What if SmokeScreen and Malfunction doesn't affect a player's block rate and deflection rate?

arthropleura -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/4/2013 8:01:59)

Dunno, you tell me o_O
So they only affect skills and armor?
That kinda puts them on par with intimidate I guess...

Mother1 -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/4/2013 12:05:54)

In order for them to do this they would have to work like the opposites of defense matrix and energy shield Meaning take away pure defense and pure resistance. However the scaling of these debuffs would need to be changed because support and tech builds would destroy you if left the way it is.

You ever fought those support mages with malf as well as support CH with malf or a Tech BH with high smoke? Some of them are capable of removing 40-50+ dex/tech. Image if it was like that with pure defense and resist. Attacks would be much more lethal with this and people would be relying on luck a whole lot more to get blocks or deflections and you know how some people are when it comes to luck.

theholyfighter -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/5/2013 7:03:16)

Lol? From where did I say it should take away pure def and resis?! It's like making something up and saying no to it as if someone else made it. Huh?

Mother1 -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/5/2013 8:55:26)

In order for it do that it would need to do that. Remember dex is what makes you more likely to block, and tech is the same for deflects. If you want debuffs to leave these alone you would need to either

1 make the 2 debuffs not take dex and tech but defense and resist away so dex and tech remain the same hence not affect block and deflection chance

or

2 move blocks and deflections away from dex and tech and put them on another stat. However doing so would be nerfing dex and tech and powering up whatever stat or stats you switched them to.

theholyfighter -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/5/2013 8:59:46)

How'd you get that info? Any quote from the devs? Or something like that?

Smoke and Malf can simply reduce your Def/Resis without lowering your block rate and your deflection rate. Dexterity does affect defense and block rate, but they're not the same. Same goes with tech.

Mother1 -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/5/2013 9:06:40)

@ theholyfighter

Did you not read my first post? That is what I said in it so it would affect it. Working the opposite of defense matrix and energy shield is just that reducing pure defense and pure resistance since energy shield increases pure resist and defense matrix does that for pure defense.

However as I stated support builds for TM and CH as well as Tech and strength build would abuse this like it is now only worse since weather you think about it or not this would be a buff for smoke an malf.

ED Prince of Shadows -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/5/2013 9:15:09)

Seems like people are targeting the most basic skills nowadays. They should stay the same because Intimidate can destroy entire types of builds without breaking a sweat, making it better than smoke and malf in some case (ie Infernal Android 5 focus tank). If they targeted def/res alone, then they would have to be rather good to exchange for the removal of their other benefits, which people will no doubt call OP.

rayniedays56 -> RE: Block Rate & Deflection Rate (1/5/2013 9:57:59)

I agree with mother1 on this one. For you to be able to minus technology and dexterity, you would need to take off the special attributes that each stat gives:

"Dexterity: Increases Physical Defense, increases the chance to block, and enhances certain skills. (See Stat Progression)"

"Technology: Increases Energy Resistance, Robot damage, deflection chance and enhances certain skills. (See Stat Progression and Robot Technology Bonus)"

That would need to happen, which is highly unlikely.
