Anything set in the real world has a genre of its own called Slice of Life.

Like for example, in Japan or USA but not necessarily in this Earth, our Earth. As long as it borders mostly on real elements, the dimension can be an alternate Earth.

My RP has some magic in it too with a fantasy-driven backstory.

Legendium -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 11:20:27)

@Arthur

While it'd be wonderful, there are two problems I see in it. First off, it'd be rather hard to pull off, keeping the border between magic and reality clear. Secondly, it would fill up one of our non-AE oriented spots, which I'm sure many others would like to place in fantasy worlds like LotR.

Arthur -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 13:22:06)

While the first problem is as good as solved, let me address the second one.

I was thinking that perhaps with all the fantasy, adventure genre RPs going on in our RP Boards for the last 6-7 years, a SoL RP would serve as a respite. I understand this trouble, but in any case, let me throw it out there for you guys to judge.

Of Dragons and Hunters

The Story:
Fifteen centuries ago, when Dragons and Humans still co-existed, a treachery on part of the Humans triggered a major war, the Dragon War wherein the Ancient Elemental Dragons battled against the Human Hunters who had decided to take a stand for the Human side. This war raged for five years before finally, both sides perished even as no one emerged victorious. The battlefield was barren, lined with corpses of Dragons and Humans. All had ended with the Hunter Families and the Dragons. At least for that century.

Present Times:

Its the year 2013 and in the peaceful town of Shibuya, there live in the Yamada household, teenagers from different nationalities and backgrounds. The only thing that they all have in common is that they are all reincarnations of the Ancient Elemental Dragons. Even though this past is hidden deep inside them, most still retain their childishness while trying to cope with others. Almost all of them being school/college-goers, they all have different natures and outlooks on life. However, Adrian Yamada and Callin-Shao Tebryst are the ones to praise for having kept them safe and hidden for those who are out to hunt them. Yes, even as the Dragons have been reincarnated, so have the Hunter families carried on. Living right here in Shibuya in the common Hunter suburb, these wary Hunters are also mostly college-goers. And even though these two groups are vastly unaware of each others' presence, what should happen should they discover each other? Perhaps, another War, more destruction in this modern world.

No matter what, there is more to these events than is apparent.

(And yes, you get to have elemental skills and Dragon Form. Even Hunters are element-locked. And if Dragon and Hunter of conflicting elements get too close, like shaking hands or hugging each other when they meet at school or anywhere else, there travels a strong static spark between them followed by a gust of air. So yeah, a dead give-away that you are a Dragon or Hunter, provided, you know of this conflicting elements theory.

So you see, this RP is as much a game of mind as of power. ;)

What say?

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 13:59:55)

The RP itself isn't bad, but i'm completely and totally biased for a LotR RP, so...
Honestly, what can I say.

Legendium -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 14:37:36)

@Arthur

All doubts have been cleared. My vote is in with this RP, since we have two slots for non-AE related stuff. This plus a LotR RP will do fine, along side the MQ, DF, AQW, and AQ RPs that will fill the AE related slots. Actually, for the AE RPs, I want to see much more involvement with the original storylines of the games. Not just, "Halfway across the world, there was a kingdom in which this RP will take place." I think we should really use the settings given for once. We could make a perfect academy RP out of MQ: G.E.A.R.S. University.

Arthur -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 14:47:40)

We need to plead with Jars for an extension, don't we?

Atleast one additional "Non-AE" spot needs to be there.

For like,

1 Fanfiction RP like LoTR, etc.
1 Original Universe RP
1 Real World RP like Zombie RPs or as I suggested.

6 is just a bit less.

Legendium -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 14:51:25)

@Arthur

I think our attempt at "Original Universe" RP failed miserably a while ago. It may be that we don't need to carry out that RP slot.

Arthur -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 14:56:38)

Hmm... then perhaps we need a Slot Lock.

For example, 1 RP Slot reserved for Fantasy RPs and the other for "Other Genres".

Dunno, just suggestions.

But still, if we are to have variety, we need more slots. We need to open up.

Creativity is limitless, but since spots can't be, we need a point of balance between both AE and non-AE. A reasonable point of balance.

