The point of this thread in a nutshell:

Making the game more F2P friendly
---> A word about a F2P friendly game spreads to the internets
---> More players come see and try out the game
---> More players playing the game
---> More players buying Varium/More benefit from buying Varium
---> (This is a little cliché-ish but true) Profit.

Oba -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 9:36:07)

^If the game gets more F2P friendly than it is now, I dont see any point in buying varium so Im not sure if the game would get a bigger profit from doing so.. but, we do need more players in the game.

Angels Holocaust -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 12:21:36)

It's too late to care about non variums, this game has been out for 4 years and now all of a sudden the players care about non variums? The way they marketed this game was done poorly at best and to make matters worse, they implemented a feature that completely destroyed the hierarchy of this game. That problem was incumberance, whose idea was it to allow players to equip weapons 5 levels about their level? Please tell me, this is the worst idea that I have ever heard in my life. The fact that there are no non variums left to farm off of is bad enough, now they implement a feature that rewards bad varium players is another story. Varium should give a player an incentive to play this game, not help them auto pilot their way to the top.

Ranloth -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 12:21:34)

Oba, it boils down to time vs. money. You either work for it or pay and get it easy way, and with enhancements it's really better to use Varium past 5th slot if you can since it costs too much. But more F2P friendly means more players - as you said - and profit would still raise either way. Until game truly becomes F2P friendly, so more Credit-only items or Varium-only, then Varium will still dominate since closing the gap will be a very long process. And Varium will still have exclusive items, such as say recent promo Armor which is Varium and Credits, so there'll be cases of normal equipment (like it is now) and possibly once in a while, one that has same stats for both versions thus very long process when it comes to variety + enhancements will make it hard.

More players always is more profit. Varium isn't only used to get weapons - there are enhancements, hairstyles for those who really must have them, certain Varium-only equipment that F2P cannot get, better houses, and easy way through the game instead of playing a lot to get what you want (and once Cap raises, Credits become completely wasted on enhancements, lolololol).

Actually, from observation it appears that the general demographic of the higher-level players (by which I mean players at level 33 and above) are largely varium players. It currently seems that near the level cap, it is not an advantage to have varium, but it is a disadvantage not to have it.

Silver Sky Magician hit the nail right on the head.

JariTheMighty -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 12:52:54)

Making the playing field more fair to non variums doesn't necessarily mean buffing up their weaponry. They have some very good equipment already. The problem lies somewhere else.

Currently the biggest hindrance or stumbling block for non variums by far is the difficulty to get credits for decent equipment. It is absolutely ridiculous to win over 1500 in order to get a measly 6 stat enhances on an item.

What first comes to my mind is revamping the current credit currency system. It's clearly flawed as a level 1 character earns the same amount of credits from a fight as a level 35 level capped player.

$Avarice$ -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 13:33:00)

^ It's been 3 years, and the game makers STILL haven't addressed this issue. Shoots, maybe they can't even comprehend it since they don't play and are out of touch with the community.)

Darkwing -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 13:41:53)

game more friendly for free players = enhancements more friendly( in price), the gamebreaking feature. Even if they made "varium - like gear" for f2p, you can't get most out of it if you don't enhance it. Even a player with full varium gear won't do much if he doesn't enhance gear.

zion -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 15:55:32)

@Jari - Higher level players should be making a ton more credits - or make enhancements super cheap - it doesn't make any sense that enhancements not only cost more than an item - it costs 10 times as much! Lunacy...
--Noiz

edit: does everyone realize, it is better for a f2p to spend 50k to switch to the current top class than to enhance a few weapons??

Bunshichi -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 16:22:59)

^ they would need a harbringer which is the only f2p class changable armor if im right and they would need a new primary if they don't use swords.

zion -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/3/2012 18:16:29)

^ You think an f2p can dream of competing w/o harbinger or at least bio hazard husk? And there was Hero Heart Set... I saw some f2ps buy all the infernal f2p primaries btw...

ND Mallet -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 15:21:03)

@gk He's not saying you need them. He's saying it will cost you a lot to class change and then buy a new armor and primary if you don't have one of the very few and rare Mutating armors and weapons for F2P.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 18:12:47)

Actually for around 1/2 of the F2P community it would cost 100K to get to the current OP'd class. Lets say Tac Merc is OP'd again, for kicks and giggles, that means all mage and hunter classes would have to pay 50K to become a Merc and another 50K to become a Tac Merc.

then of course there is armor and primary cost and no refund for your enhancements if you have any bought for credits. Anyway you look at it you are facing a serious loss both in credits and time

zion -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 20:49:24)

@OWA Its 50k to switch classes period.

