Enough is Enough

The Enough is Enough Discussion Thread can be found here.

Summary: The Rose has gone too far. And the Hero of Lore is not happy about what they have been doing in her absence.

Disclaimer: I do not own DragonFable or any of the other franchise that can be associated with it. I do, however, own the hero of this story. Also, I've already posted this on Fanfiction, but I thought I would type it up here as well.

It is still hard to believe that so much had changed within the span of five years.

For five years I had been encased in a block of ice conjured up by Warlic and Xan's sweetheart Jaania, alongside the Blue Mage and his enemy, paralyzed and unable to do anything.

Except watch, make out vague shadows of those who visited me and listen as time marched on while I was forced to remain in my icy prison.

On occasion during my forced entrapment, I could hear my friends as well as people who know of me by my title dropping by my prison. I couldn't really see them; I could only make them out by their blurry figures. I was able to easily tell apart those I knew through the sounds of their voices. Unfortunately, I couldn't make out what they were really saying at the time. The words that I did hear often though were often 'magic', 'Lore', and 'Rose'.

It didn't make sense to me then.

And it wasn't until Warlic finally broke me out of that ice that I started piercing the pieces together.

The people who had visited me weren't talking about a flower. The Rose that they were referring to was a cult that was led by -surprise, surprise- the very Jaania who not only froze me, but her former friends as well.

She had taken advantage of my absence and fed to the masses lies that magic was the source of all the conflicts that had afflicted Lore.

Already scared and frightened by the events that had occurred, the people were easily swayed by her words.

I was forced to admit that what she said held a grain of truth: Sepulchure's ambitions of gathering the elemental orbs and fusing it into one form, the Fire War, the Elemental dissonance when Warlic was split...

Taking those into account, magic had caused a lot of grief and strife. And Jaania had used that point to gather support among the masses and formed the cult that was now not only abusing its power, but was -pardon my use of words- fighting fire with fire. They were going after magic with anti-magic weapons and magic.

I had laughed at the sheer hypocrisy of what they were aiming to do and the means they were using to achieve their ultimate goal.

Magic could be used for both good and evil. It depended on the person who was using magic in the first place.

Good people use their magic for the benefits of not only themselves but others as well.

Evil used their magic for their own selfish ambitions with no regard for the suffering of others.

Guess which category the Rose fell in?

It wasn't just the essence of magic and those who were using magic that they were going after. Their anti-magic rules extended to the elimination of magical creatures as well as other species whose way of living revolved around this essential art.

Not even one hour after I was defrosted from my frozen prison and running after Rolith -who had apparently quit the knights- that I saw a few Mana Hunters punting around Twilly just because he happened to be a creature associated with magic.

I had made sure they paid for that.

Ever since the Rose came to power -with our so-called good King Alteon's support- every other species that was not human and who usually had their lifestyles ingrained with magic found themselves being displaced from their homes, marked down as 'dangerous'. Falconreach was much more crowded than it had been in the past with magic users and those whose livelihoods revolved around magic taking refuge from the Rose in the only huge town that would ensure their safety and freely welcomed them for who they were.

The fact that my dragon and partner, Lux, made it through this ordeal unscathed was a miracle. I had feared for him when I heard about how that damned cult was going about things.

And that was not the worst of it.

On occasion I have witnessed Rose members abusing their power from extorting money from unsuspecting travelers, to shutting down the homes of people they suspecting of keeping magic contraband, encountering monsters who the Rose have enslaved through their technology...

The more I witnessed what the Rose have been doing the past five years, the more disgusted I became.

I saw the ruins of Popsrocket, the city that my gnome friends had once lived in. Even now, I do not know where my friend Yix is. I can only pray that he is out there somewhere, waiting for someone to find and rescue him.

Many people in the past have remarked on my compassion. On my ability to forgive those who have wronged me, even if they thought that they did not deserve my forgiveness. And I have been told more than once that it was both my strong point and my weak.

But now...

The Rose has gone too far.

I cannot find it within myself to extend any compassion or understanding towards Jaania and the organization she founded. The amount of pain and suffering they have caused my friends during these past five years, they have caused for ALL of Lore's inhabitants while I was incapacitated...

I cannot forgive them.

Not this time.

Enough is Enough.

As Hero of Lore, I, Clare Pendragon, will do everything within my power to make the Rose burn.

Enough is Enough - Expansion

Summary: The Hero has a few things to say to Jaania and gives the Leader of the Rose a little rant of her own.