Legendium -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 15:12:17)

@Arthur

Since this is the AE forums, AE RPs should be in abundance. Meaning there should be more AE stuff than non AE stuff. So keeping it to two and four is, IMO, a good idea.

Arthur -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 15:18:18)

Seriously, an increase by 1 for both should solve that.

Sorry but 6 is just not cutting it for me seeing as I am used to the old RPA where there were no limits. Now that was some free flow.

black knight 1234567 -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 15:38:37)

The problem Legendium is within the rules, we have very strict parameters as to how we can interact with what AE made.
Most of the time, the RP's we were making weren't even half related to AE tbh.

TJByrum -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 17:13:39)

@BK: I agree. Most RP's were "far away from the land of Lore" and such.

Also, I want to say that their is nothing wrong with the 6 max RP rule. For one thing, we can only be in 4 at a time (if that rule still applies), so it's not like we're going to be in all six at once. Secondly, think back to the old days when only, at max, 5 or 6 roleplays were active - and mostly only 3 or 4 were really active, if that!

Master K -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 18:17:00)

@^ But who's to say that we want to be in 3 or 4 out of the 6? It boils down to what people want out of an RP. I say that if we're gonna max have six hosted RP's, then we should have a variety, to suit whatever a person is looking for in an RP adventure.

TJByrum -> RE: The First RP (2/24/2013 19:00:13)

@MRBK: Well of course, I was just talking about the fact that we ca only have 6 was a good idea. The whole subject on what kind of RP's those can be, in my opinion, should be the 2 to 4 they got going.

Legendium -> RE: The First RP (2/25/2013 1:47:20)

@mrbk

Well, with six RPs, we can usually make a bit of everything. I.e. not everyone likes PvP RPs, but some do. Same goes for linear. Those who enjoy one or the other will spend their four on one or the other.

Well, six is probably the best since in the old RPA, there weren't enough people to populate all the RPs.

While that is true, and I think we certainly can do that, the main thing I want to see more often is references to the plots from the games. Let's say you're walking through a market and overhear a conversation about the DF Hero. Alternate reality RPs within the AE games also keep AE in the spotlight, but it's easier to know where to tread and where not to. Take my old "The Rise of Lord Frydae" RP for example.

TJByrum -> RE: The First RP (2/26/2013 8:57:38)

I got the idea of a prison-break RP. Group of prisoners who break out of their shackles, and a rise of slaves and stuff as their masters try to contain them. But it's got that "Spartacus" vibe to it. :(

But I also watched Troy recently, and made me wonder about the whole idea of a Greek-inspired RP.

Legendium -> RE: The First RP (2/26/2013 10:18:39)

@TJ

I love all Greek related things, especially Greek Mythology. If we can pull off both Troy and Zeus, I'll be happy.

TJByrum -> RE: The First RP (2/26/2013 11:02:48)

By that do you mean a roleplay set in Ancient Greece or one inspired by Ancient Greece? I was going to go with the latter.

Actually, I had planned on a roleplay with several factions:
-The Reman Empire: Based on the Roman Empire. Roman Empire was traced back to Romulus, he had a brother - Remus, who I suspect would have started the Reman Empire.
-Eastworth - Viking/Celtic region.
-A Greek region
-The Sultanate - Desert region similar to the Middle East and Egypt.

Legendium -> RE: The First RP (2/26/2013 11:35:01)

@TJ

You might want to change up the names a bit. Reman and Roman sound too similar, and I've heard Sultanate used for desert areas often.

TJByrum -> RE: The First RP (2/26/2013 19:31:58)

All to true... oh well, will think of something.

TJByrum -> RE: The First RP (3/2/2013 10:03:12)

What about a roleplay about a slave uprising?

The Empire is at war with the Korenians to the north. At the same time the Korenian Slaves to the south have revolted. The slaves must now bypass the Imperial forces until they make contact with the Korenians to the north to get help and bring down the Empire. However, Imperator Hectus has been dispatched to quell the rebellion. Players can be on either side.

I also thought of an Angel VS Demon roleplay. They're trying to find the Ultimatix, who has the power to end the world. Ironically, the Demons want to find him first and save him, while the Angels wish to help him destroy the world. If the world ends, the innocents rise to the heavens, but the Demons will no longer be able to reap the souls for eternity.
