Ok, I have noticed with the percent based skills that they do HUGE amounts of damage. (massacre, berzerker,double strike etc)

So, I suggest a revamp. Instead of doing MORE damage, how about it just ignore a percent of defenses on a scale?

Example:

Double Strike:

Ignores a scaling percentage of damage while boosting crit rate by 5%.

30%
32%
34%
36%
38%

Cost is the same. Same changes with Berzerker:

Berzerker:

Strike the enemy 3 times for massive damage, effectively ignoring a percent of defenses and boosting a scaled critical rate.

15% defenses ignored; 1% crit boost
21% defenses ignored
27% defenses ignored; 2% crit boost
33% defenses ignored
39% defenses ignored; 3% crit boost
44% defenses ignored
49% defenses ignored; 4% crit boost
54% defenses ignored
57% defenses ignored; 5% crit boost
60% defenses ignored

Same for massacre but im working on that one. Thoughts?


Formula:

Maxed berzerker with 24-29+35 damage.
Opponent has 27-33+2 defense


27-33+2
29-35
60%(29-35)
11-14

(24-29+35)-(11-14)
45-53 damage

Or leave %s as they are and % raise in damage is only applied to the weapon (so 50% more damage with +35 damage weapon means you get 52 + whatever Str gives you - enemy's defence = final damage). That way, you won't be able to abuse it as much; currently it's total damage * multiplier of the skill - defence = biiiiiiiig damage).

Defence ignore is bad way to go, it destroys tanks completely and can be abused even further with Strength or whatever skill uses.

I support any of the changes to the calculations currently, The extra damage ignores defense and STR debuffs completely, only the original strike damage is effected by defense and Str debuffs.


This is what makes them OP because they are so hard to counter.


Changing this won't necessarily have to be a damage nerf, it needs to however show a bigger decrease change in damage against shielded tanks, and lowered STR debuffs.
Not necessarily nerfing the power, but making them counterable.

I believe this is how it currently is.


Currently, 50% more damage would be thus...

24-29+35(.5)

24-29+35(+18)

24-29+53 Damage


With my version, a strength abuse can still get decent damage, just not enough for a 2 turn kill.

It will be ever changing, kinda how cheapshot works.


A merc with 24-29+35 damage and maxed Berzerker can ignore 60% defenses.

The opponent, say a tank tlm, has 27-33+3+10 defense


That is 59-64 damage versing 40-46 defense

So, the 60% affects the armor, making it 40-46(0.6)

The defense becomes 16-18


So, the attack becomes (59-64)-(16-18)
43-46 damage, versus the usual 50+

Nope, currently it multiplies total damage so [(Str + weapon's damage) * % boost from the skill] & my idea is to make it [Str + (weapon's damage * % boost from the skill)].

Let's use 22-27 +36 as an example and 50% boost from Bludgeon. With current system, we're looking at 87-95 (before defences). With "new system", it'd be 76-81 (before defences). There's drop of 11 damage minimum and it'll be more if you look at Massacre and Bludgeon.

I believe they changed it back in Gamma so %s were based only on weapon damage, not the whole strength+weapon. And unless I missed a release where they changed it back I still believe that's how it's done now.

Its believe its solely based on Weapon damage, not total damage. I just tested it in game.

Testing Berzerker with level 25 Mercenary:

Damage: 19-23+27 Energy Damage

Opponent: 20-24+10 Resistance

7-7-24 Damage output
38 Damage

27(70%)=19
(46-50)(+19)-(30-34)


(65-69)-(30-34)

35-39 Damage

So far, this shows that berzerker only works with weapon damage, not strength.



With my version:

19-23+27

20-24+10

(30-34)(34%)

11-12

19-22 resistance


(46-50)-(11-12)

35-38 Damage.


This gives one less damage output so far, but they are relatively the same.
