caser5 -> Are Tactical Mercenaries UP? (2/24/2013 14:54:19)

From the start of Omega I felt that TLMs were a tad UP, perhaps a subjective opinion based on my char. class, but with this new update I truly think they are under powered.
quote:

Each point of damage now requires 4.5 point of Strength, up from 4
Defense and Resistance now scale at the same rate (previously you would get more Resistance per Technology than Defense per Dexterity)

This new balance update now lowers everyone's strength and resistance, great right? Wrong, It lowers the damage of Gun, Primary attacks, not the damage of Skill attacks. So for TLMs (who lack any skill that effectively deals any good damage like plasma bolt, overload, smokescreen/malf, surgical strike and artillery strike aren't useful for TLMs partly because the need for Mineral armor reroute and field medic) this update is a nerf. This update both lowers TLM damage output and resistance,so TLMs have to raise Tech. and Strength to compensate further detracting from other stats, while other classes such as TMs don't have to adjust as much because their damage output isn't directly dependent on Strength. I saw this update as a buff for caster (other) classes (TM, BM, even BH and CH who have multi-shot and Smoke/Malf. Mercs were nerfed by this update but not as much as TLMs because Mercs have to capacity and skill tree freedom to do higher damage, b/c of berserker) and a nerf to TLMS.

No. They are tanks.

But tanks do not win, they don't hit enough but still get hit hard b/c of skill attacks and rage. Even if a tank wins it usually takes much longer than normal, reducing overall wins.

Yea Tactical mercs are tanks so they don't need a high damage output but it's always a nice thing to have, anyways tactical mercs are doing just fine i think.

You try being a TLM tank and see how boring it is to take 5-6 minutes to lose a 1v1.

Do u think it's your build that's the problem and as i've said in the suggestions bring back maul, as that was their #1 offensive skill but mostly people are going into the support builds for artillery strike or high tech for surgical strike, it could honestly be your build that's the problem, and btw i was agreeing with you, but also saying that TLM's are tanks

caser5 -> RE: Are Tactical Mercenaries UP? (2/24/2013 18:43:19)

TLM can be a tank like any other class, but it's neither effective or fun. Artillery strike and Surgical strike don't work in practice; they're both too predictable, someone sees level 10 surgical or artillery and take the mana you need away. Also they detract from what I see as TLM necessaries, at least level 6 field medic, max Mineral armor and level 7 reroute, which don't leave much room for Surgical or Artillery.

Well I have a thread on the suggestions to put Maul back on the TLM build if you want TLM to be more offensive please refer to it. Help me get Maul put back on Tactical Mercs. and i total agree with you, having mineral armor maxed and field medic at 6 and having reroute at 7 can be a bit taxing but people do manage to do it.

ReinVI -> RE: Are Tactical Mercenaries UP? (2/24/2013 20:28:03)

honestly? Tactical mercenaries have a place to be.. Juggernaught and 2v2 these are the places that in my opinion the class shines as they have mineral armor ( to protect better ) an unblockable poison ( in 2v2/ jugg use on one while hitting the other to weaken both opp at the same time ) then if you have the support then when your rage or something use artillery/ surgical Artillery can be quite deadly on a Tact for the simple fact that they have reroute which is a very good passive to get you energy back for these high damaging skills. I personally don't thing there UP even though I'm not actually using one and haven't since way back when they had smoke.
