Raynie, I think I can answer your question. The thing that you need to acknowledge is that EpicDuel is a game, but it is ALSO a business. And like any other business, it needs to make money to survive. If you stop thinking of EpicDuel as a free game with purchasable add-ons, and start thinking of EpicDuel as a purchasable game with a very liberal trial period, then things start to make more sense. The reason that there aren't any real good non-varium armors is that they want to encourage players to stop using the free trial and start paying to support the game. The same with a lot of the other high level stuff. Up to level 25 most players, new or experienced, don't spend varium on equipment. New players are still unsure if they like the game yet, and experienced players know they will just discard the equipment for better stuff soon. But then they start encountering the high level full varium players and need to decide - do I buy varium (i.e. pay for the full version of the game) or do I continue on playing the free (i.e. lite) version? EpicDuel has one of the most liberal free trials I have seen. No level cap(like WoW). No time limits (like ShockWave). No restricted areas (like AQ). You can do everything you want to in EpicDuel for as long as you like without paying a penny. Except purchase top-level equipment. You ask "Is it fair?" The answer is No, it is not fair(from a game perspective). But if you remember that this is a business as well as a game, you will realize that the answer has to be No. Each type of player is getting what it pays for.
