megakyle777 -> AQ3D and OS Fourms Age Close (10/26/2012 9:29:33)

I read this in the OS forum:

quote:

Since this game is being directed at a more mature player base there will be things mentioned or shown in Oversoul itself or on the Oversoul Wiki that are not appropriate for the forums. As the various things that are shown or mentioned in Oversoul or on Oversoul's Wiki may be appropriate for the game that does not make it appropriate for the forums so please keep the =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules in mind when posting. If you are unsure whether what you want to post is in line with the Forum's Rules please PM an Archknight or Moderator in AE Staff and Staff Assistants List for clarification.

Well, you need a age to sign up for the fourms, and AQ3D and Oversoul are for more mature audiences anyway so you need to be over a certain age, so why not just lock those forums to anyone signed up to the forums under a certain age? This allows us to talk about any stuff in game that would not normaly fit for various reasons rather then restricting topics, may well lead to a better forum populence in that area because we are all old enough to know better, and keeps anything from spilling out into other forums.

The problem is that locks out players that get the OK from their parents to play but aren't old enough to actually use that section of the forums, greatly hindering their ability to actually play the game.

The even bigger problem, though, is how insanely easy it is to change your birthdate. It takes all of 30 seconds, and that's if you have to find it in your Profile. The "restriction" wouldn't actually do anything in reality, since people could just go in and change their birthdate, making themselves a few years older than they actually are, gaining access to the supposedly "age-restricted" sections.

The Braken Bard -> RE: AQ3D and OS Fourms Age Close (10/27/2012 6:57:07)

@Catacylsm: Isn't it possible to just lock birth dates? The only ones with a reason to change theirs is because they lied/didn't put the correct date in the first place. And the only reason anyone would do that was because they weren't that age to begin with. Sure someone may put maybe one or two years wrong, but it's not like it's such a big deal that it absolutely needs to be corrected.

On-Topic: I don't think it should happen though. People will lie about their ages anyway so it's not going to make one bit of difference. Might as well save the coders the trouble.
