The Tempest *A Note to All Participating: Please re-post your Intros from the Third Section of the Role Playing Academy upon your graduation here, as it will greatly aid with the transition. Thank You! Rules: 1. The Universal Forum Rules still apply to everything posted in relation to this RP. 2. There is to be no godmodding, (unpermitted) bunnying, or metagaming of any sort in this RP. 3. You must understand that your character’s actions will bear consequences, and be willing to accept them, regardless of whether they are what you wanted to happen or not. Plan accordingly. 4. You must be willing to accept my authority as Threadmaster. If I say NO to something, then it means that there is a darn good reason why you can't do that. 5. You must be willing to read what is written, regardless of whether you think it doesn't affect you or not. One plotline which does not involve you now could very well involve you within the space of a single post. 6. There is to be no combat whatsoever inside of the Tempest. 7. Food and drink (subject to the Universal Rules) may be ordered while in the Common Room. 8. The minor bunnying of the Tempest staff, with the exception of its owner, Garth Eesos, is permitted to help you make your posts. 9. Any remaining questions that you have are to be directed to Ryu Viranesh. 10. Most importantly, have fun. Background: The Badlands are a large swathe of land bordered by mountains on the west and by a desert in the south. Geologically, they mostly consist of plains and hilled regions, with a few copses of woods and a small forest in the northeast. Of note, there are several large cave systems that crisscross the underground of the Badlands. Weather-wise, rain is fairly common with snow being almost unheard of. Temperatures range from 33 degrees Fahrenheit to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (about 0.6 degrees Celsius to 21 degrees Celsius) on a particularly cold or hot day respectively. The amount of creatures that can be found in the Badlands is quite varied, ranging from small rodents like rats and rabbits to monsters like manticores and even a small drake or two. Rumors say that there’s treasure there, and a few even claim to have found valuable artifacts, but none know the true breadth of what might be found in the region. The Tempest is an inn situated near the very heart of the Badlands and has been there for close to 20 years now, providing food and shelter for many of the delvers when they need it most. The main building is composed of stone bricks, hand-chiseled by Garth and some of the original staff. It’s where the common room and the front desk are found and thus where the entrance to the inn is located. Today, the building is where only the highest paying guests are allowed to stay the night, the rooms furnished with extra amenities such as a personal washbasin (other guests are required to use communal baths), access to room service, and a complementary fur robe. Over the years, as the Tempest has grown more and more popular, additions to the original structure were required. This led to the construction of the many wooden longhouses that extend from the back of the inn (via a breezeway) and further into the wilderness. Each longhouse has two full floors of rooms, each of the same quality and available for the same price. To elaborate, the average room consists of a full bed, a desk and a chair, a smooth wooden floor, a small fur rug, and perhaps most important, insulation from the cold. * This is a character-driven RP, meaning that while there is no overarching plot, you are very much free to do as you please so long as you abide by the RPs rules. However, it also means that you must be willing to make the effort to work your character into the RP. Host or not, I will not do it for you. With such a broad setting, it should not be difficult. Many types of characters are welcome in the Badlands, and there are many varied different reasons that they could be there. Be creative, show me that you can come up with something original and interesting and then bring it to life in the RP.
