Noob should be a bad Lang

Mother1 -> RE: Noob (11/3/2012 20:52:42)

It is bad language, and if someone calls you it you can report them for doing so. So there is no reason to support or not support this since it is already so.

He means to include it in language filter, I believe.

deltaknight7 -> RE: Noob (11/3/2012 21:55:28)

Hey Onlythestrong,

While I understand that being called a noob may possibly offend people, it should be noted that words can only offend you if you allow them to. If I called you a fruitcake and you were offended by it, it doesn't necessarily mean that the word fruitcake should be banned.

The current system has it so that only foul, obscene and swear words are blocked, because if we expanded our word range to include any word that just so happens to offend people, then we'd be looking at an impossible mission. It's clear that whenever systems are put in place to block words that allude to certain meanings, then people always find a way to bypass that by inventing another word to describe what the previous word conveyed. If it isn't noob, then folks would probably start using variations of noob, such as froob, choob, nub, nubcake, noobcake, or the aforementioned n00b and N008. Then even after we block all of those, a new trend to replace that word would undoubtedly come into being - you'd probably start seeing folks call each other cabbages, or something else!

In short, the word noob is almost certainly never going to be blocked. Being called a noob is definitely better than being called any other foul terminology that already is blocked, so it's something we'll have to settle for. After all, it's only human nature to desire to express yourself... and unfortunately, anger and frustration happens to be one of those expressions. The only time when players should be punished for their language then, is when they try to bypass the current filtered words, because those are the kind of vocabulary that are classified, by popular consensus and culture, as inappropriate language. The word noob isn't, since it also isn't always necessarily an offensive word when used in various contexts.

Thus, as this is a suggestion that cannot be put into effect for the mentioned reasons, I'm also going to close this suggestion thread. Your thoughts in this matter, however, are appreciated.

Padlockin' up!
