Core Concerns
Hey there, quick post. I was working on a big DN post elaborating on Core and some other key Omega features, but I relized some of these items are too difficult to explain even in the simplest terms. Our testers are hard at work on Omega videos to demonstrate Cores and other Omega features. These should be much clearer than a paragraph or even a series of screenshots. Next week, we will be posting a series of detailed Design Notes about Omega and it's features, including compensation for players with enhancements, a detailed breakdown of cores and how they work, EpicDuel beyond Omega, and a specific release date (for real this time!)

Stay tuned as development continues!

Compensation news soon?
Finally

ReinXI -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2012 (1/18/2013 22:32:46)

indeed and I love how the compensation news will probably be more important to people than the actual release date xD
looking forward to some new updates on progress!

l Chop Suey l -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/18/2013 22:35:14)

YES! this is the news I wanted but we have to wait next week lol I hope this impacts everyone.[:@] The more details we get, the more excitement ED is going to be. The only thing I am getting out of Delta Phase is npc wins until Omega begins Period.

ED Prince of Shadows -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/18/2013 22:40:04)

I think it's delayed again, but I am very excited for the upcoming design notes.

SouL Prisoner -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/18/2013 23:08:12)

Next week release date announcement hmmmm it only means we still have 2-3 to go.for omega ...

Lol, not sure if its a good news or bad ...

Blitzex/Sr. Zeph -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 0:08:27)

Thats what i was thinking too. If they announce it good next week.
It wont be this january anymore.

But thank god, info about the compensation.

Thylek Shran -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 0:19:55)

My bet 2 weeks ago was that Omega will be released in February.
13 days to there...

SouL Prisoner -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 1:05:14)

Lol. Maybe v should make a thread in which players can bet when omega is coming :D

Winners get yeti ticket :P

Calogero -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 5:26:54)

Mark my words of my prediction of Omega

like I said ingame: Mid February - Begin March is my prediction xD

Remorse -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:01:54)

Good news,

I hope if needed,

Core mechanics are influenced by player opinions in forums before being fully released in omega.

The Tactical merc disaster back when the released the classes could of been avoided in player opinions were offered before it being released.

Though I hope the testers do a good enough job not to miss an flaws.

Xendran -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:05:03)

@Remorse they dont have enough manpower to properly test balance, in my opinion.

rayniedays56 -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:07:38)

Oh they just need supports and huggles Xendran!!!

JOIN DA LOVE MON!!!

*huggles*

Remorse -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:19:34)

@ xendran,

Honestly in some things that slip through no testing was needed to determine it is unbalanced or cause further issues, yet they implement it.

Like all the luck based skill cores out currently.

Yes you can test to see if they are overpowered or not in battles but Im not sure if they considered the fact that players complain about luck enough as it is!! Im happy with normal luck (blocks, deflects, crits.) but I dont like the fact that skill cores like Massive strike, frostbite, pyro fly, steel thorns, and the Halloween pumpkin just worsen luck determination in battle.

Perhaps the problem is the ideas being tested in the first place, I cant say its the testers fault when they are asked to test something most player would disagree to begin with.

Because if the ideas for skill cores were more like those of xendrans list then the testers could test something players agree with to start with.

Im not sure if its the case already but if not then I think it is the testers that should come up with the ideas to test if they are balance battle related, rather then, no offense to the devs, them coming up with the ideas even though they lack in battle experience.

Though I do agree that they need more testing help, and perhaps rather then just the testers role being test, but also come up with the ideas which are more battle balanced related (such as skill cores) to begin with.

Ranloth -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:21:59)

I like luck-based skill cores such as Massive Strike, Pyro Fly, etc. They add a bit more fun since they are unpredictable yet can be balanced. Some people like luck, that doesn't mean you have to get rid off it because you may not like it. RNG is always there yet it cannot be taken out for obvious reasons.

Xendran -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:25:49)

Most important part right there. The CAN be balanced... but they aren't yet.

Remorse -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:27:02)

@ trans,
Please do not accuse me of wanting luck to be removed.

I said im fine with blocks, deflects and crits, WHY because they are manageable, and they do a good enough job of making it so everyone stands a chance in battle.

If you dont want to get blocked, dont strike, if you dont like being deflected and critted get supp and tech.

I like these luck styles because they can be managed, and managed well if your a smart player.

I completely dislike any type of luck which are completely random, cant be managed and are game changing based on a single occurrence.

Hence if this continues epic duel will turn into nothing but a battle of luck, in which case they can scrap anything to do with strategy because its completely destroyed by random luck.

Mother1 -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 6:55:48)

@ remorse

While I know you hate Random luck that can't be controlled remove anything that is random luck that can't be controlled would be punishing those who brought those promos and items. How would that be fair?

Also I have to ask you this? If you are ok with crits how come you don't like the massive strike item? Unlike the others it works with the same crits that can be managed that you said you were ok with, but only add 15% more damage to that crit?

rayniedays56 -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 7:02:36)

@mother1

Actually, it doesn't add EXTRA damage, it just adds 15% more IGNORE for the crit.

So, in reality, it ignore 65% defenses.

Stacked with Rage, this is a VERY fun weapon *grinz*

Remorse -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 7:04:46)

@ mother, I dont think they should be removed, it would be nice if they could change it. however I doubt both those options and am only highlighting the fact the devs need to introduce better ideas first before they are handed to the testers to test.

Skill cores have potential to fix many balance issues by offering counters, or at least not worsen issues that players have with balance already. WHY do the devs implement the ideas that ignore the first two options and actually worsen balance.... I do not know. (My opinion )

This also scares me greatly when omega is introduced, I have no idea if they released their errors with old skill cores and actually plan balance improving cores for omega.

In regards to the massive strike is its because it turns crits into a more game changing luck factor same goes with any other skill core that would enhance current negative luck methods.

Luck is fine they way it is without skill cores enhancing it,

Yes the reason luck is needed is made clear, this DOES NOT MEAN that the devs should ignore the constant complaints about it and make it worse, rather then leaving it as is.

rayniedays56 -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 7:07:45)

@remorse

Mark of Azrael gives +5% extra crit while the lucky weapons give +5% extra hit. :)

Remorse -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 7:10:29)

^ I dislike the azreal skill core also.

However I like the connectivity increase skill core.

Any positive luck skill core Im fine with since it does not create totally random RNG and it does not induce game breaking effects.

Mother1 -> RE: =ED= Core Concerns - January 18, 2013 (1/19/2013 7:18:02)

@ raynie

The lucky strike weapons give 2% and the blade give 7%

@ remorse

The Azreal core only works with strikes. It is limited to strikes nothing more nothing less. Only massive strike works with everything.
