, given the spread of timezones. However, exploitation can be applied to anything really, there's nothing stopping a user from running an automated code and spamming forwarded messages or private messages. That said, I hope I don't sound like I'm overstepping any territory here, I just thought I'd give my two cents :)
