Sparticus -> Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/18/2012 16:20:33)

I would like to suggest a new battle mode. This mode is for players who want to really battle without the security of level, varium or class.

6 players would join the "Melee Battle" mode. You click the mode but are not forced into a waiting screen. Instead, you are entered into a list of player willing to battle in this mode. When 6 or more players are also entered into this mode, the server randomly selects 6 players and throws them into a "Melee Battle".

The screen would give you very little info on the other 5 players. The actual avatars would be absent and replaced with smaller versions of themselves. They don't move but are distributed in a circle with the screen view being downward looking, that is to say, you see 6 players in a circle from an aerial view. To attack you depress the attack you want and then click the player you want to attack. Turns are selected 2 at a time, that is to say, 2 players are attacking at once. Once the first 2 players have attacked, the second 2 players attack then the third 2 players attack. Once everyone has gone, the turns start over. In this way, you can't know or counter every move against you or plan in advance moves against other players. Everyone can attack the same player or defend themselves or others. The winner is given 1 Melee win and 3x credits, XP and influence.

Stats, builds and skill trees are not, I repeat, NOT visible, not even the players name is shown until the winner is declared. You only get to see the players from the top view and have to guess at their builds, skills and even class. Just like a genuine, random Melee battle you have to fend for yourself even under the most painful conditions. Only their HP, Energy and status condition changes are visible ie: smoke, malfunction, shrink, field commander and such are visible around the players as well as technician, reflex boost, defense matrix and stuns.

Level differences will be within 1 either way, level 35's will face 35 or 34 only. Since you're not stuck in a queue, you can put your name on the list for Melee battle mode and still battle 1v1 or 2v2 or even chat until enough players in your level range join in. If no one is interested, you just have to wait it out or do something else. You will not, I repeat, NOT have prior warning of a battle starting if you put your name on the list. That is the only notice you get. A real Melee battle can ensue at anytime, anyplace with the exception of while you are in another battle. The winner is flashed on the screen in front of the other players at the end of the battle. If you are eliminated early you can leave the battle mode without losing your winnings, 10% XP, credits and no token or influence.

I suggest this mode to add several new features to this game. First, I want to be scared. Fear that you will get gang attacked at any time is awesome. Second, I want to think about my battles more. This will cause you to really think things out in real time. Lastly, I would like something less predictable, less repetitious and really infuriating. That will make me come back and fight things out repeatedly. Right now, there isn't anything interesting to do on a daily basis and wars only happen quarterly at best.

This mode seems interesting. I support it! It seems pretty fun, without the stats it could be a endless battle

ND Mallet -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/18/2012 23:23:00)

1. What thought is there to this? You just guess and take a shot in the dark and hope to god what you hit isn't heavily protected against your damage type.
2. A big balance problem will come about because people will team up on one person. Say Player 1 is Malfed by Player 2 but Player 1 hit Player 5 without a debuff. Now everyone will aim at Player 1 with Energy damage attacks and he won't get another turn to protect himself.
3. It's completely luck based. There's no way to tell if the guy I hit has 50+ defense or 50+ resistance so I have to take a guess and hope I do more than 3. I also have to hope I'm not hit by any debuffs or I'll be the Player 1 in the above example.
4. Since two players attack at once, what would happen when it gets down to 3 players and lower and any other odd number? And what about Multi skills? And when they get down to 4 players and both attackers use a strong Multi and happen to pick different targets and all 4 die, what happens there?

shadesofblue -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/19/2012 0:20:51)

I support, but I have several objections.
1) Not enough players?
I don't want to be in cases where I need to wait 2-5 minutes to get in to a battle. (You could do something else, but that defeats the point of the game.) Also, I don't want to battle the same 6 players over and over again.
2) Battles too long?
I don't want each battle to take an average of 10 minutes.
2.5) Not enough rewards for battle length?
I think the winner should recieve at least 5-6 times the normal 1v1 win credits and EXP, because assuming a fight takes 10 minutes, that's about the same amount of time it takes to do 5 1v1 wins. Also, this battle mode has no clear winner, even if it's one full varium level 35 (running the latest OP class) against 5 other non-varium level 34's (running the latest UP class), so I think players should be rewarded more for winning. Players who are killed early shoud recieve 3x the normal 1v1 rewards (provided they stay to see the end), so they are compensated for thier time.

