Grixus Faldor -> Regarding Necroposting in the OOC Room (1/15/2013 0:06:35)

I believe that necroposting in the OOC Room should be allowed provided that the necropost in question is constructive and meaningful and because of the following reasons:
  • It allows users to directly address questions/concerns/issues raised in prior posts with ease, given that said posts will be in the one thread. Whereas, making a completely new thread, users will have to quote content for content (and given that the quote button was removed from posts) and that process is rather tedious if there are plenty to address.
  • It centralises discussion on the same topics: i.e. discussions will be located within a collection of topics and not scattered all over the forum.
And just to make myself clear, I'm not advocating a wholesale allowal of necroposting as that would not yield any positive results or outcomes, rather I'm proposing allowing necroposting within the constraints of common sense and where the post-to-be-made is of a constructive nature.

Just an addendum: I am proposing this because of the masses of topics which have been locked due to necroposting, this doesn't serve to fuel discussion as is the intention, but rather it serves to make OOC seem rather intimidating. In quite a few cases, the necroposts aren't inherently stupid or otherwise rule-breaking. If the OOC Room is to be a place which encourages and fosters intelligent and thoughtful discussions, the first thing to do is eliminate barriers to discussion. It doesn't matter how old a topic is, that shouldn't even be a factor behind preventing further discussion. It gives off a bad impression and only serves, as I said before, to discourage discussion rather than encourage it.

(I understand bumping isn't permitted, but I feel this issue is important as it may help to increase activity in OOC and avoid the problem of having split threads)

I agree entirely with this. It does generally fall under the "common sense" issue, if it has something to add, I think that being able to necropost an old thread would be constructive and overall a great thing to do in order to get some activity going, rather than locking every thread that gets necro'd despite the relevancy of the new post(s). It also benefits by not causing a bunch of clutter, why make a whole new thread when you can recycle the old thread that has a previous discussion and more information in it, it'll allow the old discussion to continue and it prevents the same questions from being asked multiple times. Lock the thread once it reaches the page limit, rinse and repeat. I think it's a good idea.

sithdragon123 -> RE: Regarding Necroposting in the OOC Room (2/15/2013 0:26:06)

I agree with this too. If the topic is good and the new post is sensible and will rekindle discussion then why stop it?

Supportwed 100%. It's inefficient to have to make a new thread on the topic because your constructive and purposeful reply was late.

araxia -> RE: Regarding Necroposting in the OOC Room (2/21/2013 22:20:09)

I support this idea, but different people have different boundaries for "common sense." One person might view something in an entirely different way than another.

This issue is being dealt with and if any alterations are made to the ruling then such change will be made known to you. Thank you all for your concern and post. At this time I will lock this thread.

Edit: New rule in OOC:
  • Necrobumping
Given the nature of the OOC, topics have the ability to sustain themselves for a long time. Sometimes, a topic will go quiet, only to be looked into after a short time. As such, necrobumping will only be an issue if the post in question has no value whatsoever and is done to bring the topic back to the top of the list. If a post is added to a thread that has gone more than 14 days without a response in order to continue intelligent and meaningful conversation, then it will not be a violation of the OOC rules.

    Thank you,

    Eukara Vox
    Head of OOC
