Ash The Phantom -> Possible forum suggestion, I see this often in other forums... (8/11/2012 23:25:48)

A small box at the bottom of an open thread that shows who's viewing the thread. I see this on other popular forums often, and it really is a nifty feature to see who is looking at a thread. On another forum I frequent, I won't name it since it contains some NSFW material, the bottom of a thread has a "Viewing Now" section, it lists users who are currently looking at a thread in standard font, and users who are actively replying to a thread in italics. The format for the section is like this. quote:
Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 7 (5 members and 2 guests) Ash the Phantom, User 1, User 2, User 3, Another guy. People who sign in as Invisible or people who aren't registered turn up as "guests". I personally think that while this is mainly a "Oh look, that's kinda neat" feature, it does have some uses. Say you just posted a Q/A thread that needs answering, you can see if someone's looking at your thread, or someone is replying to it, so you can anticipate an incoming reply. Or you see a thread that's breaking a rule, you can see if a moderator or an AK is currently looking at the thread so you don't need to find one to take proper action. It helps the AK's too so when users see that the thread breaks the rules and an AK/Mod is reading/replying to the thread, they all don't start PMing every AK that governs the subforum and causing a bit of spam in their inboxes. Just something cool I thought I'd pitch at the forum code monkeys. I don't hang out around here that often, but I still think I'd like to see something like this, and I'm sure others might as well.