I also agree with some the the ND Mallet Guy's concerns, but overall it seems like a very fun and interesting concept, and I would love to see it in-game (after we fix all the issues with it).

donnymillermiller -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/19/2012 0:47:59)

Rayman -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/19/2012 1:04:15)

All I can say right now is that I support, We need more variety and fun on the game, and I do not have more to say about this suggestion Yet.

donnymillermiller -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/19/2012 1:19:23)

Supported. But without the chat.

Sparticus -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/19/2012 15:07:42)

While I agree there is a great deal of random guessing, luck and frankly blind faith to this mode, I never the less still would love to see it.

Several good points I would like to address:

1)When players gang up on a single player they have no idea who or what they are attacking. All they can see is the actual player, no name or information is available. What you see from other players and your attacks is all the info you get. If you see someone smoking you can certainly guess they are low on def but what if that player had super high dex? Take your chances and see. On the other hand, what makes you think the best first move is to attack? In most cases, I would guess players would defend in some manner.

2a)When there are odd numbers of players, that is to say 5 and 3, there will be a turn when only one player acts. Certainly, the 2 v 1 would have some advantage so wouldn't you angle for that placement? Protecting your turn mate might favor you in later rounds. Buffing your turn mate might end badly if that buff helped them beat you. This would take some advanced thought, an item mostly lacking in the current battle modes.

or

2b)There is certainly another way to play this. Each player enters in a move, attack or buff/nerf then the game plays them all out at the same time. 6 players all moving here and there might be more funny and more fair. Certainly more like a Melee fight. That would solve the gang up issue at least for the first turn since everyone will get to make at least one turn without any knowledge of the other 5 players moves.

3)Lastly, multi-attacks. Sorry to say but you don't get to choose who they hit. Like firing off a machine gun in a crowd, you could easily hit some unintended targets. If everyone dies then no one wins, some fights end this way in real life so learn to live with it.

I see many other weaknesses in this suggestion. The basic problem is I have no way of knowing how capable the coders are so I have no way to guess how skillfully they might flesh this idea out. It may be that the players end up as no more then colored specks, in which case the mode will fail. If you could make out what armor, weapons and buff/nerfs are going on then it might actually turn out to be quite fun.

I welcome any advise on how to improve this suggestion and encourage those who lend no useful advise to keep their criticism constructive.

I like the idea, but i have a few concerns:

What happens when 2 people attack at once, and one is killed, but he has blood lust, and thus may or may not have survived?
3x rewards seems too low. It should be at least 6x to account for the fact that there are 6 players.
As mentioned above, there may not be enough players for this battle mode to be effective. Unless the maximum server load is doubled before this is released, I don't see it happening.

That about covers it.

Do you mean that, lets say its player A and player B turns,(at same time turn) and at that turn player A attacks the player B and player B attacks the player A?
Well I guess you cant attack the opponent that have the turn the same time as you.

forcefear699 -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/19/2012 23:29:16)

As you said you can fix ganging up by making group 1 (2 people attack each other) ect and it changes after all 3 groups go

ninja.fighter -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/20/2012 12:36:30)

nice idea

midnight assassin -> RE: Melee Battle Free For All 6 Player Mode (8/20/2012 13:01:28)

I was thinking that the ch,tlm and tm will dominate this mode. I don't know if this is stupid but what if our character avatars will only be covered in black with a question mark then when the last player ends his/her turn, every player will have their position shuffled? Also no detail on what the hp will be but only the prm or aux and either res or def on every shuffle? Also no chat to avoid gang bang.

1st
1(prm,def) 4(aux,def)
2(aux,res) 5(prm,res)
3(prm,res) 6(aux, def)

2nd
2(a,res) 3(a,def)
5(p,def) 1(p,res)
6 (p,def) 4(a,res)

Regardless of whether I know the guy has uber def/res or not I'd still attack him just because I know I probably have a better chance of dealing more damage to him than to anyone else. Being defensive in a situation where you could easily be hit by all the players at once isn't the best idea in my mind. If I put a shield on then the other people will know I have the shield on and thus go around it, easily leaving me having just wasted the energy and turn for it while the other 4-5 guys just pound on me helplessly.

I can just see that ending badly in terms of community behavior. "OMGZ! I helpz you nub, now u kill me!1!*rages*"

That's sadly not going to be an option. Bio Borg's Thorn special doesn't kill solely because the game is not meant to ever end in a tie. I understand the random target part but I don't think many would agree to having their skill left 100% to chance rather than having an option to choose the target themselves. People would be more upset if the skill randomly attacked two people and it did 3 on both rather than if they picked the two targets themselves and had the same outcome.
