Vypie -> New battle animations (2/10/2013 20:14:10)

In one of the Design notes during November, They have talked about reworking the animation of the characters. quote:
Charfade and I have been working hard on improving one of the fundamental elements of EpicDuel -- the character model. This element is one of the oldest parts of EpicDuel and it doesn't wear it's age well. We've learned a great deal in our time working at Artix Entertainment, but we needed some fresh perspectives to breathe new life into our characters so we assembled Yergen, Samba, and Cysero to assist us. After an overwhelmingly informative session in which we acted out possible EpicDuel animations with Nerf weapons, we gathered the notes and set about tearing down basic character animations and poses to make the model more dynamic. This is a change that everyone will notice. It will make the game look more appealing to new players, while making battle feel fresh and exciting for veterans. This is something I was really expecting for Omega, but it seems the new animations did not make it. I wonder if they were they removed from the 'to do' list.... maybe they are being worked on scecretly. :P More dynamic and awesome animations would bring a new feel into the game, making it much more rich and epic. What do you think of the current animations? Should they create new ones? For me, the current ones are a bit dull and they lack personality. They move like robots when striking and walking. I specially find the walking back into position (after a melee strike) a bit silly. Turning around to walk 2 steps, and then instantly running at top speed, moving the legs in the air like if you were going to run a bigger distance. And then stopping abruptly in mid-animation to turn around. We need momentum, acceleration, and physics in general going on. We can have different ways of moving across the battle field, like leaping, jumping back still facing the enemy, Sliding after the initial step, etc. New, unique ways of approaching the enemy could be integrated with a skill animation, such as lunging to attack, or for example, a Merc, readying his weapon in the air while on his way to the enemy. Or a Bounty hunter, running in a lower position, preparing himself with the Claws retracted, and the unleashing them forward to pierce the enemy. What are your opinions?
