Riffus Maximus -> RP Idea (2/8/2013 20:51:28)

Not sure if I can post something like that here, but heh, I don't know where else I could post this.

Hey guys, been a while since I actually did something here. For those who RPed with me before, y'all know that I don't usually fancy hosting RPs, less create one myself. There was this one time I enjoyed doing so though, and I feel like doing it again.

But of course, I don't want to create a RP out of the blue without knowing what you guys prefer doing. For those who can remember The Assassins' Guild, my RP is originally something similar, although the players are not assasins (unless they want to). In fact, I would prefer to say that the RP I'm speaking of is not entirely the whole concept, but rather the world I created for it. I want to know what type of RP you guys would like to be part of. Would you like it to be free-roaming, like what The Assassins' Guild was at the beginning, or would you refer a RP focused on a single plotline, with a few side-quests? Or something different, like faction wars, or just something like a slice-of-life kind of RP?

Since we are no longer bound to only the AE universe, I'd like you guys to take a look at the setting I made a while ago for another forum, tell me what you think of it, and what you think you would like to do in that world. If you have any question to get a better grasp of the world in order to help you think of something, feel free to PM me, or better, ask them here so I can share the knowledge with everyone else.

To resume all this, I intend to make a RP depending on what you guys would like to do in the world I propose.

Here's the world setting: Click here!

I think the most popular type of roleplay is anything to do with player versus player. Faction Wars is an example, but they tend to be more 'large-scale'.

I think an overarching linear plotline with some PvP thrown into the mix would be a decent idea. I've thought of several of these kind of ideas, but the general jist is that their are two teams, both trying to achieve different goals that conflict with one another. A 'pursuit' kind of roleplay. Even go so far as to have several different plots all related to each other and tying up at the end simultaneously. For example:

The Varian Horde is invading Canan. Queen Koren and her bodyguards must flee Canan and make it to Renalta to request reinforcements. Meanwhile the Varian Chieftains will stop at nothing to capture the Queen and burn her kingdom. However a brave General and his captains stand in their way. However that'd require a lot of players (the Queen and her party, the General and his captains, and the Varian Chieftains; perhaps even the Renaltan Generals and their enemy).

I'm honestly looking forward to some PvP and free-roam. Unfortunately, free-roam is sort of hard to keep going cause of a lack of a good narrative. The Tempest is a good idea for a 'free-roam', but I think an even better idea would be to put a complex set of storylines in a single world and then let the players loose in the world, free to do as they please. Well, The Tempest is a good idea is what I mean; however, I think another good idea is to say "hey, here is a world; this is a war, this is a conflict, this is a political situation, here are some guilds, here are some exploration quests to colonize a new land, etc". You know, add some storylines into the free-roam that players can actively pursue or completely ignore, maybe some of the storylines interfere with each other, leading to PvP, cooperation, etc.

Also, I have skimmed over the world setting but did not read any into it, will do it later (perhaps).

We are actually already building a world in another thread.
It seems pretty interesting if you want to look it over. Although right now it's just bare-bones, a planet with neither people nor cultures yet.
And personally, I think free roam is usually fun, but it's good when free-roam evolves into a plot; but a plot created by what the players originally did in their free roam. When the plot appeals to everyone, the RP is much more fun.

TJByrum -> RE: RP Idea (2/9/2013 10:41:30)

@Legendium: Exactly (about the plot). Free-roam only works when everything ties up and collaboration is used. If players ignore each other and pursue entirely different plots that never have anything to do with each other it will probably die, and fast too.

On the subject of the whole 'create-a-world' kind of thing, I've always wanted to do a god-like RP where we're gods and we create a world from scratch.

Riffus Maximus -> RE: RP Idea (2/9/2013 11:18:02)

@Legend: Aye, I know of that thread, but it died. Plus, the main point isn't to create the world (it has already been made), it's to know what you guys want to do in that world.

I have to admit, the first thing I wanted to do with this RP the first time I GMed it was to let people do a bit of free-roaming, doing quests on their own before stumbling upon something that might involve all of them into a plotline.

Legendium -> RE: RP Idea (2/10/2013 13:56:06)

@Riffus

Aye, that thread is long dead by now. But it would have been fun to RP in that place.

@TJByrum

You know, a great idea is forming in my head now. But everyone would have two characters, one a god and one a normal person. The first few posts could be about the creation of the world, and the rest could be about the normal person. Only, to avoid godmodding, the god can only come into play once every 30 pages. It's the barebones of an idea, but still an idea.
