G4m3r -> Forum ranks (2/23/2013 17:29:22)

I suggest to make forum ranks like this:

- 0-49 posts-----------------Newbie
- 50-349 posts--------------Jr. Member
- 350-699 posts-------------Elite Member
- +700 posts------------High Elite Member

Something like that would be useful to know better who we are talking to.

Alternatives:

Newbie: 0-100 posts
Jr. Member: 100-1000 posts
Elite Member: 1000-5000 posts
High Elite Member: 5000+ posts

This practice might be proved pointless since having a high number of posts in no way means that a forumite is experienced or old. I've seen members get 3000+ posts in 4 months.

Besides, for all you know, half of those posts might be spam.

It was abandoned long before I showed up here and has been a perennial proposal, but it's never gained much traction or support simply because of the chaos it caused. It promoted spammy or otherwise trashy posts of which there was an abundance. It made things all the more difficult for forum staff.

Using the number of posts to determine a rank usually promotes spam and pointless comments. A system like this was tried a long time ago, and the forums was simply chaos. I guess if this is implemented though (highly unlikely), people should make a thread named:
quote:

Ranking Up!

This thread is for people looking to rank up in the forums! Simply post and spam anything you'd like here, and you will all soon be High Elite Members!

*No sarcasm intended.* If they implement this, they'd better put this in there too.

I'm not sure if this was ever implemented before, but the above posters are right. It'll bring too much chaos that even Drakath won't be able to handle.
