Why arn't we allowed to post our age but we can show our date of birth on our profiles if we want?

It's the difference between displaying your age – which may be true or may be false, for whatever reason – out of sight, where someone must manually seek it out, and putting yourself at risk by calling attention to your age in a public area, where it is assumed you are telling the truth (and if you aren't then there can really be no complaint about removing any mention of your age).
