Mother1 -> Hide character build option (10/9/2012 12:50:58)

This is just a thought but how about they add a hide character build button? Being able to see everyone's build give you an idea on how to counter it, and also how to copy it which take away from the fun of the game as well as promote the dreaded copying of builds. If people had this option it make the game more strategic since you would have to figure out the weakness and strengths on your own, as well as have people come up with their own builds instead of just copying the most OP builds which in my opinion is killing the game.

ND Mallet -> RE: Hide character build option (10/9/2012 14:18:05)

What strategy is there to this? All you need to do is be a str build and hide your stats and skills. No one will see anything about your build at all so they can't honestly defend against it. Perhaps this Str Hunter looking character actually has an ungodly powerful Multi Shot on him. You'd be throwing up a physical shield only to be hit the second round by a powerful energy blast. If you have little knowledge of the weapons in-game then you could very well find yourself in a situation where you go offensive when you should be defensive. There's no way to be sure that your enemy is abusing strength or not. You cannot figure out players builds like this and be prepared to counter them because when you fight any challenging NPC you have to fight several times to learn all the tricks of it and then have to spend time making builds to counter that. But in random PvP(and I stress random) you might fight that guy one time out of 50 or so battles. If you remember a small chunk of his build and can better prepare then you just took a big step towards a chance of winning. But that's meaningless because you only have that one time out of 50 fights, if you even remember it. There are times I fight the same people in less battles and I st have to look at their builds again to make my strategy and how to go about the fight.

To sum it up: NPCs should be allowed this but not players. We have flexibility and can change our builds between battles while they are forced to keep theirs the same

Wow. What purpose would this serve? Let's say you are using a str build with decent support and it's 5 focus with max massacre. You zooka, gun, booster, and then you massacre.
They would be pretty much dead unless you are able to see it (the build).

Not Supported.

drekon -> RE: Hide character build option (10/9/2012 18:44:28)

My thoughts on this are a bit conflicting because I want to keep the entirety of my build a secret from opponents, but I don't think hiding everything is logical for strategic gameplay. For that reason, I think something else should be done.

Instead of showing the build screen, during battle, when you click on an opponent's button, it should show a panel similar to the Mission/Buddy List panel. This panel would display the following data:

Primary
Sidearm
Auxiliary
Robot
Defense
Resistance

The skill tree itself would not be displayed. Perhaps there could be some unlockable special skill (X-Ray Vision) that allows it's user to see an opponent's build.

Kinda Supported-ish! :)

ND Mallet -> RE: Hide character build option (10/9/2012 21:19:56)

@drekon That doesn't do much honestly. I can still see your energy costs to see what level your skills are. Then I can get a rough estimate of what your passives might be with the left over skill points and damage/defs for DA and the passive armors.

drekon -> RE: Hide character build option (10/9/2012 23:35:00)

^ It would make it harder for people to copy builds, while still giving you an idea of the strategy your opponents might use. For example, you may see that your opponent is running a strength build, but you wouldn't know if he has a powerful Double Strike or Maul until he uses it. If you're intent on copying his build, then you would have to meticulously take notes of each attack and make several calculations just to guess the Level of one skill.

ND Mallet -> RE: Hide character build option (10/9/2012 23:38:32)

@drekon Only a little bit harder honestly. All you need to do is write down the cost of the skills and what extra defenses or damage they get from gun to know most of the skills. You don't need all of them right because you would have the skills you use most trained higher than the ones you don't and would use them way more anyways.

Even if i can see it , there's a solid chance that a player would lose to that .

ON TOPIC : I think the skill trees of the classes should be altered or better yet , replaced with new skills , then this feature should top it. So i support .

Scyze -> RE: Hide character build option (10/11/2012 7:21:35)

So cleaver. So damn clever.

You will have no idea what your opponent will do.

RageSoul -> RE: Hide character build option (10/11/2012 7:37:41)

^ Fortunately , so will they .

Mr. Black OP -> RE: Hide character build option (10/11/2012 23:07:13)

So basically we should guess what build our opponent is using... how about no. Why don't we leave the microscopic amount of strategy that is left in this game alone?
NOT (AND NEVER WILL) SUPPORTED

arthropleura -> RE: Hide character build option (10/21/2012 3:42:37)

NO NO NO NO NO. who would be stupid enough not to turn that option on anways? right now im trying a 4 focus infernal poison surgical build. most people overlook the infernal bot until i use it, suprising them and killing them after 9 rounds. now imagine youre blind. the do like 17, 17 20, then suddenly out of nowhere a max surgical. to follow that they kill you with the infernal. that would be annoying

RageSoul -> RE: Hide character build option (10/21/2012 4:26:21)

Why do people keep running around with OPed builds anyway? Isn't that because when a pro makes a build , then noobs follow him / her , looks at skill tree , and then people start demanding those builds to be nerfed? The balance would've been better but not 100% "balanced". And some logical terms : a stranger runs away into some dark and dangerous place , but you don't know what's in it , so are you going to go in there directly?

classifiedname -> RE: Hide character build option (10/22/2012 14:58:30)

@ arthropleura that would actually be a little funny funny, but i don't know if i want that to happen in every battle , because it would get crazy!
i do not support it as you proposed it!

but i would agree to this if they made a new battle mode ( some hardcore PvP mode) where you couldn't see another person's build or energy and just their health. or rather just health and energy

XapApp -> RE: Hide character build option (10/23/2012 1:15:13)

@classifiedname
EpicDuel is a strategy game and I don't see any strategy in your suggestion.

classifiedname -> RE: Hide character build option (10/23/2012 5:52:10)

really....

im going to simply combat that by saying: you have strategies for NPC's and as far as i know you can't see their stats either. so it does permit the strategy you want so badly..

ND Mallet -> RE: Hide character build option (10/23/2012 8:23:03)

@classified Yeah but NPCs also have the same build for the entire game and never change and often use the same strategy on your build so it really isn't all that hard to win. Often times you just need a tank build and you can win since they don't have rage.

SS -> RE: Hide character build option (10/24/2012 6:47:32)

Not supported (can I oppose?).

Lycus -> RE: Hide character build option (10/24/2012 6:50:56)

Thank you for the suggestion, but due to a lot of the reasons stated above: The point of EpicDuel is strategy and battling to counter the oppositions build, and win the battle. This would take away the strategy side of things, and therefore will certainly not be implemented to the game.

That being said, going to lock this up.