@ND The sad truth is we can only be talking about players with all the rare and mutating equips because a run-of-the-mill f2p has no hope whatsoever in PVP. Even taking that into account, the cost of enhancements are too high to enhance said rare and mutating equips, better to switch to the OP class... That's what I meant...

ScarletReaper -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 20:57:17)

^Definetly true. I just had to grind out 28k credits in 2 days because I was afraid the pirate weapons were going to go rare again and they are PERFECT for my f2p tech/support techmage build. Had I not done so, It would have been much harder for me to make my build.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 21:22:52)

@gk365 I need to pay attention more at first you had to go into the base class to reach the evo class and that is why I never went for it. And really unless I am going for Blood Mage, which my gear is terrible for, there is no point at all for me to switch classes because I would have to play for borderline forever to get the needed credits for new gear

zion -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 21:26:48)

@OWA Then again, you wouldn't hope to have the necessary credits for enhancements either!

Tracheonyx -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 21:37:11)

A realization I've come to after playing this game since Alpha on so many accounts and characters: F2P has the better actual players. Percentage is a measure of skill, and with the exception of Angels Holocaust and a couple other stars I think there are actually more brilliant (95%+) F2Ps than Varium players PROPORTIONALLY. Varium actually can dull your skills and create dependence, whereas F2Ps rely on their wits to get them through. I personally have NEVER gone full varium, buying at most 2500 for a level 30, but my current fav character has close to a hundred 1v1 wins and 4 losses, and he hasn't lost a battle since level 5. This was achieved with only one varium piece of equipment: Iron Hulk armor, which can easily be replaced with Warlord with little ill effect. (I'm not counting Energy Katana or the Sharpshooter I got from selling Var mission drops)

If you doubt me, look up Gillgamesh, W4R M4CHINE and ninja powaaa.

Nub Apocalypse -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 21:37:59)

There is no truth behind this system we call society. Society is just a place where the rich flourish and the poor die.

Mr. Black OP -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/4/2012 22:28:36)

@trach
Everyone with 95%+ pretty much npcs whenever possible, heck even 90%+ kind of says "npcer."
Sadly most of the F2P I met have negative win ratios or end up having to save a ton of credits to enhance in order to allow them to compete with varium players.

ND Mallet -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/5/2012 0:37:44)

The only problem people would have with Encumberance is that they no longer get 100% free wins from lower leveled players anymore. You can't forget that without encumberance you wouldn't have been able to use a few items released in the game because they were above level cap when they got released.

Um this is entirely their fault. I started my account during Beta as a Tech Mage, and went as an f2p up to lv30.

At the moment I bought my first varium pack, I had twice as many wins than losses. And I had no idea about NPC-ing back then.

I'm not saying I was uber-smart or anything, but having more wins than losses as an f2p is perfectly achievable, even for a beginner. Not easy, but achievable.

I just ran around and noticed what builds pros have, and tried to figure out why. I kept an eye on the forums too, and discovered Thylek Shran's compendium, and then I knew where to buy everything. It's not rocket science.

ScarletReaper -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/5/2012 8:16:55)

I'm level 28 f2p with a record of 1300 wins and 750 losses between 1v1 and 2v2, mostly 1v1. It is perfectly possible to have a decent record up to level 30 with a f2p character, however, once you get above 30, you start to run into major problems unless you somehow manage to get enough credits to fully enhance your gear.

MrBones -> RE: The Ironic Truth? (10/5/2012 10:26:41)

1) Encumbrance should be reduce to only 3 levels.

2) Seasonal rares should be buff every year. It is not acceptable to have to buy the same weapon every year. Just look at what happened with the Dragon Buster II. This a very good way to protect the players investement in-game.
The permanent rares should not be buff as they would provide an unfair advantage for newer players.

3) The price for enhancements should be lowered. Credit and varium options price should be review ASAP.

4) In my opinion there is too many promos. I believe they should focus on features right now, especially the revamp factions system, to keep the players hook on the game. Tournements ect.. IMPROVE the game, stop trying to make a quick buck. This will have better chances to bring new players to the game and keep the ones you already have.
Let's close this 'Delta' phase and move on !

5) The credits earned from a win should scale with level. It is not acceptable to earn the same at level 1 than level cap.

The Bag have spoken.
