PyroPuppy -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 0:14:05)

Signing up ends!

Stage 2
Over the course of the next 1 - 2 hours, you should get a PM with a name of a forumite (Sending the PMs and finishing the list takes some time!). This will be the forum member that you're making a gift for. As I've stated before, the gift can be any kind of artistic gift, not just digital art. Also written art, a sculpture, and everything else you can think of.
There are absolutely no limitations on your gift. Any filesize, any dimensions. Remember one thing though. Plagiarism isn't accepted, not when regularly posting in the Gallery, and especially not in special events.
All of the gifts must be sent by December 24 1:59 PM. The early hour is because of timezone constraints. You should send the gift to the AK / Moderator who PMed you the first PM, with the name.

Also, I have another special request, which will also require signing up. From my past experience with this kind of events, there are always problems. Your computer die, something sudden happens, and thousand of another scenarios. It isn't the fault of anybody, but one of those scenarios can result a forumite who won't get their gift!
Therefore, I need volunteers, which we will be able to PM and ask for an extra gift. You don't get an extra gift for volunteering, but making sure that all of the people who made a gift will also receive one is a noble goal by itself. Post in this thread for volunteering.

Let the fun begin!

Mecha Mario -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 1:15:55)

I volunteer, but only if it doesn't happen between Late 21st/Early 22nd - 24th EST, as I won't be around those times if extra gifts is needed. If it turns out to happen on those days, the 26th would be the latest I can make extra gifts if needed.

spikedinosaur -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 1:30:10)

I volunteer.

Misty_kitty -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 2:13:14)

Crimson Eagle -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 3:03:43)

I Volunteer!
So sorry! I can barely find time to do my own! I'll hope to have it done!
~Cleany

Akecza -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 7:01:25)

A volunteer... Extra gift, huh? I can do it!

Also does my gift has to be AE-related?

Your gift doesn't have to be AE-related if you don't want :) ~ AlphaAtom

Geek -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 8:26:52)

I enjoy this stuff!

I am in for volunteering!

Hopeful Guy -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 12:08:24)

Mr Popcorn -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/11/2012 12:33:40)

Do we need to give a present everyday?

I am volunteering! :D

By the way, good luck with all the art and poems :P I hope you're going to enjoy the Event!

Please don't double post, but no, you only need to send one gift before the deadline. Make sure you follow all the instructions in the personal message! :) ~ AlphaAtom

Do you mean sent by Dec. 24?

We did. ~ AlphaAtom

PyroPuppy -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/12/2012 3:37:50)

I was asked a number questions, and since each question was asked a couple of times, there might be at least another person who wonders the same:

You said before the artwork must be original. Can I use stock images I found on the web?
Yes and no. The artwork must be original, but for years artists have used artworks of others to create newer, more awesome pieces of artwork, like signatures. Yet, you can't use every piece of artwork you find on the web. Quoting from the rules of The Gallery:
quote:

Ripping
"Ripping" for these purposes shall be defined as the use of another's art without permission. The consequences will be severe for anyone found ripping someone else’s art. If you think that your art, or someone else's, has been ripped, please PM superjars; do not post about it. Rip cases are private, between the accuser, the alleged ripper, and the original creator of the artwork in question. Any post on the forum accusing someone of ripping will be seen as flaming and be treated as such. Please include as much information as possible in the PM so it can be taken care of quickly. If the person under question for ripping is found out not to have ripped, the case will be dropped without repercussion.

What will happen if I don't finish the gift before the 24th?
Nothing. Nothing will happen if you don't finish the gift. This is why I asked for volunteers above to help with extra gifts, in case someone can't create one. If you already know you won't be able to create a gift on time, you should PM me already.

Edit: Wouldn't uploading the image and giving a link be a giveaway anyway?
Depends on the site in which you upload the image. For an example, for images, you can use Tinypic which is anonymous.

Last, thanks to all of the volunteers above!

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them here or send me a PM.

Legendium -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/12/2012 8:42:31)

So I'm not completely clear with the ripping thing.

So if we know someone made a piece of art, we aren't allowed to use it? Because technically every piece of art on the web was made by someone.

I'm assuming this means things like renders can be used, but no full works, like already made signatures?

PyroPuppy -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/12/2012 8:47:20)

The type of the artwork usually helps. Photography, renders, screenshots and artwork on which the artist says "You can use the art for free" usually are usable. Yet, signatures like you suggested, not. Wallpapers, digital art, and such usually aren't free to use, unless, of course, the artist gave you the permission to do so.

Legendium -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/12/2012 9:20:20)

So, so long as I can't find anything saying I can't use it, I'm free to?
Secondly, if I plan on rendering something out of a screenshot from AE, I would be allowed, seeing as this is the official AE forums?
Last but not least, should the person we are giving to have their own artwork, and we wish to surprise them by making something with a part of their work inclusive, would we be allowed? I think not, but it's always nice to check.

Asuka -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/12/2012 10:15:59)

I also have a question that I'm wondering.

Can someone take a scenery of work (A Wallpaper specifically), and leave it in their shape and form, But add their own poem/Wording like a poem of such? Like a really neat Christmas card?

Alpha Atom -> RE: Secret Santa Event (12/12/2012 11:27:00)

If the work is not yours, and the work is licensed in such a way that you are not permitted to use it, you may not use it. So, if the wallpaper is copyrighted or the source states you cannot use it, then you may not. Otherwise you are free to use whatever you want.