Disclaimer: I do not own DragonFable or any franchise associated with it. I do, however, own Clare Pendragon who is very angry about what has been going on during her icy imprisonment.

The sound of flesh hitting flesh echoed throughout the room as the Hero of Lore smacked the Leader of the Rose right across the face. Hard.

Everyone in King Alteon's throne room looked on in stunned silence, their minds trying to process what had just happened.

It was the right hand of the Rose's leader, General Akanthus, who snapped out of it first to address the Hero.

"You!" He growled, lifting his weapon and charging at Lore's Hero. "How dare you-"

General Akanthus was cut off as the Hero brought up her sword to deflect the blow. Her blue eyes glared coldly at him as she pushed him back with the swing of her sword.

"Shut. Up."

A shiver ran down the spines of nearly all of those present. Lady Jaania and General Akanthus may have been among the most powerful people in all of Lore since the Rose came to power, but there was no denying who held the real power in the room at this exact moment.

Clare Pendragon, Dragon Lord, Hero of Lore, the one who defeated SMUDD and destroyed the Ultimate Orb... was not someone who should easily be trifled with. She radiated the strength and power as anyone with her experience would. It was dangerous to make an enemy out of her and right now, she was proving to be even more so now that she had displayed through her actions that she would not show anyone who came at her any mercy.

Which, right now, extended towards members of the Rose.

"That was for Warlic, you-" Here Clare called Lady Jaania something that had General Akanthus bellowing in outrage and most people gasping in shock. The blonde took no notice as she continued addressing the Leader of the Rose in a way that no one had -no one would ever dare to- since they the Rose had taken over.

The blue haired woman's eyes flashed at the mention of her former friend's name, one of who she had imprisoned within the ice alongside Clare.

"Do not mention that monster's name to me-"

Jaania was barely able to get the sentence out when Clare backhanded the woman on the other cheek (the one that she hadn't hit) as she took a step forward, her eyes burning with disgust and anger at how callously the mage could refer to someone she had been friends with and had trained alongside with in the past.

"Don't you ever refer to him as a monster," Clare snarled, her voice and gaze as cold as the frozen glaciers of Dragesvard. "He's a thousand times better a person than you'll ever be and deserves better. I don't even know what he sees in you."

Clare stomped forward, fists clenched as Jaania began to back away, looking wary of the girl. When she had first heard of the 'Hero of Lore' finally breaking out of her ice, she had scoffed. Even if she had saved Lore several of times, she had easily been caught off guard and frozen beside the strongest mages in the world at the time. But now that she had already sabotaged several hideouts, hacked through her men like they were nothing more than annoying obstacles in her way and gotten several towns to rebel against her organization... she would have to re-evaluate her opinion on the Hero.

"I've saved the world from eternal darkness, had to deal with Wargoth, been frozen in a block of ice and," Clare broke out into laughter. "get released from said imprisonment to discover that you form an ANTI-MAGIC CULT IN MY ABSENCE WITH THE MISGUIDED IDEAL OF ELIMINATING MAGIC!"

Her eyes were narrowed as she continued.

"Do you know what I saw, Jaania?" The hero's voice was light, nearly playful and teasing. But the look in her eyes told one that she was anything but. "Your organization abusing its power and bullying the commons people, enslavement of magical creatures, the displacement of thousands of people from their homes, the destruction of Popsrocket, the imprisonment and torture of people for their association with magic..."

The Hero laughed.

"I'll admit, a lot of things are my fault. Konnan's descent to darkness, the Elemental dissonance-" She started laughing again. "And a lot of things are Warlic's fault as well. Particularly you and the pyromancer Xan. But look at what you have done! You and your misguided organization! This is just as bad as Sepulchure and Wargoth! Did it not even occur to you that removing magic from a land so embedded with it would result in the world's destruction? Did it not occur to you that your actions would result in the genocide of countless other species whose livelihoods depend on magic? WELL?!"

Clare caught herself, taking a deep breath and then raising her sword and leveling it at Jaania's throat.

"You and the Rose may have started with good intentions at the beginning, but now your organization is nothing more than a power hungry, abusing dictatorship." Clare tilted her head slightly, a small smile on her face. "I remember your last words, even after you sealed us in that ice. What were they?"

She chuckled.

"Oh yes. They were 'whatever it takes'. And now, five years later, I am going to give them back to. I'll stop you and your misguided organization, and I'll do whatever it takes to bring you to your knees."
